Yaya, it was said, usually bought and re-sold condemned iron and electrical materials.</div><br /><p><a id="more" name="more"> </a> </p><br /><div style='clear: both;' class=''>Our correspondent gathered that Ikonne, 26, from the Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, had gone to Alaba market on the morning of Friday, October 10, where he first met Yaya.Ikonne had also reportedly invited the deceased to his house to buy his second-hand air conditioner.</div><br /><div style='clear: both;' class=''>When they got to the house, it was said that the two of them went inside a room to bring out the commodity, and they started haggling over the price.It was gathered that Yaya insisted on buying the air conditioner below N5, 000- a price which did not go down well with Ikonne.As the haggling continued, a fight was said to have ensued between the two which turned violent during which Ikonne allegedly hit Yaya with a plank in the belly.</div><br /><div style='clear: both;' class=''>During interrogation, the suspect explained that he had asked Yaya to either pay N5, 000 or assist him to return the commodity to where they brought it from but Yaya had refused. Ikonne added that he felt insulted by this attitude.</div><br /><blockquote style='clear: both;' class='tr_bq'><br /><p>He said, “I had not met the young man before. I met him that morning at the Alaba market, and asked him to buy one of my appliances: an air conditioner. He actually looked like a cart pusher. When we got home, we both went in to remove the product, and we brought it outside for negotiation.As we continued, he said he would pay less than N5, 000. I replied that he should assist me to return it to where we took it from, but he refused. In the process, we started fighting. He even asked me to pay him for helping me bring it out. I was mad, and I hit his belly with a plank.<br/><br />“When I realised he had fainted, I tied him with a rope and dragged him into a corner. I also fled the house.”</p><br /></blockquote><br /><div style='clear: both;' class='separator'>Our correspondent gathered that it was one of Ikonne’s co-tenants who noticed Yaya’s corpse where he was tied up.</div><br /><div style='clear: both;' class='separator'>He then raised the alarm, and reported the case to the Okokomaiko police station. She was found in Mubi where her abductors dumped her and she was later taken to Yola. It has been proved that the girl is four months pregnant, and she is psychological and physically traumatized,” he stated.</blockquote><br /><p>Abana, who pleaded with the police authorities to ensure that she is given adequate medical attention considering her plight, also called on federal government to step up efforts toward freeing the remaining girls and re-uniting them with their families. He revealed that the girl is suffering from trauma and there are signs of physical abuses on her body, saying he believed the insurgents subjected their captives to horrible physical and sexu’al abuses.</p><br /><blockquote class='tr_bq'>“Evidently, the girl was subjected to serious abuse. There are bruises on her body, and she is suffering from psychological trauma”, Abana stated.</blockquote><br /><p>Sources at the Police Clinic in Yola confirmed that Miss Ishaya was on admission at the clinic where she was receiving treatment but that she was taken to the police headquarters in the morning. However, a source said the girl might have been referred to a better hospital.</p><br /><p>The police public relations oficer (PPRO), Michael Haa, declined to speak on the matter, saying the military had taken charge of security in the state since the declaration of state of emergency by President Jonathan in 2013. Attempts to speak to the Army public relations officer, Captain Jafaru Nuhu, were not successful as his phone was switched off.</p><br /></div>

I reminded her also that she collected my other phones from me and brought them to Nigeria. In anger, I took the phone and smashed it on the ground.</p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>Before I knew it, she threw my things outside, saying I should leave her house. I told her to give me the N300,000 she borrowed from me to buy an air conditioner, if she wanted me to leave but she said she had no money with her and gave me her ATM card which she said had just</p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote><br /><p>N140,000. At a point, she slapped me and we started fighting. She held on to my manhood and started stretching it. Immediately, I took her three phones, ATM card and went outside to meet the gate man to see me off to any ATM machine, where I withdrew N100,000. I spent some days in Ghana before I decided to leave for Cote d’Ivoire, where unfortunately I was arrested. I never wanted to kill her. I have never fought in my life, let alone kill somebody. I did not also steal her jewellery and N8 million as claimed by the Police. According to Okereke, the insurgency was created by the politicians to intimidate President Goodluck Jonathan from seeking a second term in office.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The politician, who is also the Director-General of Taskforce on Illegal Importation of Small Arms and Light Weapons, also said that the abduction of the over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State was masterminded by the politicians to discredit Jonathan’s administration, so that he can lose support locally and internationally in his re-election bid.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Okereke, who insisted that the activities of the sect was the handiwork of “desperate politicians scheming for power in the 2015 general elections”,recalled that Borno State Government had earlier been advised by the West African Examination Council, against taking exams because of the tensed insecurity in the area.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He also decried the pressure being mounted on President Goodluck Jonathan to visit Chibok community in Borno State, where Boko Haram terrorists abducted the girls, saying such was unnecessary.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>A visually impaired middle-aged man, identified as Kingsley Anyanwu is under probe by the Lagos State Police Command after he was alleged to have defiled a 12-year-old girl (names withheld).</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The incident occurred at the residence of the suspect, 32, Mosalasi Street, Maza-Maza bus stop on Friday, June 20, when Kingsley Anyanwu s*xually abused the victim by forcefully having canal knowledge of her inside his bedroom, thereby inflicting serious bruises on the victim’s private part,Vanguard reports.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>It was learnt that the victim started residing with the family early January this year in a three-bedroom apartment after she was introduced to Kingsley’s sister, Maurine, a staff of one of the new generation banks located at Oba Akran.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to reports, the victim was until the unfortunate incident a housemaid to Kingsley Anyanwu’s old mother.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Trouble, however, started after Kingsley’s wife went to work. The suspect allegedly asked her to come to his bedroom, supposedly to help him read out a message on his phone.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Immediately I entered his room, he grabbed me, forcefully removed my pants and defiled me,” the victim said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Vanguard gathered that the victim escaped from the house when the suspect allegedly attempted to r*pe her the second time.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>She later ran to a nearby church where she stayed till the next day. Confused and afraid to go back home, she sat by the roadside when the landlord of the house where she was sexually abused saw her and took her back home.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>After receiving the beating of her life for running out of the house, the suspect and his sister allegedly returned her to her aunt residing in Ikeja on the pretext that she was wasting food.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Victim aunt’s account<br/><br /><br/><br />“I received a call from Mrs. Maurine on Saturday that they were bringing back my niece because she was wasting food and that she ran out of the house.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“On Sunday, Mrs. Maurine brought her home. When she left, I questioned my niece, it was then she opened up that Uncle Kingsley sexually abused her.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Immediately I took her to Adeniyi Jones, Primary Healthcare Centre. After medical examination the medical officer confirmed that she was defiled. The report confirmed bruises I saw in her private part. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>The 21-year-old Tolani Ajayi, who killed his father, Charles Ajayi (SAN) last week has disclosed his reason for killing him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Tolani, a 300-level student of History and International Relations, Redeemer’s University, Redemption Camp, along Lagos/Ibadan expressway, Ogun State, who is now being detained at Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta said he killed his father because he provoked him. He however expressed regret, asking his mother to forgive him. He said he had also asked God for forgiveness.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“I have sent some people to talk to her that I am sorry. I have talked to my sister. My mother is still grieving, I want to give her time. It may be spiritual, so I have asked God for forgiveness,” Tolani said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>It was learnt that the 21-year-old was into drugs as he had been caught twice by his school authorities. A panel was said to have also been set up to interrogate him on drug-related matters before he committed the murder, according to Vanguard.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Tolani confessed to being into drugs, saying: “I tried those drugs myself. I might have heard it from my friends but I tried them myself.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He said he used a kitchen knife and a cutlass to attack his father during an argument between them, but denied being under the influence of the drugs then, as the action was not premeditated.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The incident happened around 1 a.m. when the church community would have been sleeping. Good or bad, rotten and spoilt, but that is my country. I am so proud of my fatherland. May peace reign again in our great nation, Nigeria. Every sentimental or selfish reason shall go in vain. The government is not doing anything. It is one killing over another. Besides, while we wait for the return of our Chibokgirls, many other girls are still being kidnapped.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It was the security challenge in the North East, the Chibok girls that made us rally together, yet we are faced with additional security challenges<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Though our membership may dwindle, we stand resolute in our demand. Our advocacy stands, it continues, we’re ambassadors of the cause. We shall not relent until our girls are back and alive!<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We’re all adults and we’re here on our own volition. We are not going to retreat or surrender. We won’t sit back like other Nigerians.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But the National Orientation Agency explained that the Federal Government will make the necessary sacrifices to rescue the kidnapped girls.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The NOA urged Nigerians not to “dance to the tune” of the terrorists but to remain united and collaborate with all agencies of government to stamp out terrorism.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We should raise our flag and our hearts in patriotic zeal to affirm that as a people we will not dance to the tune of our enemies. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>As security situation in the country worsens, Nigerians should be more security conscious and vigilant.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Vicitms of the recent bombing in Abuja, as well as eyewitnesses recount their ordeal and shock at the bombing of the city’s busiest shopping mall, EMAB Plaza, located close to Banex Plaza in the Federal Capital Territory.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to a victim of the explosion, the bomber faked being drunk as a strategy to carry out his evil act.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Donald Chikason who is now receiving treatment at the Maitama General Hospital, explained that the bomber planted the bomb in his car before approaching the gate.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Chikason, a staff of Skye Bank opposite the plaza said “I went out to get corn for myself, so on my way coming out, I saw an Hausa man, he wanted to get into the plaza, but the security man stopped him and asked the bomber to follow the procedure by going through the right gate.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The man started arguing, behaving as if he was drunk. At this point, the security men then asked him to park the car outside the plaza. So I decided to leave the place. Immediately I turned towards my direction, I heard an explosion and the next thing, I saw myself in the hospital,” the victim told Thisday.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A taxi driver, who identified himself as Malachy Odo, said he was caught up in the midst of the ravaging fire after the bomb exploded at the car park.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“I had arrived at the plaza in my cab minutes earlier. After the last passenger alighted from the cab, I was reversing when I heard the explosion. My car went up in flames, and I struggled to pass through the window and in the process my left hand caught fire. As I was running for my dear life, broken glasses pierced my feet. I was later rushed by rescuers to Maitama General Hospital,” Odo told Vanguard.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Sulieman Lukman Ademola also gave account of what happened at the scene: “I saw the car, the security men were arguing with the driver who was saying ‘I want to follow here’, but they told him not to follow there. The man then bent down and put his head inside the car, and the next thing was an explosion that threw me down and I became unconscious. The explosion also burnt my back. When I regained consciousness and looked around, I saw some people’s heads and legs. It was then I started begging people to take me to the hospital.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>21 People had earlier been confirmed dead from the blast, but the death toll has now increased to 22 as another victim, a Senegalese, died on Wednesday night.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Public Relations Officer, National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Tayo Haastrup confirmed the death of the Senegalese to journalists.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to Haastrup, the hospital tried contacting the Senegalese Embassy, while the victim, a male, was receiving treatment but could not get through; he later died as a result of the severe burns he sustained from the bomb explosion.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

While Nigeria is being celebrated as a country with a growing economy, the reality on ground is that this has not translated to a meaningful lifestyle for the Nigerian masses. Majority of our people still live in abject poverty.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The recent recruitment exercise carried out by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) was a pointer to the fact that Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder. We plead with our politicians to create enabling environment for our youths to actualise their dreams of becoming responsible adults in the years to come,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Speaking further, the cleric described the abduction of over 200 Chibok school girls as detestable and called on the Federal Government to ensure their release.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>On the 2015 elections, Bishop Fape urged politicians not to see the elections as a do-or-die affair, adding that the nation needs credible men and women to lead the people aright.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>The Delta State government has banned the use of caravans and containers for trading in the state and will soon start arresting and prosecuting welders who construct caravans and containers, Frank Omare has said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Omare, the state Commissioner for Environment said this during a press conference held at the Government House Annex, Warri.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We will apprehend and prosecute welders who engage in welding caravans for people. That is one way we can eliminate the use of caravans for trading in Delta,” he said, describing caravans as `satanic objects’.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The commissioner said the ongoing demolition in Warri-South, Uvwie and Udu local government areas would continue until the committee achieves its mandate, adding that the ongoing clean-up exercise in Warri and its environs was not meant to victimise anyone.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Omare, who is also the chairman, Special Environmental Task Force in the state, said Saturday (May 17) has been set aside as compulsory environmental sanitation day in the three local government areas, adding that all the residents of the areas would be involved in the exercise.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Omare said the sanitation team would use the opportunity to clear some of the demolished illegal structures and carry out more demolition.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“It will involve everybody and six mobile courts will be on ground to prosecute offenders.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The exercise will commence at 7 a.m. and terminate at noon in the three local government areas,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>It will be recalled that in April, the government constituted a 25-man special sanitation team headed by the deputy governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, to rid the state of illegal structures.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A 14-man team, headed by Omare, was constituted following the expiration of the 10-day ultimatum given to the committee to complete its work.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The commissioner said the new task force would embark on its duty without fear or favour.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We are all affected by the exercise. As a government, we have the responsibility of ensuring that environmental laws are put in place,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We have done a lot but the job is still on; we are doing some level of beautification by planting trees and flowers in some areas,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Omare said that 1,600 Environmental Marshals would be employed soon to ensure compliance with environmental law and ensure sustainability.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>
