France in particular has been a victim of it.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“When more than 200 young girls are being held in barbaric conditions with the prospect of being sold into slavery, there are no questions to be asked, only actions to be taken,” Hollande added.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The action plan will involve co-ordination of surveillance efforts aimed at finding the girls, the sharing of intelligence and joint efforts to secure the porous borders in the region, according to the summit’s conclusions.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>In the longer term, the countries agreed to forge a regional counter-terrorism strategy under the auspices of the existing but barely active Lake Chad Basin Commission, with technical expertise and training support from Britain, France, the European Union and the United States.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The countries also agreed to push for UN sanctions against the leaders of Boko Haram and another Nigerian Islamist group, Ansaru.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Britain will host a follow-up meeting on implementation of the action plan next month.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Nigeria’s Jonathan, who has been criticised for what many see as a lacklustre response to the girls’ abduction, said he was committed to returning them to their distraught families.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We are totally committed to finding the girls, wherever they are,” Jonathan said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We’ve been scanning these areas with surveillance aircraft,” he added, saying Nigeria had deployed 20,000 troops to find the girls.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Boko Haram is no longer a local terror group.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“From 2009 to today it has changed and can be described as al-Qaeda in western and central Africa.”<br/><br /><br/><br />US drones and surveillance aircraft are among resources already at Nigeria’s disposal.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Military experts from Britain, France and the US are advising Nigeria on its counter-terrorism strategy, but the Western powers have ruled out deploying combat forces to help locate the missing girls. But efforts on that front have been hampered by the frosty state of relations with Cameroon, with which Nigeria has a long-running territorial dispute.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan played down the extent of the differences but admitted that there was a need for a joint force that could engage in pursuit of militants across national borders.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />British Foreign Secretary William Hague told reporters just before the summit that the countries in the region had to forge a “strategy to defeat Boko Haram more broadly” as well as resolving the case of the missing girls.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“This is one sickening and terrible incident but they continue almost every day to commit terrorist acts and atrocities,” Hague said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There are many borders here and they are porous. This is very relevant to finding the schoolgirls. Adeniyi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Friday convicted and sentenced one Ebiloma Abdullahi to 12 years imprisonment for forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A statement by the spokesperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) Wilson Uwujaren, said the convict was arraigned in November 2009 on a 7-count charge of impersonation, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Mr. Abdullahi, who paraded himself as a student of Federal University of Technology, Minna, was said to have assumed the position of the National President of the National Association of Nigeria Student, NANS, and in such capacity paid courtesy visits to Isa Yuguda, governor of Bauchi State; Alhaji Sani Lulu, former Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association, NFA; from whom he obtained the sum of N500,000 under the pretense that the money would be used to mobilize Nigeria students to support the Super Eagles.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Justice Adeniyi found the accused guilty on count one and seven for forgery and obtaining money by false pretense and consequently sentenced him to two years on count one and 10 years imprisonment on count seven without an option of fine.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The sentences are to run concurrently. I do not think that is the right move. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has denied ever referring to President Goodluck Jonathan as evil, despite the perceived political ‘war’ between them.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Kwankwaso, who stated this in an interview with Leadership, said it would be unfair for him to call a sitting president evil.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He said, “There was never a time I referred to Mr. President or anybody wearing a hat as evil. What I actually said was that President Jonathan has tightened the umbrella until he made a hat that only fits him and few others”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Shedding more light on the statement credited to him, Governor Kwankwaso noted that the umbrella has been a symbol of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, since it was established in 1998 and had accommodated reputable politicians from all parts of the country, until Jonathan squeezed it into a hat for himself.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“My good friends, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Odili as well as other Nigerians from the South-South wear hats and are also good people”, Kwankwaso asserted.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Kano governor further decried media reports that quoted him as referring to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim and Vice President, Namadi Sambo as vultures, saying they are his good friends.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The vultures I was referring to are the three governors who were present at the President’s Kano visit and Godswill Akpabio is one of them. He wants to be anointed presidential candidate if Jonathan fails to get the ticket, while between the remaining two, one would be made the vice president and other, secretary to the federation”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He stated that, “Mr. President has deliberately misused the party machinery to serve his own private sentiments and favour those he feels are his kinsmen”.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>
