<script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p class='mobile-photo'><a href="http://ift.tt/1w7gd9p"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_6089548497226607698" name="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_6089548497226607698" src="http://ift.tt/1w7gdGA"/> </a> </p><br /><br/><br />The Federal Government, yesterday, described the N100million demand by Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, the alleged mastermind of the April 14 bomb blast that killed over 75 persons and wounded 100 others at a crowded motor park in Nyanya Abuja, as a big joke.<br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Consequently, the government sought an outright dismissal of the fundamental right enforcement proceeding that was initiated before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court by Ogwuche.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Ogwuche had in the application he filed through his lawyer Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN , urged the court to compel the Federal Government to pay him N100m as compensation for his continued detention in the custody of the Department of State Security, DSS, over his alleged complicity in the bombing incident.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />He told the court that he has been in detention since July 15, 2014, when he was arrested in Khartoum, Sudan and extradited to Nigeria through the help of the Interpol, saying the government has neither arraigned nor filed a valid charge against him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Ogwuche accused the Nigerian government of violating his fundamental human rights as enshrined in section 34, 35, 36, 41 and 43 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as well as Articles 2, 6, 7(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Right (Ratification& Enforcement Act).</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Aside asking for damages against the government, Ogwuche further urged the court to invoke it's powers and order his release from detention pending whenever the government is ready to conduct his trial.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />His application was further anchored on Order 2, Rule (1),(2),(3) of the Fundamental Enforcement Procedure Rule.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Meantime, the government yesterday described Ogwuche's contention as arrant balderdash, saying he is under lawful custody following his role in the Nyanya mayhem.<br/><br /><br/><br />DSS lawyer Mr Clifford Osagie also drew the attention of the court to the fact that Ogwuche has been allowed to have access to his lawyers, family members and adequate medical attention.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Osagie argued that the right to liberty accorded to the accused person under section 35(1) was not absolute, even as he adduced two exhibits (SS-2 and SS-3) to show why Ogwuche should not be allowed to regain his freedom yet.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</p><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

I said it before that it was a PDP state; it was a PDP ticket. It was taken or converted or even stolen; whatever you want to call it, so be it. The chances of the PDP are still bright.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Speculations had been rife in the country that the Presidency deliberately withdrew the charges bordering on the alleged stealing of N446 billion preferred against the aspirant last June in order to pave the way for him to contest the Kano governorship election.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />The government through the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, had justified the nolle proseque granted Abacha, claiming that it was done in the overall interest of the country and not for pecuniary or political reasons.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />The government had preferred the nine-count charge of stealing against him in February 2014, claiming that the amount was stolen from its coffers between 1995 and 1998.<br/><br /><br/><br />But during its withdrawal of the case against Abacha, the government urged the court to strike out the case since it had since discovered "fresh facts" on the matter.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Nigerian lawyer rose against the administration over the matter but it refused to budge.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</p><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

Following the deadlock, it was gathered that some yet-to-be identified members of the community made straight to the morgue and took the corpse away.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>For several hours, some past and serving Governors, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, waited endlessly amidst the frustration. After a long fruitless wait, Ekweremadu, and other dignitaries stormed out of the venue.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />As the confusion persisted, the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, waded into the matter and held a stormy meeting with all the warring parties.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />At the end of the meeting, which lasted for several hours, the Archbishop volunteered to allow the family bury the deceased at the St. Mathew's Anglican Church Amechi Awkunanaw.<br/><br /><br/><br />Saturday Vanguard recalls that the late Ifeanyi served as a commissioner during the second tenure of former governor of Enugu state, Chimaroke Nnamani. Whatever party decide is what I will do. So there is no question about that. If they ask me of course I will tell‎ them because it is correct for people if they have reasons for doing that," he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Tukur who reiterated that he did not take the party to court, said his readiness to present himself before the Committee was borne out of the fact that he remains a loyal party member, but was quick to add that he was not given fair hearing.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />It would be recalled that the former PDP chairman was on Thursday suspended by the NWC for allegedly making moves to return to the office he left in January this year and attack on the incumbent national chairman, Dr. Adamu Mu'azu.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Addressing Journalists yesterday, Tukur who noted that as a foundation member of the party he knows the rule, adding, "I have never taken my party to court.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />I have been sued myself as a defendant. The court cases are very clear. When I was sued to make appearance, naturally my representative has to go to court and represent me. But I have never sued my party.</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />"I am a founding member of this great party. I am a member of the Board of Trustees of this party and I am past national chairman of this party. I know the constitution of this party. So, how is it possible that I will sue the party. It is just a misrepresentation of facts may be because I was sued as a co-defendenat. Once you are sued you have to appear that is all I can say."</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />The Ambassador at Large who maintained that he never swore an affidavit seeking to return to office as national chairman of the PDP, said, "I can't tell a lie. When they asked whether I resigned without giving the 30 days notice, that is correct".</p><br /><br/><br /><p><br/><br /><br/><br />Continuing, Tukur who boasted that he saw no reason for him to brief the PDP national leadership before disposing the affidavit, said that nobody contacted him, adding, "In fact, I would expect that they ‎will call me and tell me what they are seeing. An inability to convert those chances was their only failing, and the most guilty party was tournament top scorer Asisat Oshoala.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The in-form striker, who had scored four times in the semi-final win over Korea DPR, was lively throughout but missed her first golden opportunity after 22 minutes. In fairness, she created the opening out of nothing, robbing Margarita Gidion, outpacing the German defence and rounding Kamper in a stunning display of speed and strength. She could not, however, find the finishing touch, managing only to shoot into the side-netting from an acute angle.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />With Nigeria's superior physical attributes a telling factor on the big Olympic Stadium pitch, it wasn't long before more chances arrived, with Oshoala again given a sight of goal seven minutes before the break. Again, though, her sights were out, with the ball flashing wide after Chiwendo Ihezuo had done well to snatch possession from Rebecca Knaak at the byline and cut the ball back.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />These were nonetheless worrying times for Germany, whose best effort had come from a Lina Magull free-kick comfortably saved by Sandra Chiichii. But Maren Meinert's side began the second half brightly, with Theresa Panfil and Lena Petermann combining to tee up Sara Daebritz for a powerful left-foot shot that skidded into the arms of Chiichii.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Oshoala remained a constant source of danger, though, and she again came to life three minutes later, jinking in from the left wing past two German defenders. All that was lacking was the final touch, with the No4's first effort striking a team-mate before the rebound was sliced high and wide.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, missing chances wasn't restricted to Oshoala and Nigeria. Germany also spurned their opportunities, with Pauline Bremer stealing in unmarked on a Sara Dabritz free-kick only to head wastefully wide. The Super Falconets then had to call on the bravery of their keeper, with Chiichii racing from her line to dive at the feet of Lena Petermann, picking up a bruised jaw in the process.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Play still tended to rage towards the other end, though, and with five minutes remaining Nigeria had the ball in the net only for their celebrations to be cut short by the assistant referee's flag. That left extra time to settle this pulsating affair and, after Oshoala had again gone close for Nigeria, it was Germany who found a breakthrough.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Petermann scored it, slotting home from six yards, but the plaudits went to the energetic Bremer, who had robbed left-back Gladys Abasi before driving towards the byline and delivering the perfect cutback.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Nigeria, who had given so much to the match, proved unable to respond. His name is Kazeem and it was he who sent distress text messages to friends and colleagues while being held captive at the forest.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Unfortunately, he was not among the victims rescued by people and minions of law at the forest. And seven days after the Saturday’s discovery of the evil forest, curious residents and colleagues of Kazeem said they would not give up until their missing colleague is rescued from the jaws of kidnappers.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />As at Tuesday, his colleagues claimed they still received test messages from him asking them to rescue him from the kidnappers’ den. Already, a search party has been launched for the Okada rider by his colleagues and relatives, who many believe could still be alive, in the forest with nine others. A source, who asked not to be named, said:<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Kazeem is a commercial motorcyclist and was lured by one of the kidnappers to the site. Unknown to his captors, he had hidden a cell phone which he used to send distress text messages to people. “He used his phone to contact some of his colleagues and gave them the description to the site of horror. That was how we came to this forest to search for him. We have searched everywhere but could not find him. We have also called his phone severally after but we could no longer reach him. He might have been killed in the forest.’’ One of the Okada operators, who is also a member of the search team, Mr. Babayemi Farinu, described his kidnapped colleague as gentle and focused.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Another Okada operator, Dapo Abbey, who spoke with newsmen yesterday, said: “We all came here to show solidarity and to fight agents of darkness. It is not because we know him, he is not under our unit, but he is our colleague because he is an Okada operator. “His name is Kazeem and he is from Olomi area.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />From what we gathered from people who know him, he is such a gentle and diligent person. He was said to have brought two passengers here last Saturday but ended up being kidnapped. He has been sending distress calls since Saturday, and this afternoon, we learned that he sent text messages to people. What that means is that he is still being held somewhere in this forest with others,” he said. “That is why we appealed to policemen to help us to search for him,” said another commercial motorcyclist, who gave his name as Ade. Nasiru Akeem, a member of Soka Unit of Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), described the disappearance of their member as very painful and unfortunate.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“When we rushed to the forest based on the distress call from Kazeem, we searched everywhere, including the building where some of the victims were found, but we couldn’t find him. Some of us shared ourselves into groups and moved deeper into the forest where we discovered more horrifying sights. We have also been to the police in an effort to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />At the moment, we have embarked on prayers and fasting because we believe that God will make it possible for us to locate his whereabouts. “We have no doubt that he is still alive; soon God will touch the hearts of his abductors and save his life”, he added. Some roadside mechanics, who ply their trade a few metres away from the horrific site, expressed disbelief and shock at the discovery. Soka is one of the new residential areas on the outskirts of Ibadan where the forest is located.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Part of the forest was occupied by some construction firms, who left at the completion of their projects, leaving behind the structures used by the kidnappers to perpetrate evil. A cross section of residents, who spoke with our correspondent, described the area as a dangerous place, especially at night, claiming that the law enforcement agents had for years been informed of the criminal tendencies of some unscrupulous elements found around the area, but nothing was done to address it.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />About 20 men and women were evacuated from the bush. The victims were bags of bones having been apparently subjected to starvation and neglect by their captors. Among the victims was a woman who claimed that she was delivered of a baby two days before the discovery and that her baby was immediately sold by her abductors. Some appeared like lunatics with deadlocks on their heads.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The scene at the forest which stretched over 15 kilometres was repulsive as decomposing bodies, human skulls, graves and human parts littered the place. Abandoned structures, containers and tankers also compete for space. They were allegedly used by the kidnappers to keep away their victims from sight. Not a few of their unlucky victims had been slaughtered there and sold in parts to human parts buyers. Inside the abandoned buildings, there were tell-tale signs of rape and torture of victims.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Among the items found are travelling bags, foot-wears, clothes, national drivers licence, wallets and passport photographs . One of the national driver’s licence bears the name Akinola James Idowu (Ogun State) of NYSC Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan with expiring date April 4, 2014. Another national driver’s licence found is that of one Saidi R. Adetoro of 52, Yaya Abatan Street, Ogba Lagos State. It was issued on March 29, 2003 and expired on November 3, 2006.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Some of the mechanics, who operate close to the forest, said the human parts trade had been on for years. They claimed to have sighted on a number of occasions some persons in posh vehicles at the site of the horror. Adekola Abato, a mechanic who spoke with our correspondent, said: “This is surprising. Since I came here for over eight years now, I never knew that this terrible thing is going on here. We ought to have known this but it’s very difficult to detect.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />We thank God that they have been exposed, but they have caused a lot of pains to the families of their victims.” Although, the forest has since been condoned off by security agents, but angry residents have continued to throng the site wielding cutlasses, clubs, shovels, iron rods and other dangerous weapons in an attempt to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Not even the sounds of gun shots and tear gas canisters fired by the police to ward off the crowd could scare them away. Governor Abiola Ajimobi has since revoked certificate of occupancy and reclaimed it for the state government. The Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon.
