We will certainly challenge the result in court.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr. Umana said immediately accreditation ended, armed thugs in police uniforms moved around in buses, pouncing on electoral officials and carting away ballot boxes and other materials.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the buses used by the thugs were the same ones acquired by Mr. Akpabio’s administration few weeks to the elections.<br/><br /><br/><br />The APC candidate said his party has evidence – video recordings and photographs – to buttress his claims. He alleged that elections only held in Governor Akpabio’s polling unit to put up a show for television cameras.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr. Umana alleged he could not vote because the presiding officer at his polling unit said election materials were forcefully taken away by armed thugs led by an aide of the governor.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The APC candidate said out of a total 1,571 ballot papers assigned for the three polling units in his area, only 450 were recovered by security operatives, with most of the materials already thumb-printed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr. Umana said INEC officials had to issue incident forms to party agents in the unit to confirm that election did not hold.<br/><br /><br/><br />He said the electoral officer in the local government blamed the loss of the materials on security lapses.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said over 50 political leaders from various polling units in the state, including the former state governor, Victor Attah, and one-time Minister of Petroleum Resources, Don Etiebet, also called to complain about hijacking of election materials by armed thugs.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The situation was the same in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Etinan, Oruk Anam, Mkpat Enin, Ini and Eket Local Governments,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br />In Etinan local government, Mr. Umana said the PDP state chairman, Paul Ekpo, was caught in a convoy of vehicles with election materials, most of which were already thumb-printed result sheets, with 258 votes allocated to PDP and one vote to APC.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The former representative for Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Effiong Bob, who phoned in to the programme, claimed that the election in Akwa Ibom was free and fair.<br/><br /><br/><br />'<br/><br /><br/><br />Mr. Bob said the exercise held without hitches in all parts of the state.<br/><br /><br/><br />He said he did not hear reports of stolen election materials throughout the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

The then 16-year-old victim, known by the pseudonym Liz, was reportedly attacked, beaten and then raped by six men as she returned from her grandfather’s funeral in western Kenya in June 2013.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The gang dumped her, bleeding and unconscious, in a deep sewage ditch.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She suffered a broken back, caused either by the beating or by being hurled down into the pit, as well as serious internal injuries from the rape.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The fact that Liz’s case took so long to reach this point — and still faced serious obstacles despite strong national and global support — illustrates the injustices that are still suffered by survivors,” Brown added.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“While Kenya boasts one of the most progressive legal and policy frameworks for addressing sexual violence, Liz’s case and countless others have revealed significant failures of local authorities to adequately address sexual violence.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />- Scale of rape ‘astounding’ -<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The case made global headlines after it emerged that three of the alleged rapists whom Liz identified were ordered by police to cut grass around the police station as punishment. Other suspects are on the run, with the public prosecutor ordering they be “apprehended and brought to justice without further delay”, although it has been a more than a year since arrest warrants were issued.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Sentencing had been set for last Friday but was delayed after one of the men skipped bail and failed to turn up, but police arrested him over the weekend. Rape is a serious problem in Kenya but is seldom taken seriously by the police, rights groups say. “The sheer scale of sexual violence in schools, communities and its general acceptability in society is astounding,” Brown added.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />At the time, then police chief David Kimaiyo cast doubt on Liz’s testimony, saying the time between her screams for help and villagers coming to her rescue was “too short for six assailants to have gang raped. But now they are basing on the number of registered voters. Number of registered voters do not cast the vote; it is the number of PVC collected that does,” he explained.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He, however, said he was ready to participate in the supplementary election and in fact went ahead to claim victory in the election.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“You can only change the date of a burial but you cannot change the burial. From the results available, the fact speaks for itself, we have won this election despite all the irregularities,” Mr. Okorocha with a contented smile.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Beaming with confidence, Mr. Okorocha said he was in fact ready for the total re-run of the election if INEC deemed it necessary and guaranteed that it would be conducted fairly. He insisted that his contender cannot defeat him in a free and fair election.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Let me say that there is no basis for comparison when I’m told that I’m in contest with the PDP candidate and he scored some votes it is not true. I think I’m in contest with more unseen elements than the candidate himself. If this election is conducted in the way it should be conducted in a free and fair manner, my opponent would have up to 100,000 votes. Never. Not in Imo State; not at all,” he boasted.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr. Okorocha said he would have won the election with a landslide if his contender, abetted by men in security uniform, had not perpetrated widespread electoral fraud.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“If you look at what has happened in his areas of jurisdiction and his local government, Mbaise local government, Ahiazu, Ezinnite, Aboh Mbaise, where he gave himself almost 80,000 votes. Can you imagine in Aboh Mbaise, you have 51,000 voters when the actual PVC collected is about 60,000 and in Mbaitoli where you have over 100,000 PVC collected the total votes there is about 30,000 so that tells you the manipulation. What we saw in those areas was simply the militarisation of the entire process – snatching of ballot boxes and violence and what have you.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But because of these manipulations and writing of results and taking result sheets and going to somebody’s house – escorted by security agencies- to write the result and come in the private car to INEC headquarters, that is why many people think there is a contest.
