They would do anything in their power to divide this nation. They would prefer divided Nigeria than a united Nigeria.</p><br /><p>“We have restrained our people so much and we will continue to restrain them. We need help. We want a nation where everyone is equal where everyone respects the constitution.<br/><br />“The way out is that all well-meaning Nigerians must pray and continue to pray. We cannot stop praying because that is all we have. I will not join those condemning our security agencies because they are also Nigerians. It is a terrible situation for them too but having said that I want to challenge the military they can do better.</p><br /><p>“One of the things they must do which we have being saying for a long time is to continue to fish out those who are sabotaging their efforts. They are within them (the military) and they must<br/><br />after fishing them out expel them from all the agencies.</p><br /><p>“They are in all the agencies of the military. This is very vital because no matter how the military plan, if they have people within the system that are undermining the system and working against it, then the system cannot succeed. It is important that what they have started they should continue and finish in the sense that there are too many people destroying the military<br/><br />formation.”</p><br /></div>

As a country, we are currently not doing enough in that regard, not in educating them, not in promoting and caring for their health and not in dealing with crimes against them such as rape and several others.</p><br /><p>“WOTCLEF believes that every child has a right to life, to education, to leisure, to recreational activities and to develop mentally and emotionally, and to protection from any form of harm.<br/><br />“Perhaps no greater harm can be done to a girl-child than denying her an education. And it is also a great harm to the society. Educating girls is vital because girls who acquire education tend to become better mothers, have fewer and healthier children.</p><br /><p>“Indeed, as UNICEF points out, every additional year of schooling reduces the probability of child mortality by five to ten percent. And if you look around your various communities you are likely to find that children whose mothers are educated tend to be educated themselves.</p><br /><p>“Figures from the United Nations, national reports and studies initiated by non-governmental organizations always show that girls, as a group, have lower literacy rates, received less health care, and are often more impoverished than boys.</p><br /></div>

Agency of Nigeria reports that on Sept. 12, a six-story building within the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed in Lagos.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It led to the death of 116 people, most of whom were foreigners, with several others injured.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Lagos State Government, on Sept. 26, constituted a coroner’s court to unravel the circumstances leading to the incident and Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe was appointed as the coroner.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />NAN reports that a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, on Oct. 28, filed a suit seeking an order restraining further proceedings in the inquest pending the determination of a substantive suit at the FHC.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Listed as respondents in the suit are the Lagos State Government, the Attorney-General of the State, Mr Ade Ipaye and Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />At the resumed hearing of the case on Thursday, the counsel representing the respondents, Mr Akinjide Bakare, informed the court that he had just filed his counter affidavit to the applicant’s processes.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that he had served the counter-affidavit on the applicant in the open court.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In response, counsel to the applicant, Mr Nelson Okedinachi, confirmed service of the respondent’s processes on him in court, but said that he would require time to file his response.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Consequently, Justice Ibrahim Buba adjourned the suit till Nov. 10 to enable parties regularise, before hearing of the suit.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />NAN reports that at the last adjourned date, Buba had refused to grant an application by Ogungbeje for an interim order restraining the coroner’s court from further sitting until the suit was heard.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The judge had held that he would, rather, hear the case on its merit since all parties were duly represented in court.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In his suit, the applicant averred that the composition of the coroner’s court was a negation of the principle of natural justice and Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He averred that it was, as such, unconstitutional and void.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to the applicant, the inquest was constituted by the Lagos State Government after agencies of the state government had indicted the Church of erecting additional structures on an already existing building without approval.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He argued that if allowed to continue, the proceedings of the coroner inquest would occasion a miscarriage of justice, as the coroner would base its decision on the testimonies of the same government agencies.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The lawyer alleged that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Fire Service had made prejudicial reports.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that they had said that the building collapsed due to the erection of additional structures on the existing one.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ogungbeje said that the contention of the Church that the building collapsed as a result of an aircraft hovering round the building moments before it collapsed was ignored.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He averred that the Lagos State Building Control Agency went ahead to seal up the main building of the church.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The lawyer is, therefore, seeking an order nullifying the composition of the coroner and its proceedings so far.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also wants as an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants jointly and severally from further proceedings.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The applicant had asked that every We believe that we will come together and fight the case, if need be,’’ Nicol said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the shipping lines and terminal operators should know that without the shippers, without the cargoes, they would not raise invoices against anyone.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Nicol said, “We shippers would make up our mind whether to continue doing business in Nigeria or we look at how we can harmonise all the charges and get on with our business.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Right now, some of the stakeholders said they would withdraw their services because of the high charges.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is something that affects all the stakeholders, down the line to the freight forwarders. The couple have been in a relationship for over eight years before they finally tied the knot on Sunday, November 17, 2013.</p><br /><p>There has been a lot of talk and whispers about their marriage, the family issues and the fact that Lola is by far older than Peter Okoye has been trending. But why did she decide to marry someone who’s her junior?</p><br /><p>Below is Lola Omotayo’s stand on their age difference…</p><br /><p>Lola, who was a Business Development Director at FKG2m a marketing agency in Lagos, had told the story of how she and Peter met and how the relationship started:<br/><br />“My agency handles some of British American Tobacco brands and P’Square was doing a show for us at one of our events in Enugu. Though I had met Peter a couple of times before then, at the show there was some chemistry.</p><br /><p>He asked for my number and I refused giving it to him. I told him ‘if you really want to know me, you have to find my number’. So he took it as a task and found my number and the rest is history.”</p><br /><p>Lola, said to be in her 30s then and Peter in his 20s, was not disturbed by the age difference. Her reason:<br/><br />“Like I said, Peter is an old soul and he always tells me that I’m like a 23-year-old. Age is just a number. Right now, you can see it around the world. Demi Moore, Usher and some known people. Even in Nigeria here, they are dating people far older than their age. So, we shouldn’t base it on the age factor. He doesn’t make me feel like he’s younger than me.”</p><br /></div>
