One died on the way to the hospital.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Three of the children were found in one room, while their mother had soiled herself and was with her last born in another room when sympathisers broke into their apartment.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The alarm was raised around 8pm on Tuesday, when neighbours noticed an offensive oozing out of the building.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />They had called emergency numbers in the state, which did not yield a positive result until yesterday.<br/><br /><br/><br />According to the residents, sympathisers were astonished that they could not receive any assistance from the much publicised emergency numbers.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The sympathisers also invited Policemen from Ikorodu Division who rushed to the scene, but did not offer any assistance, suspecting a case of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The incident has been generating controversy in the neighbourhood as some attributed it to food poisoning,<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

We are still in that mood in spite of the many accomplishments of our administration.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Our sombreness has to do with the crises of nationhood occasioned by the activities of terrorist elements who have done the unimaginable to challenge our unity as a people.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He insisted that despite the war members of the sect were unleashing on the nation, they would not succeed in breaking up the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan said activities of the sect had further made it clear to anyone who was ever in doubt that terrorists did not mean well for anyone.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He described their persistent choice of the weakest and most vulnerable in society for attacks as an insight into their abnormal mindset.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President urged all Nigerians to put aside political, sectional or other parochial considerations, and support the efforts of the government and the military in checking insurgency in the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />His administration , he said, was “ committed to making Nigeria safe for all Nigerians, irrespective of our places of birth, how we worship God and our political persuasion.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan added, “To all those waging war against our country, I ask that you lay down your arms and embrace peace.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“To those who have genuine grievances, I affirm that Nigeria will listen to you, if you bring your grievances to the table of dialogue.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“To the good people of Nigeria, let me restate that our task of building a better and greater country must not waver.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President again promised to implement the report of the 2014 National Conference which he described as the biggest centenary gift to the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />While admitting that the nation’s 54 year-journey had not been easy, he said the Nigerian spirit and resilience had seen the nation through.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We will continue to march forward to greater heights,” he promised.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He took time to highlight some of the achievements of his administration in the past years and promised to redouble his efforts at nation-building.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ahead of the 2015 elections, Jonathan urged politicians to know that the contest should not translate into the destruction of the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “The contest for the leadership of our country must yield good governance, and not ungovernable spaces. Somebody is supposed to ensure that that building does not continue. So the government investigation should not be limited to Synagogue.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As much as possible, the searchlight should be extended to the approving agencies. Did they give approval? The people who built, did they build according to approval? If they did not give approval, then it is an illegal structure. So, whatever penalty the law says in respect of illegal structure, should be followed.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The NITP President predicted that the coastal areas of Lagos would experience massive flooding in the future on account of the land reclamation carried out by the developers of the Atlantic City project.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />This, he said, was because research had shown that the ice glaciers were melting, noting that this had resulted in the rising of the ocean with concomitant flooding of coastal areas globally.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The Atlantic city project will pose flooding challenges for settlements along the coastal area, it will lead to massive flooding in the future. These people (project handlers) are insensitive to the possible problems the reclamation would cause through ocean surge. They overlook the game reserves by meandering towards Mubi and beyond in neighbouring Adamawa State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Gwoza local government has been called “a notorious hide out for the Boko Haram insurgents, who arrived in the area in 2009 from Maiduguri. The area has suffered considerable violence as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Most telephone masts in Gwoza and surrounding villages have been vandalised by insurgents. Roads out of the region are extremely dangerous.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Residents said Boko Haram members fleeing from Sambisa Forest had moved into their towns on motorcycles, “being spotted in Patawe, Fadagwe, Wala, Uvaha, Gatha, Jige, Warabe and Ngoshe” villages. Motorcycles had been banned throughout Borno State for almost two years, and were rarely used by non-Boko Haram members.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South constituency hails from the town. He has been lamenting thwe plight of the people, many of whom have relocated to Adamawa State in displaced persons’ camps.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />House of Representatives member Hon. The latest was the statement yesterday accredited to the Deputy Director of Department of State Security, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, who described the #BringBackOurGirls campaign as a franchise.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“She made the comment in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists at the press briefing of the National Information Centre (NIC).<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“This is a dangerous and unprecedented attack because as is well known in security circles, the term ‘franchise’ is used to refer to inter-related terrorist cells. She is reported to have said that if indeed our movement was a protest group, it would not need to force members to register and wear tags.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Mrs. Ogar also affirmed security forces know about all the activities of the group. We know that they have a bank account,” she said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We know that they visit prominent individuals to solicit funds; we know that they have split themselves into groups; we know that they want to simulate a protest march in Abuja to make it look like they went to Chibok.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There is a clear attempt to smear our work with a link of our work with Chibok and Sambisa forest. It is clear from these comments that the security agencies are setting up the movement for a crackdown based on trumped up accusations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Our activities are open and our meetings are in a public space, the Unity Fountain. There is no compulsion to membership and our symbols, such as the red t-shirts, fez caps and pins are donated voluntarily by members.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are motivated by empathy and the need to search and rescue these girls. We are shocked that all we get from our security agencies is harassment, vilification, innuendoes and threats. This must stop.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Security agencies have the responsibility to protect rather than intimidate citizens trying to do a good turn.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It will be recalled that on 8th May, the Director of Defence Information of the Defence Headquarters had alleged that we distorted the report of what was for us constructive engagement with them two days previously. Investigation into the incident eventually led to the arrest of the six suspects in Bayelsa, Delta and Edo States.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ogar stated that Agbai, an unemployed graduate of Accounting from the University of Port Harcourt, was the owner of the car that was used for the abduction, adding that the suspect denied involvement in the kidnap operation, claiming that one of his friends, Jonah, requested the use of the car for a burial ceremony, which he obliged him.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In an interview with newsmen, Jonah, who admitted to providing the money and undertaking surveillance for the abduction, claimed that the motivation for the operation was not ransom.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Onuoha, the native doctor, explained that he provided charms and herbal fortification for the kidnap gang because he was afraid they may harm him and his family if he did not cooperate with them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “Abridi came with three men and said they want juju for business success which I did for them. They later said that was not what they wanted, that they wanted to kidnap someone and wanted charm for protection.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The moment they said that, their faces changed and I was afraid that if I don’t cooperate with them, they may harm me and my family because I was with my family at the time, so I agreed to help them and I asked them to pay me 10 per cent of the ransom.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ogar also explained that the leader of the kidnappers of two girls in Abuja, Asagba confessed to the crime, adding that the operation was carried out by him and four other gang members.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “Paul had been arrested previously at a military checkpoint at Uke, Keffi LGA, Nasarawa State, while in possession of two Ak-47 rifles, magazines and 87 rounds of live ammunition.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“He was arraigned in court, convicted and sentenced to one and a half years in prison which he served at Keffi Prison in March 2013.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Upon his release, he returned to his criminal activities and confessed that he kidnapped the two sisters at Life Camp, Abuja and that they collected N10m before releasing the victims, but they lied to the co-opted members that they received only N6m.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The DSS stated that the gang co-opted Iko, the security guard at the victims’ residence who provided information on the movement of the Opaluwa family.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The service said that Iko had confided in a kinsman, Ezekiel, that his employer, the father of the kidnapped girls, kept money at home and it was Ezekiel who promised to introduce him to friends that could steal the money.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Dikko was given N3,000 to buy a phone and SIM card for communication with the gang members,” Ogar explained.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

And why not? If the mother had delivered at the expected time the child would have been a teenager by now and possibly in secondary school at the JSS 3 level.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mercy, a single parent, said of her ordeal during the 14 years she was pregnant but could not give birth: “When I first took in, I knew that I was pregnant with signs and test that confirmed that I was. Four months later, I went to hospital for another test, the result showed that I wasn’t pregnant, but had fibroid.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Subsequently, I began to experience bleeding, at least once a day. Sometimes, my tummy would protrude in the semblance of pregnancy. I went to different hospitals, and I kept on receiving the same result that nothing was wrong with me. But deep down inside , I knew that all was not well with me.<br/><br /><br/><br /><b><br/> </b> <b>Churches and native doctors</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“So I was taken aback when a midwife told me I was pregnant. But considering the test which showed I had fibroid, I was angry with the midwife for giving me what I felt was a false prophecy of hope. Thereafter, I started going from one church to another and from one native doctor to the other. The results that I got from them all remained the same. I became more feeble and confused that I prayed for death to come.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I went again to the midwife two years after and complained to her about the pains that I was going through, she told me again that it was not fibroid but pregnancy; she advised me to be more prayerful so that God will deliver me from the hands of the devil. I kept on praying and at the same time asking myself that if truly I’m pregnant, why is it that the baby was not kicking?<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I bought many concoctions that they said could cure fibroid and drank them. I even drank 12 bottles of a local cleanser but to no avail. This went on for years. Then God took pity on me and decided to wipe my tears.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On the day I gave birth to my baby girl, I initially thought that worms were trying to come out of my body not knowing that it was a baby. This was what I told the midwife when we came to her. But after examining me she told me to push.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />I ignored her. I became unconscious for about 15 minutes and when I regained consciousness, I heard the cry of a baby. I was surprised and confused seeing my baby. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I asked her to push and she refused. My daughter gave her a hard slap on her laps since she refused to push.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Behold a baby with placenta came out! I started shouting, calling on people to come and see for themselves that Mercy was truly pregnant, because if not, people will start to say that that Celestial woman has given Mercy a baby. Within a twinkle of an eye, the whole place was filled with people. God is wonderful”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Also affirming the happy development, Mercy’s closest friend, Odunayo Odeyemi had this to say: “I have known mercy for over nine years now. I met her with the pregnancy . In fact, she did not know that she was pregnant. I followed her to many places but her problems kept on increasing. Merely looking at Mercy then before she gave birth, you will notice that she wasn’t okay. I kept advising her to have faith in God because I had experienced the same thing. I was pregnant for three years and three months and God delivered me.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Mercy came to me on that fateful day around 4am begging me to give her a pain reliever, that she was having pains all over her body. I dressed up and took her to a man that sells drugs. After taking the drug, on our way home, she started having serious pains. I called her brother and we both took her to the midwife. Hours later, she gave birth to a bouncing baby girl. We all were surprised because we never expected such a miracle to happen. She had a complete baby.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Robert Davidson, one of Mercy’s friends, said that he concluded after seeing Mercy with a protruded tummy for three years that she had fibroid. So, “it came to me as a shock to learn that she delivered a bouncing baby girl.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />For Chidimma Ibe, a neighbour: “She always complained to me that she had stomach pains all these period. She told me that she had fibroid and sometime, she will complain of different things. She was totally confused as to what her condition was. I’m very much surprised and happy she gave birth to a complete baby girl. It was truly a miracle. God was on her side. God is wonderful because all the concoctions she took were enough to kill the baby.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On the father of Baby Miracle, Mercy informed that they got separated on account of the ordeal that attended her pregnancy. “Friday is the name of my baby’s father. <script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br/><br /><br/><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1nIqLof" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="http://ift.tt/1nIqLof" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The N2.1bn libel suit instituted by a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu, against former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has sparked abusive exchange between the two men.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The suit, which is before Justice Valentine Ashi of a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, turned into a sort of a name calling platform, as Obasanjo in his statement of defence described Kashamu as a notorious debtor and a man lacking in local and international reputation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He described the PDP chief’s suit as “frivolous, speculative and gold digging” and urged the court to dismiss it for lack of jurisdiction because it failed to disclose any reasonable cause of action against him.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But in his reply to the statement of defence, Kashamu faulted what he described as Obasanjo’s “self-praise” referring to the former President as a social misfit and a poverty-stricken school dropout.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the former President only found fame and fortune in joining the Nigerian Army where he benefited “disproportionately” from the military incursion into governance in Nigeria.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Kashamu had on February 6, 2014, sued Obasanjo, asking the court to award N20bn as aggravated and exemplary damages, and another N100m against the former President for “maliciously and recklessly” publishing a letter entitled, ‘Before it is too late’, addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Through his counsel, Dr. Alex Iziyon (SAN), Kashamu claimed that the words used by Obasanjo to describe him in the said letter, which was published in both the print and electronic media, portrayed him “as a criminal wanted for drugs related offences in the United States of America and the United Kingdom.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But in his statement of defence filed on May 14, Obasanjo stuck to his allegations in his letter to President Jonathan, stating that he had no reason to retract the words in the said letter as requested by Kashamu’s lawyer “because the statement/words are correct, true and justified.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He added, “The plaintiff has no iota of good reputation locally and internationally.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Aside the plaintiff’s illicit drug business for which he was indicted and wanted in America, the plaintiff has penchant for taking loans from unsuspecting banks/financial institutions with the intention to permanently elude/avoid repayment or liquidation of such loans.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Further to that, the plaintiff has been judicially adjudged/confirmed a debtor by a competent court of law in Cotonou, Republic of Benin. And the plaintiff presently occupies a choice position on the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria’s list of notorious bad debtors.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The plaintiff is a person, who with his true name/identity supplied, will not be granted visa by the German government or any country of the world having good relationship with the United States of America.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But in his reply, dated May 21, to Obasanjo’s statement of defence, Kashamu stated that the former President’s claims in his statement of defence constituted “an aggravation of the libel.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said Obasanjo’s use of his touted national and international acclaim to “malign more productive members of the society is uncalled for and could be symptomatic of megalomania.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Kashamu stated, “The plaintiff acknowledges that the defendant (Obasanjo), a poverty-stricken dropout from school and otherwise a social misfit, eventually found fame and fortune by joining the Armed Forces of Nigeria and benefitting disproportionately from opportunism of military adventure into governance in Nigeria…”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said Obasanjo’s “vaunted international acclaim” was tested in 2008 when the former President contested for the position of the Secretary General of the United Nations with “a barely known diplomat from Egypt.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The defendant (Obasanjo) was put in his place as he failed to fly the flag of the nation successfully and lost the contest disgracefully,” the plaintiff’s lawyer, said on behalf of his client.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Apparently embarrassed by Kashamu’s response, Obasanjo, subsequently filed a motion on notice dated June 6, asking the court to expunge the parts of the plaintiff’s counter-affidavit which he said constituted a “personal abuse” on him.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The matter was then adjourned till July 28 and 29 for hearing.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>
