<script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1izfksY" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://ift.tt/1izfksY" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><b><br/> </b> <b>Ahmed Zana, a Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial in the Nigerian Senate disclosed in the National Assembly on Tuesday that information available to him indicated that most of the over 200 girls abducted in Chibok about three weeks ago have been moved to Chad and Cameroon.</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He added that some of the girls are in Chukungidiya in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Senator spoke while contributing to a motion sponsored by Senate leader Victor Ndoma Egba and other 107 Senators to condemn the abduction of the school girls and the Nyanya bomb blast that claimed the lives of over 75 persons recently.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But Senator Zana whose constituency included the Chibok area where the girls were kidnapped also disclosed that the girls have been forcefully married by the insurgents who are currently residing in some of the 40 islands in Borno.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I have been constantly in touch with the security agencies, telling them the developments, the movement of the girls from one place to the other and then the splitting of the girls and eventually the marriage of these girls by the insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“What bothers me most is that whenever I inform where these girls are, after two to three days, they will be moved from that place to another and still, I will go back and inform them that see, this is what is happening.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But I lost hope two days ago when I found out that some of them were moved to Chad and Cameroon.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Actually, some of them move through the Mandara Mountain, that is in Gwoza and some of them are just a stone throw from their barracks, even now as I am talking to you, in Cameroon because it is in Kolofata, which is in Cameroon about 15 kilometre or even less to the borders.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“One of the insurgents called somebody in Bama and said I just got married and said I am now settling in Kolofata and then three or four days ago, some Fulani men reported that they saw some girls being taken by boats into the island in Lake Chad and that some of them happened to be between Marte and Mungonu, maybe,” said the Senator.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />While contributing to the motion, another Senator from Borno, Ali Ndume, said the military attempt to rescue the girls was hampered by lack of information when the kidnapping occurred.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />While narrating how the girls were abducted, Ndume said when the insurgents arrived at Chibok, they went to the Motor Park and seized seven vehicles to add to the ones they came with.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The commanders had alleged that their allowances were not being paid and that the number of soldiers are inadequate. There is no new equipment, all of them are old. The other time we went there, one of the armoured tanks broke down and we had to tow it with another vehicle”—Senator Ali Ndume.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also said the military has not been able to rout Boko Haram because the troops were not well motivated and equipped for the task.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The commanders had alleged that their allowances were not being paid and that the number of soldiers are inadequate. The other time we went there, one of the armoured tanks broke down and we had to tow it with another vehicle, said the Senator.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Senate president David Mark had while welcoming the Senators who were resuming after a three week break called attention of the lawmakers to the raging insurgency in North east Nigeria which he likened to war. He said only a decisive action by the government against the insurgents can save the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There is no doubt that our nation is at war. The enemy has clearly and unequivocally served the nation notice of its vile intentions. Therefore, a clear, unambiguous and decisive military response from the Government, beyond the imposition of a state of emergency, is urgently required in this circumstance. This is an option we must consider now.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is obvious that we are dealing with insurgents and well funded nihilists who are determined to violently trample upon the secularity of the Nigerian State and destroy the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“A modern, vibrant, progressive, multi-ethnic, multi-religious Nigeria is an anathema to them. Because they are fired by zealotry and extremism, they are not likely to be swayed by overtures of any kind. We must henceforth shift from fighting terrorism to fighting insurgency,” Mark said while setting off the emotional debate that lasted over three hours.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Senators who contributed to the debate also identified lack of cooperation from the local communities, inferior military equipment, lack of motivation, and insufficient personnel as the major factors impeding the war against the success of the military in the war against the insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Senators noted that the abduction of the school girls was a clear indication of the deteriorating security situation in Borno and other parts of the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I had a 30 minutes chat with the traditional ruler in Chibok yesterday and the briefing he gave to me is identical with the submission of Senator Zana and the other people from Borno State,” the Senate President said while making his own contribution to the motion.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But he added the problem is not so much as to whether the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram are even in the country now or not, but that 234 girls can disappear and up till now none has been rescued. He also noted that the 53 girls who are back escaped on their own.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The story that Ndume narrated about soldiers going in the wrong direction when they got the information is a clear indication of what we are in for. The people we are dealing with are well trained. They are not terrorists, they are insurgents. All along we have been reactive, if we are not proactive we cannot deal with it.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I have been in the fore front of saying we must dialogue with them but I think we must take the battle to a level where they also must beg for dialogue.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We cannot do this unless the locals on group there corporate with the members of the armed forces,” said Senator Mark.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Senate subsequently adopted the prayers of the motion which includes urging the federal government and all security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted girls and seeking the support of the United Nations Security Council and other international organisations in the battle against Boko Haram insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

When contacted, Adeline Osakwe, Deputy Director, Pharmacovigilance, Food and Drugs Information Centre, NAFDAC, said the use of chloroquine and artesunate in Nigeria was being gradually phased out. “Since 2005, the use of monotherapies such as Artesunate, Chloroquine had been discouraged in favour of Aretmisinin Combination Therapy (ACT) for uncomplicated malaria.</div><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'> </div><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>“These ACTs include Arthemeter/Lumenfantrine, Artesunate/Amodiaquine, and other registered ones. Ms. Osakwe said that the monotherapies are gradually being phased out by not registering new ones and not renewing those that their licenses had expired.” The World Health Organisation, WHO, had placed a global ban on the use of chloroquine and Artesunate in 2005. Speaking on the World Malaria Day celebration, Ms. Ezeigwe advised pregnant women to register early for ante-natal care in order to receive preventive treatment against the disease.</div><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'> </div><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>“Expectant mothers should demand for preventive treatment, `Intermittent Preventive Treatment in Pregnancy (IPTp)’ during ante-natal visits from 16 weeks of pregnancy,’’ she said. Charles Ekeocha, Public Relations Officer of the brigade, said this while briefing journalists in Suleja.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Ekeocha said that men of the brigade discovered the factory while on `cordon and search’ operations in Paiko and Kache areas in Niger State.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The spokesman said items recovered from the suspect included 44 Dane guns, three pistols and different tools for fabrication of guns and assorted weapons.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Initial preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect still have three more local guns factories located within Gwagwalada and Bwari areas of FCT.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The septuagenarian and exhibits will be handed over to the Department of State Security (DSS) for further investigation and prosecution.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Ekeocha appealed to members of the public to give useful information to security agencies to assist them in stamping out crime and undesirable element from the society.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The suspect (namewithheld), who spoke through an interpreter, said he had been in the trade for close to 45 years.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to him, he sells the guns for prices ranging from three thousand naira to five thousand naira to his customers, especially hunters and vigilance group members.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Asked whether he has a license to operate the gun factory, he said it had expired.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“I sell my guns to anybody who comes around; if I get out of this, I will not go back to the business,” the suspect said.[NAN]</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

If they are dead; we want to see their corpses.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“For the past two weeks that the incident occurred, nobody has talked to us; has the government thrown away the bath water with the baby?’’</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Mutah said that they came to Abuja to express their dissatisfaction with the way the rescue effort of their kidnapped daughters was being handled.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We have come here to express our dismay, probably if the government sees us like this; it may ginger them to do what they are supposed to do.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We want government to rescue our daughters from their abductors’’, she said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Earlier, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, who addressed the women on behalf of the Senate President David Mark, said the National Assembly was saddened by the incident.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“I want to assure that the Senate is not sleeping, senate is not reneging on its responsibility but is working very hard that something is done very urgently on this matter.’’</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Gemade said the first issue handled by the senate when it resumed on Tuesday was a motion on the abduction.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He assured that government was doing everything possible to address the issue without further delay.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Sen. Helen Esuene and Sen. Zainab Kure also appealed to them to remain calm, assuring that the matter was being addressed.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Sen. Ali Ndume (Borno South) also came to address them.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Ndume, addressing newsmen later, urged security agencies to intensify their search and rescue the girls.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“There is no other solution than intensifying action whether by seeking external support or by engaging everybody to make sure that these girls are returned to their parents.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The longer it takes, the dimmer the chances, the longer it takes, the more traumatising it is for the family, especially the girls, who find themselves in that condition’’, he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Ndume, who could not hold back tears while addressing the women, said only God knows what the girls were passing through in the hands of their abductors.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The women, dressed in black, had converged on Eagle Square before marching to the National Assembly and handed a letter to Gemade for onward delivery to the leadership of National Assembly.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>It will be recalled that the people of Chibok, under the Kibaku Area Development Association (KADA) on April 17, appealed to the Federal Government to intensify effort and rescue the girls. <script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1iydngn" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://ift.tt/1iydngn" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><b><br/> </b> <b><br/> </b> <b>The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed the claim by a Singaporean, Wilson Perumal, that he helped Nigeria qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A statement from NFF’s Assistant Director (Communications), Ademola Olajire, on Tuesday in Abuja said Perumal’s claim was nothing more than “distinct fiction by a self-confessed and convicted Singaporean match-fixer”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The true heroes of Nigeria’s qualification for the 2010 World Cup were the Federal Government, the NFA, players and coaches of the Super Eagles, and the rest Nigerians,” it said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement also quoted NFA’s General Secretary, Musa Amadu, as saying Nigeria had nothing to do with Perumal all through Super Eagles’ qualifying campaign for the World Cup in South Africa.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We have gone through the fictitious write-up by the Singaporean, who was fittingly convicted for his nefarious activities and has spent time in jail.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The NFA is saying now that there was no truth to the claim and that we had nothing to do with Perumal all through the Super Eagles’ qualifying matches for 2010 FIFA World Cup.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Perumal’s statements are hogwash and have no legs to stand on. We have ordered for the book itself with a view to digesting it and looking critically at it.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“If the book impugns on the image of the NFA, our players and the larger image of our dear country, we will take appropriate action,” the statement quoted Amadu as saying.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It added however that Amadu said further enquiries on the matter should be directed at world football-governing body, FIFA, since the match was a FIFA competition qualifier.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“NFA’s Integrity Officer, Sanusi Mohammed, stated that he, alongside NFA’s Match-fixing Investigative Officer, Christian Emeruwa, was in communication with FIFA Security (Department) on match-fixing matters and would dig deeper into the claim,” the statement read.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Perumal had claimed in the book that he helped Honduras and Nigeria to qualify for the 2010 World Cup through his activities.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He claimed he held a meeting with a Nigerian football official where he promised to help Nigeria qualify for the World Cup.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />This was in return for free rein in organising three warm-up matches and a cut of the money FIFA provides for hosting a training camp during the competition.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Perumal claimed to influence three players who are on his payroll to help Nigeria to victory in one of their qualifiers.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He further claimed to have promised the Mozambique Football Association a $100,000 bonus if they were able to hold Tunisia to a draw.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The draw would have stopped Tunisia from leapfrogging Nigeria and seize automatic qualification.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

Eventually, Mozambique defeated Tunisia 1-0.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also claims to have attempted unsuccessfully to bribe referees at the World Cup itself.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />"My plan had worked and I was the unsung hero of Nigeria's qualification to the final rounds of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa," Raj was quoted as saying in his book.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Raj Perumal, is described as a self-confessed match-fixer, part of a syndicate that has been placed at the heart of a sophisticated network responsible for fixing hundreds of matches around the world. He was arrested in Helsinki in 2011 and sentenced to two years in prison.
