He is now thanking God for saving his life. Through the medical team and drugs, he admits, but ultimately, it seems, God was in charge. And he chose Brantly, not the other 1,200 mainly west African people who have died horribly, which seems a bit picky.</blockquote><br /><div style='margin-bottom: 1.2rem; padding: 0px;'> </div><br /><p>It must be lovely for Brantly to be so sure of things. I tried, aged 10, to work out whether God was around or not, but couldn’t. “What was his actual shape?” I wondered. And how could he be everywhere, all at once? How big, for example, was his toenail? Did it cover Ruislip, where I lived? I imagined him constantly on the go, distant enough for an effective overview and able to home in on catastrophes and act. But it was very hit and miss. And there was no divine retribution. I gave up on God, for ever. If only all religions would take this hands-off approach and let us all believe whatever we like. No pressure. The area has suffered considerable violence as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Most telephone masts in Gwoza and surrounding villages have been vandalised by insurgents. Roads out of the region are extremely dangerous.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Residents said Boko Haram members fleeing from Sambisa Forest had moved into their towns on motorcycles, “being spotted in Patawe, Fadagwe, Wala, Uvaha, Gatha, Jige, Warabe and Ngoshe” villages. Motorcycles had been banned throughout Borno State for almost two years, and were rarely used by non-Boko Haram members.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South constituency hails from the town. He has been lamenting thwe plight of the people, many of whom have relocated to Adamawa State in displaced persons’ camps.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />House of Representatives member Hon. They had to flee the academy for dear life.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As at today, we have not seen one of our units; also the Commander of one of the units is still missing. The N100 was never removed. It was only transferred to customer’s bank to pay, and this was intended to encourage/promote the use of ATMs nationwide.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Having sufficiently raised customers awareness, the first three “Remote-on-Us” transactions in a month are FREE for the card holder but paid for by the issuing bank. The N65 charge only applies when a customer withdraws cash from another bank’s ATM other than that of his/her bank. The N65 starts to apply from the 4th transaction at another banks’ ATM in a month.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Buttressing further on the introduction of Remote- on- Us, he said “The charge is not intended to discourage financial inclusion. The CBN will not endorse any anti-customer policy. None was allowed to undergo traditional burial because extreme care is being taken to prevent further infections,” the official noted.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The WHO in recommending that people who die from Ebola should be promptly and safely buried, notes that cremation, which is the application of high temperature to reduce bodies to basic chemical components (ashes), is ideal for safe disposal of bodies of such persons in order to minimise further transmission.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In a statement weekend, the ECOWAS Commission stated that the remains of its Protocol Assistant at the Lagos Liaison Office, Mr. Salihu Abdulqudir Jatto, who succumbed to the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, on August 12, 2014, had been laid to rest in a private ceremony in Ikorodu, Lagos state.<br/><br /><br/><br />The statement said a delegation from the Commission had earlier paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s widow and other members of his family.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jatto was among persons that assisted the American-Liberian Mr. Patrick Sawyer, and contracted the disease from the late Sawyer who took ill on arrival in Nigeria on July 20, 2014 on his way to a regional conference in Calabar, and later died in a Lagos hospital of the EVD.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement noted that prior to the burial last Friday, a special prayer service in honour of the deceased was held at the Commission’s Abuja Headquarters. By enacting the Law of 2012, we have made considerable gains in discharging the primary responsibility of government to our people in the area of protection of life and property.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Also, the decision to regulate the use of commercial motorcycles on our highways was not a unilateral decision, but a response to popular demands by members of the public who have been at the receiving end in their daily interactions with the okada operators.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Special Adviser explained that there were 9,100 roads in Lagos State, adding that motorcycles below 200cc were restricted on only 475 of the roads.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He added, “This represents 5.6 per cent of roads in Lagos. The result and impact of this decision have been tremendous. Prior to the enactment of the law, we were recording an average of 16 motorcycle-related deaths across the state every month and an average of 646 injured patients from motorcycle-related accidents at the state secondary and tertiary hospitals.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As of March this year, our statistics show only one to two motorcycle-related deaths and less than 100 motorcycle accident related injuries in a month.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Special Adviser said information going round that the government wanted to reverse the restriction was false, adding that the Fashola-led administration was the only government that had given recognition to the use of motorcycle as a means of commercial transportation through the instrument of the law and regulations, meant to protect the riders and the citizens.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Raji said those sponsoring the information were plotting to snatch ballot boxes with the use of okadas during the 2015 general elections, adding that the plan would not be allowed to stand in Lagos.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We encourage our okada riders to go about their lawful duty by obeying all the provisions of the traffic law,” he added.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

An inability to convert those chances was their only failing, and the most guilty party was tournament top scorer Asisat Oshoala.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The in-form striker, who had scored four times in the semi-final win over Korea DPR, was lively throughout but missed her first golden opportunity after 22 minutes. In fairness, she created the opening out of nothing, robbing Margarita Gidion, outpacing the German defence and rounding Kamper in a stunning display of speed and strength. She could not, however, find the finishing touch, managing only to shoot into the side-netting from an acute angle.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />With Nigeria's superior physical attributes a telling factor on the big Olympic Stadium pitch, it wasn't long before more chances arrived, with Oshoala again given a sight of goal seven minutes before the break. Again, though, her sights were out, with the ball flashing wide after Chiwendo Ihezuo had done well to snatch possession from Rebecca Knaak at the byline and cut the ball back.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />These were nonetheless worrying times for Germany, whose best effort had come from a Lina Magull free-kick comfortably saved by Sandra Chiichii.
