He was said to have lamented the failure of the club to equalise the one goal scored by Atiletico Madrid in the first half .<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Reports said he sat in front of his house still lamenting ,when he slumped . Unfortunately, he did not live to see his expectation come true , as efforts to resuscitate him in a private hospital where he was said to have been rushed to, failed as he was confirmed dead. Real Madrid, however, won the match 4-1. He did not live to see his Club lift the Champions League the 10th time.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ogunbanjo on his part was said to have gone to a saloon on Okepopo street, off Olushi, to have his hair cut but decided to watch the match alongside other football fans.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />When it became apparent that Real Madrid could not equalise, some of his friends were said to have started making jest of the club’s fans,when all of a sudden Soga as he was popularly called, reportedly slumped.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Owner of the shop where Ogunbanjo slumped , one Danku explained that : “ Soga came to have his hair cut. When that was done, he said he would watch the UEFA championship match between Real and Atiletico Madrid and when it was 90 minutes and Real Madrid has not ‘levelled-up’ , there was tension among fans that Real Madrid had lost the match”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />"A boy sitting beside Soga noticed when he slumped and raised alarm. I said I am a Christian,” said 23-year-old Liatu, as she recounted her ordeal in the hands of Boko Haram members to the British Broadcasting Corporation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“On the 11th day (in captivity), they brought a man to me and said that he liked me and that I should convert to Islam so that he can marry me,” she added in the report published by the BBC on Monday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Liatu claimed that in Sambisa Forest, Borno State, where she was taken to after being seized at a roadblock last year, she witnessed the killing of 50 persons by the insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to her, the insurgents, who had earlier killed Muslims employed by the government, preferred to use knives to slit peoples’ throats than shooting them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “They were slitting people’s throats with knives. Both women and men were killed, especially the men who didn’t agree to fight for them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Those that tried to escape were shot but they hardly ever used their guns to kill. They usually used knives. About 50 people were killed right in front of me.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Liatu also told the BBC that the terrorists were usually tipped off about any imminent attack by the army.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />This, she claimed, allowed the militants to hide in caves and forests close to the Cameroonian border.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Liatu, who refused to eat anything during her days in captivity, added that after being told about the proposed marriage, she made an extremely risky escape.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “One of the captives stood up and said, ‘You only die once. Who is ready to make a run for it?’ Six of us jumped into one of the Boko Haram vehicles in the camp – a Volkswagen Golf.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They chased us on motorbikes, shooting at the car until we got close to Bama town. Then they left and we got out of the car to continue on foot as there was a curfew in place. It was only then that I realised the three people on the backseat had all been shot dead.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Like, Liatu, 19-year-old Janet, said she witnessed the slaughtering of people by the militants.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They went to Gwoza and brought five people to the camp. They started slaughtering them in front of me,” said Janet, who was in the insurgents’ den for three months.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />At a point, she added, the insurgents ordered her to slit the throat of one of the captured people but she declined.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Then they ordered me to slit one of their throats. I refused. I told them I couldn’t do it. Then the wife of the leader of the group killed him instead.” Janet said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said she recognised the faces of the men who held her captive as most of them came from her area.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Janet said, “I knew almost all the people in the group I was with. I knew them from my home area.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I was really angry and when I couldn’t keep quiet any longer, I said to one of them, ‘When we were at home you would even visit me and I respected you. So why are you doing this to me?”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A teacher who survived last month’s attack on a boarding school in Yobe State also narrated to the BBC how the insurgents killed some pupils in the institution.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I peeped through the window and saw the gunshots coming in… and there was a lot of shouting,” he said, declining to give his name.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The teacher added, “I came back silently and said, ‘Let us lock our doors and pray. If they come in, that is maybe the end of our lives.’ We kept on praying and praying and praying.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“In one house, they even met two children that had been left behind by their parents who had fled to the bush. After coming in, the insurgents saw the children sleeping on their mattress.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They woke them up asked them to go outside. They put the mattress outside and asked them to sleep. Then they set the house ablaze.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We cried. Some of them were slaughtered like goats. Others were shot.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Most of them had high hopes that they would be future leaders. Some of them in class were telling us they would be lawyers and doctors. <script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1h3HvDX" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://ift.tt/1h3HvDX" width="320"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Plenary at the ongoing National Conference resumed on Monday with delegates disagreeing on the rules that would guide their deliberations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />One of the issues that generated heated debate was the number of delegates to form the quorum during sittings.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, after heated arguments, the Chairman of the conference, Justice Idris Kutigi (retd.), ruled that the provision in the rules that one-third of all the delegates should form the quorum remained.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The delegates further had a hot debate on the duration of the plenary, following a proposal by Chief Segun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Osoba, a leader of All Progressives Congress, had proposed an amendment to the provision of the rules of proceedings, saying that the conference should not be rigid about it.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The current rule stipulates that plenary begins at 10 am and lasts till 2pm to give way for a lunch break that lasts till 4pm when plenary resumes to close at 6pm.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Some of the delegates canvassed for the plenary to hold between 9am and 4pm without break, while others suggested the reduction of the break time to one hour, to enable them to close at 5pm.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, Kutigi ruled that the current provision be retained.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Members also debated on basing the final decision on any issue at the conference on three-quarter (75 per cent) majority.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and some delegates opposed the provision, arguing that no parliament world over decided any matter based on three-quarter majority votes.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />They argued that the practice rather, was to base decisions on two-third majority.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Kutigi, however, drew the attention of the members to President Goodluck Jonathan’s inaugural speech, stating that decisions on matters should receive 75 per cent majority votes.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />There was no final decision on the provision when the conference adjourned at 2pm for break.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Some delegates had earlier expressed displeasure over the difficulties they went through before gaining entrance to the venue.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />They called on the secretariat to ensure that they were not made to have such experience again.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Meanwhile, some delegates on Monday openly grumbled over their inability to eat lunch at the ongoing national conference in Abuja.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The delegates, who lined up for food at the National Judicial Institute venue of the conference, were not happy that they were unable to eat after queuing for a long period.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />One of the delegates, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said that she was not happy that the management did not take the number of the delegates attending the conference into cognisance judging from the quantity of food prepared for them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“See the way we lined up for food and at the end of the day, some of us were not served. Ekiti people have been known to resist shady characters. It also hailed the decision of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to investigate the incident.
