Abdulkareem, also ordered that the convict should be whipped aside the jail term.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The judge convicted Obafemi who was arraigned on one count preferred against him.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The convict was standing trial for the offence of rape contrary to section 358 of the criminal Code Cap 34 vol. II, Laws of Osun State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The victim had told the court that on September 15, 2007 Obafemi came to her residence at about 7.30pm but she ran away on sighting him.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement did not explain the relationship between the duo nor state why the victim took to her heel upon sighting the convict.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The convict pursed and beat up the victim. It was in the process of beating her that he tore her clothes having overpowered her.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“He tore her pant and he then had carnal knowledge of her plucking out her pubic hair and putting it in her mouth to drink with dry gin. He also inserted a bottle opener into the victim’s private part.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The medical report obtained from LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo also confirmed that she was raped and as at time of incident she was pregnant.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The court held that the prosecutor, Mrs. Rachel Ojimi, a chief state counsel from ministry of Justice, State of Osun was able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The judge subsequently sentenced Obafemi to life imprisonment.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

She is traumatized at the moment because her speech is not coordinated. As I speak to you now, I am on my way to Adamawa. When she is stabilized I will encourage her to speak to you. The young lady with me here should not be up to 20 years”, he said.</p><br /><p>Enoch, with the daughters still at the mercy of the Islamist sect, said it was the insurgents that dropped the girl off at the point where they asked her to find her way and that she wondered round many hamlets for four days before she was able to locate Chibok.</p><br /><p>“Let me be clear to you, the military has nothing to do whatsoever about her release. It was the insurgents who decided to show her mercy, lest anybody takes the glory of her freedom. Whatever the military might be doing now is rather too late. The damage has been done already. I shed tears when I saw her. A girl of less than 20 has suddenly turned old woman. We pray others including my two daughters would be set free soon. By the time she is fully rested we should be able to get some information from her”, he said.</p><br /><p>The Adamawa police command spokesperson, Othman Abubakar, did not answer calls to his cell phone or reply to text message sent him in an attempt to confirm if he was aware of the development.</p><br /><p>It would be recalled that the military on Tuesday claimed to have rescued some of the girls. Shortly after, it retracted its statement.</p><br /><p>Army spokesman, Brig-Gen Chris Olukolade, had told the BBC there were girls in military custody, but not those from Chibok as originally thought.</p><br /><p>The abduction of the girls had caused worldwide outrage and sparked a social media campaign.</p><br /><p>Protests were organised under the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls, calling on the Federal Government to do more to free the girls, who had gone to the school in Chibok from surrounding areas to take their final year exams.</p><br /><p>Shortly after the abduction, Boko Haram released a video showing more than 100 of them and offering an exchange for prisoners.</p><br /><p>In recent days there have been unconfirmed reports that the government has been negotiating a deal with Boko Haram to exchange the abducted girls for imprisoned Islamist fighters.</p><br /><p>Source: BusinessDay</p><br /></div>

Two hours later, it transmitted the first pictures from the Red Planet.</p><br /><p>The U.S. space agency was quick to congratulate its Indian counterpart.</p><br /><p>“We congratulate @ISRO for its Mars arrival! @MarsOrbiter joins the missions studying the Red Planet,” NASA tweeted.</p><br /><p>“It is a landmark achievement. We have made it to Mars. What else can a developing country can achieve at such a low cost. It is one of the cheapest interplanetary space missions ever. It only shows that Indian space scientists are one of the best in the world,” said Raj Kumar, a space expert.</p><br /><p>The total cost of the Indian mission has been put at 4.5 billion rupees (74 million U.S. dollars), cheaper than the cost of making a Hollywood movie.</p><br /><p>“At its closest point, the orbiter will be 365 km from the planet’s surface, and at its furthest 80,000 km. The Mangalyaan probe will now set about taking pictures of Mars and analysing its atmosphere.
