Our electoral processes were not very good or credible when we came into office, but as I promised, we have been working very hard to change things and ensure that our elections are more credible, that every legitimate vote counts and that the results are acceptable to the electorate.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I promise you that the Osun governorship elections will be very free, fair and credible.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Responding to other concerns raised by the Nigerian professionals, the President said that the Federal Government would continue to give the highest possible priority to policies and programmes that would lead to the creation of enough jobs for the Nigerian youth.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Job creation is a challenge to every government in the world. And this is in spite of assistance from a coalition of UK, US and other forces.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The little or no dividend arising from the rescue efforts is giving way to a groundswell of apprehension over whether or not the innocent girls would ever be re-united with their families. It is also generating a battery of questions regarding the government and military’s approach to combatting the insurgency and rescuing the girls.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A screengrab taken on May 12, 2014, from a video of Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram obtained by AFP shows girls, wearing the full-length hijab and praying in an undisclosed rural location. Boko Haram released a new video on claiming to show the missing Nigerian schoolgirls, alleging they had converted to Islam and would not be released until all militant prisoners were freed. A total of 276 girls were abducted on April 14 from the northeastern town of Chibok, in Borno state, which has a sizeable Christian community. Some 223 are still missing.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Since the school girls were abducted on April 14, efforts to rescue them have been uncoordinated. Comments from government officials are not only discordant but also contradictory. While a section of the government initially believed that the abduction was a ruse, another section believed it was real. To get the insurgents to lay down their arms, a minister would say that the government has an offer of amnesty; he would be disowned the following day by a presidential aide.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />High-level military operational strategies are publicised before a foot is lifted to implement them. And battle-winning intelligence obtained against the sect appeared to be ignored. For instance, Senator Ahmed Zanna (Borno North, PDP), doubted, last month, if the girls would ever be rescued. According to him, the military was not acting on vital intelligence.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He told the Senate, during a sitting: “I have been constantly in touch with the security agencies, telling them the developments, the movement of the girls from one place to the other and then the splitting of the girls and eventually the marriage of these girls by the insurgents. What bothered me the most is that whenever I informed the military where these girls were, after two to three days, they were moved from that place to another; still, I would go back and inform them on new developments.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mentioning the various locations the abducted girls had been camped like Sambisa forest, Kolofata in Camroon, Mate and Mungonu, Chikungudua and islands on Lake Chad, the senator said: “I informed the security agents about the developments. And from that place, they (insurgents) can just go to either Chad or Cameroon because it is very open; there are no weeds in the lake and so they can go to anywhere. They have snatched all the boats around that area including the one for NNPC and so they are free to go anywhere without being chased by anybody.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There are about 40 islands there and they have ejected most of the occupants of the islands and occupied the islands. What is most disturbing is that hitherto, Sambisa was their base and it was well known to the military and the Nigerian security services. After the abduction of those girls, they started moving out of Sambisa and even before then, I had been discussing with the military and they said they were going to attack that place… I don’t know what delayed them.But eventually when they launched the attack, all the insurgents had already gone out of the place.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“These are the facts. So unless there is seriousness on the part of our military, we have no hope of getting those girls. Even if we are going to get them, we are going to get them in trickles, maybe getting two, three, four and five.They are now scattered, so it is not possible for us to get 50, 60,100 in one particular position.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><b>Advertised attack on Sambisa</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On May 2, 17 days after the abduction, a major military operation being mobilised to attack Sambisa forest was reported. According to reports, four battalions comprising all formations of the Army, including those from Signals Corps, Armoured Corps, Ordinance Corps, Intelligence Corps, Infantry Corps, Artillery Corps, Military Police Corps and Medical Corps had been mobilised.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The battalions were said to have been positioned in the North, South, East and West of the Sambisa forest so that when the troops moved in from all angles, there would be no escape route for the terrorists. Since the forest shares borders with towns in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno and Cameroon, the different battalions would each launch their offensive from these locations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Even before the abduction, there were reports that the military planned to comb the Sambisa forest to smoke out the insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Given the way the military’s planned attack on Sambisa forest was reported, the insurgents would have been fools to be caught off guard.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />This is arguably the first time a strategy for a major military offensive against a deadly enemy would be so exposed. The development adds flesh to President Goodluck Jonathan’s comments that the government had been infiltrated by members of Boko Haram, their sponsors or supporters.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><b>Diversionary intelligence</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, those close to the military said they take time to scrutinise every information before acting to ensure that the intellignece was not meant to lure them into an enemy’s trap or ambush.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Indeed, one of such purported intelligence, on May 6, led to the killing of about 300 people in Gamborou Ngala town, Borno State. Every opportunity you have is one that you must miss some day. He is 87, he should be a father to all and he should champion the course of nation-building and not sectional interest, if for nothing else, at least for his age.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“From the moral point of view, God gives some consideration to the youngest and the eldest. Let us continue to urge him in a polite manner to see Nigeria beyond his walking stick.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The hat that he puts on should provide shield not only to his grey hairs, but to the young hairs of other Nigerians, regardless of where they come from.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Age should always go with wisdom of tolerance, wisdom of truth and defence of it, wisdom of togetherness and national unity,” Shettima said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He told the Niger Deltans that he regards them as Borno people, contrary to what they named their group.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He added: “I will prefer to call you the Forum of Borno People from the Niger Delta. Some of you were born here in Borno State; some of you probably had parents or grandparents born in Borno.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Most of you have something doing in whatever respect whether as businessmen, traders or whatever it is you are doing and by that, you are contributing to the economy of Borno State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The allocations given to Borno from the Federation Account is given based on our population amongst other indices being considered, and all of you here, regardless of where you consider your roots, make up the population of Borno State and this means you are stakeholders in what we get from the Federation Account, you are fully entitled to all public services and privileges that we provide as a government.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“When Boko Haram members, in their evil ways, planted explosives around the post office in January, this year, the explosives did not choose victims based on their backgrounds and what part of the country they came from, the explosives simply targeted residents of Maiduguri who happened to be on the spot. This is the same of other wicked attacks in any part of Borno State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“So, to me and indeed to every reasonable person here, you are part and parcel of Borno State, you are sons and daughters of this state with roots from the Niger Delta.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“My ancestral background is the Nganzai Local Government Area in Northern Borno, but I have adopted the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council as my official place of origin. We are all one people in this country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Believe me, I have never regarded Honourable Christopher Godwin Akaba as different from anyone that works with me on the basis of ethno-religious background and this was why immediately he was appointed as Special Assistant, I brought him directly under my office; I have seen his potential, his sincerity, zeal and commitment to progressive governance and this is what matters to me as a governor”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Shettima said one of the best ways any society can grow fast is to open its doors to accommodate any person that lawfully lives within it regardless of his background.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the United States and the Dubai Kingdom in the U.A.E have become great mainly because they accommodate any good citizen across the world who desires to live and work there without being unlawful.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The governor called on members of the group to aspire for anything in Borno and be free to enjoy rights and request for privileges as others would do.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Secretary General of the forum, Prince Stephen U.A. Ebri, who read a prepared text, faulted Clark’s agitation for full emergency in the three states.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said members of the group used to feel ashamed when some elders from the Niger Delta speak ignorantly on issues.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There is one issue that is seriously troubling the mind of every one of us here and that is how some of our elders from the Niger Delta that are completely ignorant of the true situation in Borno State are attacking this government that is doing everything within its powers to address the problem.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Sir, we were in Maiduguri when you were sworn in on May 29, 2011. In case our elders in the Niger Delta do not know, there are Niger Delta people living in Borno. We are from the Niger Delta, but our difference is that we are well informed about the true situation and they are ignorant, they don’t know, they don’t want to know and we don’t think they will ever know.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are not fools or sycophants; we are responsible people that will call a spade a spade. When you were sworn in, Maiduguri was in disarray. People were killed daily; bombs were every where; all of us were living in perpetual fears, young boys were threatening everyone with guns, calling phone numbers to threaten people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But today, Your Excellency, you have been able to lead the people of Maiduguri to rise against threats and defend themselves. Today, Maiduguri is an opposite of what it was when you came in.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Rather than the fear and citizens’ imprisonment you met on May 29 2011, today there is peace, security and freedom in Maiduguri. It was you that led us to the peace through the intervention of God.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The group faulted the agitation for full emergency by Clark in the three states.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Secretary-General of the forum added: “We are worried so much by some of the utterances of our Niger Delta brothers like Asari Dokubo and elders like Chief Edwin Clark. Only yesterday, we read an advert by Chief Edwin Clark in the newspapers calling for the removal of governors, saying all manner of things that are out of absolute and annoying ignorance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Chief Clark said the Borno State Government is not cooperating with the Federal Government. How can a government that is using resources to finance security agencies be accused of being uncooperative when we all know that it is the Federal Government that is supposed to fund the security?<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are angry and tired with these utterances that are making us very uncomfortable in a state that the people have been treating us with love and respect. This is a state government that went as far as giving a political appointment to a son of the Niger Delta who works directly with the governor.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“This is a government that appointed an Igbo man as a cabinet member and that Igbo man is in charge of community relations, that Igbo man has been with Your Excellency for many years.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Sir, anytime people from Niger Delta speak on Borno out of ignorance, we feel very ashamed because all that they say are not the truth of the ground realities in Borno State and some people assume that we from the Niger Delta share the hate views of some of these people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We have had enough of them. They are trying to mislead Nigerians and they are making us unhappy in a place we have been happy for many years. In the light of the foregoing, we, the great people of the Niger Delta in Borno State, hereby, disassociate ourselves from all utterances made against the government and people of Borno State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are, however, committed to any meaningful goal of the Niger Delta people which does not compromise the unity, peace and progress of the entity called Nigeria. The people of Niger Delta are reasonable, we are tolerant, we fight but we fight good courses.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Anybody calling for the military is talking out of ignorance of the laws of this country. If anyone has a military man he wants to make Governor of Borno State, he shouldn’t come through the backdoor. When they reach Bama Local government around Firgi area in Borno State, some Boko Haram members with heavy weapons abducted them and they were taken to Boko haram camp in Sambisa Games Reserve.</p><br /><p>Immediately after their arrival they slew the five men with knife in her presence. She was there in their camp for 12 days when they slew more than 50 people in her presence. Whenever they bring a hostage, they check their identity card and differentiate them base on their belief, if your Christian they killed you, if the victim happened to be Muslim they recruit them. Those who refused they slew them.</p><br /><div style='clear: both; text-align: center;' class='separator'> </div><br /><p>It was one faithful day on 26th may 2013 that she escaped when the insurgent distance themselves from them to service their weapons and equally trained the new recruit on how to handled guns. She was pondered on how to run when she saw how females were killed.</p><br /><p>They told her to get ready for conversion the following morning, and fortunately God took control of the event and one young man among the captive took courage and jump into one of their cars and started it. Eventually she and other six young men entered the car and they drow off. Unfortunately the Boko Haram followed them and succeeded in killing four but she and the driver escaped. Luckily they did not sexually abuse her as she was groomed to marry the insurgent leaders’ junior brother. However, she suffered beating even at point of death to convert to Islam and forced to wear their ‘hijab’ as they go from one hiding came to another atop the mountain hills where they are based.</p><br /><p>She even followed them to the attack on Gwna police station conveying the bullets they used during the attack. Her escaped gave her a new life of hope but never believed it was really true until she was taken out of Borno State.</p><br /><p>Her parents’ home and the whole village were attacked after her escape, burning all the houses and killing two people in revenge. They took his wife out and put a gun to her head, but when they heard another strange event outside the compound, the insurgents came back again and asked the ladies including her to come out. There they captured herself, her sister & her brother’s wife and took them away as captives. They were taken to the camp on the mountain top in Ghwa’a village where the leader of the Boko Haram stayed.</p><br /><p>She who is a dedicated Christian was asked to denounced Christ and accept Islam or else she would be slaughtered. Out of fear she agreed and they ceremonially cited Quran verses, gave her a veil (Himar) and named her Maryam.</p><br /><p>After converting her she was taken to (Emir) leader of the camp who was called Ibrahim Tada Nglayire and she was married one of the insurgents called Abdul, where she was sexually abused. After that, he asked her to perform an exercise of taking water from a kettle to bath with it as sign of cleansing from the sex they had. Which he called WAKAN JANABA.</p><br /><p>The insurgents gets their money from External sources, she always heard them mentioning Arab countries etc. Some among their local sponsors whom they mention were some District Heads in Borno State and a member of the State House of Assembly . They always thanked them for supporting with money and protection. Another one of the insurgents dragged her and tied another rope behind her and pulling her like animal. She was then taken to the mountains travelling throughout the night where they went to a village in the hill they call Hraza. It was too gloomy because there were so many branches within the caves. She quickly agreed to convert to Muslim with a knife of her throat, on 19 November, 2013. They cited Quranic verse which she repeats after them. She was given KALMAN SHAHADA. She saw a man called MALLAM where they were staying. He doesn’t come out in a day time, neither does he follow them for operations, but he gives orders and instruction as final authority. He doesn’t open his face. He is aways in a veil like Arab man, in all white clothes. The second in command was called Ibrahim Tadagleke and then mallam Audu and Mallam Saidu, whom were the operational commanders.<br/><br />On the 21 November, 2013, the overall MALLAM, who was in charge of giving orders came out and went round the camp around 5:00pm – 6:00pm. He was accompanied by Ibrahim who they called Emir followed by operational commanders and then over 80 armed insurgents were behind him. Some among their sponsors where late Mohammed Gadafi before he died. People from Chad were used to import the weapons, on Carmel and herdsmen from Niger.<br/><br />Their main funds comes from Afghanistan and Iraq. They always thanked the Arab countries. Most of the people that sponsored them locally were disguised. We’ve made a specific offer to our UK and US allies … that we are ready to assist in whatever way we can.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We have not had a response from the Nigerian government.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“They’ve thanked us for our willingness to be involved in trying to rescue the girls but we haven’t had any specific acceptance of the offers that we’ve made.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The United States, United Kingdom, France and Israel are already helping Nigeria; all providing surveillance and intelligence support, and specialist teams, but no significant progress has been recorded.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The offer by Australia will be the first of such as no country had so far offered special troops for the rescue operations.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Troops deployed by the US were sent to Chad, with the promise that personnel would support the operation of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft for missions over northern Nigeria and the surrounding area.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Australia’s Green Party has however advised the country’s government to apply caution.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The party, which holds minority seats in the parliament, said the government must come clean with details of the Nigeria operation before getting involved.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The Greens want to see the schoolgirls in Nigeria rescued,” the party’s leader, Christine Milne, was quoted by ABC Australia as saying.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“It is shocking to think all those young women have been dragged away and we don’t know the circumstances in which they find themselves but I think the PM needs to inform Australia fully as to what Australia would be getting into if we sent troops into Africa.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The party said it was concerned at Australia again joining a coalition to take on another terrorist war in sub-Saharan Africa, as it did in Afghanistan.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

The building was also riddled with bullets. In fact, bullet holes are still conspicuous on the premises.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The leader of the gang was identified and picked up. His confessional statement led to the arrest of 14 other members of the criminal gang.”Items recovered from them include one dane gun, one axe, one hammer, one scrapper, two criminal charms, two wraps of weed suspected to be cannabis sativa, one pack of rizzler, two palm slippers, two packets of matches, one playing ludo and seeds, two Nigerian voter’s cards bearing Salihu Dauda and one vigilante grand ID card bearing Dauda Salihu. The police commissioner while parading the 13 persons explained that they were suspected to have set ablaze a person suspected to be insane for alleged kidnapping. According to him,“in another incident, the 13 suspects were picked up when they set an insane person ablaze. This also happened the same day around 4.30pm at ‘D Division’ of the state police in the metropolis.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The hoodlums lynched a young man at Adeta Roundabout. They also lynched one Saka Shehu suspected to be an insane person. In the course of investigation, the thirteen suspects were picked up and they have made confessional statements.“The third incident was at Ganmo, in the outskirts of the metropolis. It happened on the 24th of this month.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“In the evening, a suspect by name Olayiwola Dauda was arrested. He alongside others now at large, was about to lynch a victim named Ademola Olanrewaju. The victim was immediately rescued by police men who were on patrol,” said Ambrose Aisabor at a press conference at the state police command headquarters in Ilorin.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He warned Kwarans not to take the law into their hands by illegally taking the lives of others, saying “We will not tolerate criminality in this state.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“It is a peaceful and harmonious state and we should be able to maintain that. I completely disagree,” the Conservative prime minister wrote in the Church Times, an Anglican newspaper.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I believe we should be more confident about our status as a Christian country, more ambitious about expanding the role of faith-based organisations, and, frankly, more evangelical about a faith that compels us to get out there and make a difference to people’s lives.”<br/><br /><br/><br />The open letter, which was organised by the British Humanist Association and published in the Daily Telegraph newspaper, disputes Cameron’s claims that Britain is still a Christian country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Constantly to claim otherwise fosters alienation and division in our society,” it says.<br/><br /><br/><br />It adds that highlighting the social contribution of Christians above others, which was also a theme of remarks Cameron made to an Easter reception at Downing Street, “needlessly fuels enervating sectarian debates”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The 2011 census found 59.3 percent of people in England and Wales said they were Christian, down from 71.7 percent ten years earlier.<br/><br /><br/><br />The number of those reporting no religion was 25.1 percent, up from 14.8 percent in 2001.<br/><br /><br/><br />Cameron has always been open about his faith but not evangelical, following the trend of British politicians to keep their religious convictions to themselves.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Former Labour prime minister Tony Blair was a devout Christian but said he was careful not to speak openly about his faith while in office because “you always get into trouble talking about it”. He converted to Roman Catholicism in 2007 after leaving office.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A spokeswoman for Cameron said the prime minister had made clear as far back as December 2011 that he believed Britain was a Christian country, although he recognises the importance of different faith groups.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“He has said on many occasions that he is incredibly proud that Britain is home to many different faith communities, who do so much to make the UK a stronger country,” she said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

Nigeria is a country where many people are not security conscious.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The Abuja bomb blast should be seen as an eye opener. People of the East, West and South should now know that Boko Haram is not limited to Borno State. Terrorist bomb blast may be experienced in any part of Nigeria,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ezeonwuka blamed the police for not exhibiting enough intelligence while discharging their duties.<br/><br /><br/><br />He advocated that the police should apply what he described as use of intelligence, surveillance and patrol to intercept anti-social elements in the society.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said: “The police are only after what will go into their pockets. We are in a digital era and that should be properly exploited for crime control and prevention.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is surprising that people will be kidnapped and the kidnappers do not fly in the air, they will use the roads even for a long distance with their victims without being apprehended. Don’t you see there is need for police urgent reorientation?”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ezeonwuka said President Goodluck Jonathan should not be solely blamed for the inability to stop the insurgency in the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Despite the fact that the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, every state of the federation has a governor as the chief security officer, the commissioner of police is there, down to area commanders and divisional police officers, DPOs.
