Crowds had immediately gathered on the streets below as dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene.</p><br /><p>The workers, who were harnessed to the scaffolding of the window-washing equipment, were eventually rescued more than an hour later, 2:15pm today uninjured, according to the authorities. Firefighters had to cut a hole through a window near the platform and then assembled inside, where they pulled the workers to safety.</p><br /><p>At 1,776 feet in height, the 1 World Trade Center is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.<br/><br />The tower opened last week, 13 years after a terrorist attack destroyed the twin towers that once stood in its place. <script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>A German has been abducted by some unidentified gunmen in Gombi town, Adamawa State, the State Police Command has confirmed.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The gunmen numbering about ten stormed the town on five motorcycles, Wednesday morning, in an incident security sources and local residents said occurred at about 6:45 a.m. local time at Anguwan Faransa area of the town.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The abducted German, the principal in charge of a Government Technical Skill Acquisition Centre in the town, according to reports, was on his way to work when the incident happened.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A resident of the town, Mr Joseph Ga’anda said that the man, whose name he gave as Mr Fisch, is a very popular figure in the town, reports Vanguard.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The abductors laid siege on his house, they were alleged to have slept near his house or came in the wee hours, because we saw their abandoned blankets near the house.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram,had came on motorcycles. And as soon as the man came out and was about to get into his car, two persons on foot approached him and pointed a gun at him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“They now called the two other sets of people on motorcycles who approached them and they carried him away on their motorcycle,” Mr Ga’anda has said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Almost everybody in this town knows him because he helps us a lot, especially in the area of repairing the town’s water bore holes. Most of the time he uses his own money to buy equipment and repair our boreholes,” he added.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The German Embassy in Abuja however told reporters when contacted, that it was not yet aware of the incident.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

We need God to touch the heart of the abductors so that our children would be set free.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We are just mothers and we are fulfilling our roles, that is why we are doing it on our knees. I know that our men are doing what they should do. But as mothers, this is our case. Adesiyun Biennial Memorial Public Lecture.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to him, the growing menace portends danger for the country.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“When the judiciary is corrupt, it facilitates corruption in other sectors of government and it transmits to the public that corruption is accepted,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He stated that corruption could undermine the integrity and credibility of the entire legal system, adding that court-related corruption was a significant source of institutional or systemic malfunction.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“A corrupt judiciary is prone to political manipulation and could be weak in terms of the protection of the fundamental human rights of ordinary citizens, especially the protection of rights that are of a civil and political character.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“This is because the enforcement of these rights is often directed against the state, particularly the political branches of government,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>On what causes corruption, Nasiru pinpointed lack of transparency, lack of judicial knowledge and poor supervision of courts’ staff.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The judge acknowledged the National Judicial Council (NJC)’s efforts at ridding the judiciary of bad eggs and also advocated fundamental reform of the judiciary to save it from the corruptive image it is being painted.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Until the judiciary of Nigeria is able to purge itself of bad eggs; until a fundamental reform is effected, and there is a total overhaul of the system, the judiciary of Nigeria may continue to carry the burden of corruption as an albatross,” he stated.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

A report has been made to the Governor on the issue.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The two letters, which were written in pidgin English, were sighted inside one of the classrooms and the second one was slipped into the staff room,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The principal commended the government and security operatives in the state for their prompt response to the issue.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that everything had been done to ensure the safety of the school children, adding that he had informed the Principal of Mount Saint Gabriel.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />NAN reports that about 500 out of about 700 students of the college are living in the school while Mount Saint Gabriel is purely boarding school.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Dan Ezeala, confirmed the report and assured that police were on top of the situation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>
