Kashim Shettima.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Kaumi Damboa, said the visit was aimed at seeking the assistance of the royal father towards ending the attacks.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Damboa said the recent attack had completely destroyed public and private buildings in the town.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He said the attackers stormed the town around 6p.m. when Muslim faithful were preparing to break their fast.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Damboa lamented that the attack took several hours due to absence of security agents in the town.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Boko Haram attacks have become re-occurring in our town on daily basis. We had desertion in ECOMOG; in the Nigerian Civil war and now it will continue to be there”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Also, acts of indiscipline will continue to be there but when they are caught, they are investigated and when they are found questionable they will face the Court-Martial”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Like I said, in a few months time, the war will be over. It cannot be determined in terms of concrete date”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On allegations that the army was underperforming in the war on terror, he said, “The Nigerian Army is performing. I know the expectations of the Nigerian citizens but the expectation is rather too much in haste.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />We need some time; we need patience and you must know we are fighting terrorism. We are not fighting a conventional war. Nigerian Army is a conventional and regular army”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The terrorist is someone you don’t know. It may be someone who sold food or fruit to you in the morning and by the afternoon he is the terrorist. We are having all that inter-play in the battle front in the North-East. Mr. Sunday, however, sent the account details of the second suspect, August Johnson (47), a teacher residing at Ohaozara in Ebonyi, to the victims’ parents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The police credited the account with N150,000 and pencilled down the account in the bank.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><b><i>NigerianEYE</i> </b> gathered that the suspects were nabbed when they attempted to withdraw the money from the account. I pray that the almighty Allah will bring these attacks to an end’’, he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Garbai advised the people to remain calm and law abiding.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He promised to channel the community’s request for increased military presence to Gov. Kashim Shettima.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Kaumi Damboa, said the visit was aimed at seeking the assistance of the royal father towards ending the attacks.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Damboa said the recent attack had completely destroyed public and private buildings in the town.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the attackers stormed the town around 6p.m. when Muslim faithful were preparing to break their fast.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Damboa lamented that the attack took several hours due to absence of security agents in the town.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Boko Haram attacks have become re-occurring in our town on daily basis. Our people now live in perpetual fear because of the attacks’’, he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Damboa appealed to the Shehu to use his influence to ensure the deployment of troops to the area to prevent future attacks by the insurgents. <script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>Two members of a six-man shop-looting gang terrorising Anambra and Ebonyi states have been arrested by the police surveillance team attached to Fegge Police Station, Onitsha, Anambra state.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The two suspects whose names were withheld by the investigating police officers (IPOs) to avoid jeopardizing the arrest of other gang members who were not yet aware of the arrest of two of their accomplice, according to sources, were arrested on different dates, based on a tip-off.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to the source, the surveillance team stumbled into 22 bags of 50 kilogrammes of foreign rice in a hideout at Onitsha and on enquiry, some of the neighbourhood informed them that they saw some men keeping the goods.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The police team, it was learnt, laid an ambush and as soon as one of the suspects sneaked into the hideout to carry some of the bags, probably for sale, they apprehended him and during interrogations, he disclosed the identities of the six-man gang, including their ring leader who was arrested the next day. It was further gathered that the police are still trailing four other members of the syndicate, even as they were not yet aware that two of their members are already in the police custody.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A reliable police source confirmed that the two suspects have made confessional statements as to how they had broken into and looted many shops, with the latest belonging to one Emmanuel Okonkwo at Obosi community near Onitsha which they allegedly broken into at about 3 a.m. and carted away the bags of rice through a dwarf fence.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Divisional Police Officer at Fegge, Rabiu Garba who simply confirmed the arrest, said he had sent signal about the case to police headquarters, Awka, while investigations are on going.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The state Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka, DSP, told newsmen on phone as a the time of filing this report that he was yet to receive such a signal to that effect, adding that he would make some contacts and get back to newsmen.
