Such (erring) policemen would be arrested and made to face stern disciplinary action.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He commended police personnel and other law enforcement agencies that participated in the policing of the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28 for their good conduct.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The IG noted that their selflessness and dedication to duty contributed in no small measure to the overall success of the elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also commended the high level of comportment, discipline, orderliness, patience and understanding exhibited by the electorate throughout the period.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Abba commended Nigerians for the huge assistance they extended to the police and other law enforcement agencies which made the elections hitch-free.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The IG, however, called for a similar level of citizens’ cooperation and support for the security agencies during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He urged all citizens to remain calm, confident, hopeful and trust in the ability of the security agencies to protect them during the exercise.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Abba, in another statement also on Wednesday, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a hitch -free election on Saturday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He therefore warned all those who might want to cause trouble during and after the polls to desist or face unpleasant consequences.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The IG, who explained that measures had been mapped out to stop trouble- makers in their track, said the police had identified flash points in some geopolitical zones.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He advised party leaders to implore their supporters to shun any act of violence as the full weight of the law would be applied on offenders.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

That is why I am advising the governor to take this matter very seriously. He should seek legal advice on this matter,” Falana said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The impeached Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, had said that the 19 APC lawmakers had served a notice of impeachment on the governor.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Falana pointed out that in a democratic system of government, the majority would have its way while the minority would have its say.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He stressed that the 19 APC members that served the notice on the governor met the constitutional provision for impeachment.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Falana said, “Section 96 (1) says the quorum of a House of Assembly shall be one-third of all the members of the House. In the case of Ekiti, the very least that can sit is eight members.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Section 188 says that whenever a notice of any allegation in writing is signed by not less than one-third of the members of the House of Assembly and is presented to the Speaker that is known to law, the Speaker shall, within seven days of the receipt, cause a copy to be served on the governor or the deputy governor. That is enough to put the engine in motion for the impeachment of a governor. The constitution does not say the letter must be signed in the House.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“And from the look of things, that constitutional provision has been met. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress, the nation would have been saved “a full year of bloodshed.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan visited Danjuma, who is the Chairman of the Victims Support Fund, in company with some of his aides.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The two leaders however met behind closed doors and they did not make the purpose of the parley public.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Danjuma however told journalists at the end of the meeting that the President, by conceding defeat in the March 28 presidential election to Buhari, had set a record.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said Africa and the world should emulate Jonathan.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He observed that if the late Ojukwu had done the same thing after the fall of Enugu, he would have saved the nation of bloodshed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “The outcome of the election and the manner in which President Jonathan conceded victory to Buhari, is totally un-African, it is very important in the history of Africa.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“If Ojukwu did the same after the fall of Enugu, if he had conceded victory to the federal troops, he would have saved the nation one full year of bloodshed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“President Jonathan has set a history, a record as something to be emulated by the rest of Africa and indeed the whole world. It’s an excellent thing he did.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan simply thanked Danjuma for his fatherly support during the election.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It will be recalled that the former minister had on March 11 visited Jonathan at the Presidential Villa during which they met behind closed doors inside Jonathan’s official residence.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Danjuma had after the first meeting warned reporters not to speculate the purpose of the visit.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said having just returned to the country from a foreign trip, he needed to see Jonathan and find out developments in the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Don’t speculate. I came to visit the President and find out how things are going. I have been abroad. I just came back,” he had said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />When asked whether he was ready to support Jonathan’s re-election, Danjuma had said he could not canvass votes for anybody because he does not belong to any political party.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I don’t canvass (for votes). I am not in any of the political parties. Fayose races to court to stop impeachment, judge turns down request

House of Assembly from impeaching them.</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But they met a brick wall as the judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, turned down their request and granted only the prayers contained in their ex parte application relating to the service of the court processes on the defendants.<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Fayose and Olusola, in the ex parte application, asked for an interim order stopping the impeachment notice served on them and the moves to remove them from office.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Rather than granting the prayers for interim injunction, Justice Mohammed ordered the defendants in the suit, including the Speaker of the House, Adewale Omirin, and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to appear in his court on April 16.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />They are to show cause why the order of interim injunctions being sought by the plaintiffs should not be granted.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Apart from Omirin and Daramola, the other defendants in the suit are the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, and the Independent National Electoral Commission.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The plaintiffs, apart from Fayose and Olusola, are the House of Assembly and Olugbemi Dele, who was appointed by seven Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers as their speaker.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Counsel for the plaintiffs, Ahmed Raji, had in the ex parte application dated April 7 urged the court to set aside the impeachment notice and restrain the defendants from taking any further steps in that direction.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The lawyer argued that the impeachment notice signed by Omirin amounted to impersonating the “incumbent speaker (Dele).’’<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “The kernel of our complaint is that a former speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, in the person of the 1st respondent (Omirin) is trying to impersonate the 1st plaintiff (Dele), who is the current speaker of the parliament.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Part of the orders sought by the plaintiffs are: “An injunction restraining the 1st defendant (Dele) and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff (House of Assembly) from further taking any step or engagining in unlawful activities relating to the impeachment of Ayodele Fayose and Kolapo Olusola as governor and deputy governor of Ekiti State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“An interim order of injunction restraining the Chief Judge from taking any step or action in relation to the request of the 1st defendant (Omirin) for the purpose of appointing a panel of seven persons to investigate the purported allegations of gross misconduct against Fayose and Olusola.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“An interim order restraining the police from continuing to abet, give cover, protection or lend credence to the activities of the 1st defendant and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff for self-help in disruption of legislative proceedings in the House of Assembly.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“An interim order setting aside the purported notice of impeachment and all the steps taken by the 1st defendant and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff in relation to the purported issuance and service of the notice of impeachment for the purpose of commencing and concluding impeachment proceedings against Fayose and Olusola.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The plaintiffs had urged the court to grant the prayers and make the interim injunctions to subsist pending the determination of their motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions seeking the same set of prayers.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Raji urged the court to grant the prayers “in the interest of justice, public order, peace and safety of the people of the state.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But the judge rather than granting the interim injunctions ordered the parties to appear in court to convince him on why the plaintiffs’ prayers should not be granted.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Justice Mohammed ruled, “The order is hereby made directing the 1st to 4th defendants (Omirin, IG , INEC and Ekiti CJ) to appear before this court on April 16, 2015 and show cause why the interim order sought by the plaintiffs via an ex parte motion dated April 7, 2015 should not be made by this court.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The court granted leave to serve Omirin and Justice Daramola, who reside in Ekiti State, outside jurisdiction.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It also ordered that Omirin and the CJ be served through advertisement in a national newspaper.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It also made a separate order that the CJ be served with processes of court through the office of the Chief Registrar of of the Ekiti State High Court.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In their main suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/302/2015, the plaintiffs are seeking nine prayers among which is “an order setting aside the purported notice of impeachment and all steps taken by the 1st defendant (Omirin) with other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff in relation to the purported issuance and service of the said notice of impeachment for the purpose of commencing and concluding the impeachment proceedings against Fayose and Olusola, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The move by the APC lawmakers to sack Fayose and Olusola had led to mayhem in parts of the state on Monday and Tuesday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />During protests on Tuesday by Fayose supporters, a man, Modupe Olaiya, was shot dead in Efon Alaaye.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Olaiya’s death became a subject of controversy with Fayose accusing the APC lawmakers being culpable in a in a petition he sent to the IG.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The APC lawmakers were escorted by five fully armed riot policemen, who I later discovered were brought from MOPOL 20 in Lagos State,” he added.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He listed the mobile policemen as Sgt Oyelakin Zacchaeus (F/No 386073), Cpl Adewuya Clement (F/No 396903), Cpl James Ogunji (F/No 386976), Cpl Ebute Michael (F/No 343469) and Cpl. Ibrahim Zock (F/No 235510).<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Fayose urged Abbah to investigate the role of the policemen in the whole saga.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “To my surprise, instead of the police arresting the lawmakers, they were allowed to return to Osogbo, Osun State where they came from.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As I write, the entire Efon Alaaye community is tense, with the people expecting justice to prevail on the gruesome murder of Modupe Olaiya.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is therefore on this note, and most importantly, the need to restore the confidence of the people in the police that I implore that you use your good offices to order a thorough investigation into the murder.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is also important that the involvement of the above listed mobile policemen is ascertained as they were not from Ekiti State and were not deployed to escort the lawmakers to the state by the state police command.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Olaiya’s mother, Apeke, told journalists in company with her daughter-in-law, Yinka, that one of the lawmakers killed her son.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “It (killing) happened at Fabo, at Efon Junction on the way to Ijebu-Ijesha.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They said he (lawmaker) was coming with some OPC (Odua Peoples Congress) members from Lagos and they made a detour in Osun State, but they were coming to Ekiti through Ijebu-Ijesha.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“What I learnt was that when the convoy arrived at Fabo Junction, they opened fire on the protesters who had mounted a roadblock, claiming that that Efon people were heady and stubborn.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I was told that my son had hidden behind a car when everyone else had scampered to safety. They however opened fire on the people as soon as they gathered an appreciable number of the villagers in the village square.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He lamented that some of the residents who were in a mosque at the time of the attack were not spared as the insurgents set them ablaze.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said mostly killed were those who could not immediately decipher that the disguised preachers were Boko Haram members on a deadly mission.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A nurse at the General Hospital, Biu, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said some injured persons were brought to the hospital from Kwajafa, some 35 kilometres away for treatment.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The medical worker added that some of the injured persons were treated in other health facilities in Kwajafa.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It will be recalled that Kwajafa, which is about 220 kilometres from Maiduguri, has witnessed two major Boko Haram attacks in the past.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Investigations revealed that past attacks forced people to flee the village but some of them returned after peace returned to the community.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Meanwhile, the Borno State Accountant-General, Hajiya Mairo Bunu, on Monday appealed to donor agencies to mobilise support for the rehabilitation of victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Bunu made the appeal when she presented some relief materials to Governor Kashim Shettima for the victims.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said the Boko Haram insurgency had resulted in mass destruction of infrastructure which might be difficult to rebuild without the support of the international community.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

Aboribo, SSANU accused the NUC of unilaterally expunging through a circular the aspect of the agreement on university demonstration staff schools.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Besides, the union regretted the failure of the government to pay the outstanding arrears of the earned allowances and most especially the political statements being made by government functionaries about the payment, which has put serious pressure on the leadership of the union at the national and branch level.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />SSANU also condemned the lackadaisical attitude of the Federal Government in implementing the 2009 agreement, despite its persistent call on the government and the Implementation Monitoring Committee for the full implementation and payment of the arrears of the earned allowance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The communiqué read, “SSANU called for the full implementation and renegotiation of the 2009 agreement to forestall the disruption of the present smooth academic activities in the university system. We view with very grave concern, the actions of some government agencies in collaboration with certain selfish vice-chancellors to obliterate the sanctity of the 2009 FGN/university-based unions’ agreement by unilaterally expunging through a circular from the NUC the aspect of the agreement on university demonstration staff schools.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“SSANU-NEC-in-session hereby demands the immediate withdrawal of the obnoxious circular. For the avoidance of doubt, if by April 28, 2015, the circular has not been withdrawn by the NUC, the union will take labour action against the Federal Government. We frown on the overbearing attitude and unnecessary roles of the NIC in this regard.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />SSANU also warned the NUC to stop its undue meddling and interference in the affairs of the universities, so as not to overheat the Nigerian university system.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />While demanding that the agreement should be implemented without further delay, the union criticized the continuous refusal of the Federal Government to renegotiate the said agreement “which is long overdue.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The NEC-in-session warns Federal Government on the dangers of its insensitive stand on the matter, saying it was capable of completely eroding the relative peace in our universities.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“SSANU therefore urged the Federal Government to put machinery in place for the renegotiation of this agreement without any further delay.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The union also warned against the victimization of its members and officers in various universities, and especially called for the reinstatement of 19 members of the union who were sacked at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The union commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and its foreign allies for the recapture of most areas occupied by the Boko Haram terrorists in the north-eastern part of the country. SSANU called on the Federal Government to continue to adequately equip them and review Nigeria foreign policies with its neighbouring countries.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Speaking on the 2015 general election, the union condemned the hate speeches and unnecessary political killings currently being experienced in the build up to the 2015 general elections. People have suffered a lot; Nigeria will be well again. Nigerians should not be discouraged.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Let us all believe that very soon, our better Nigeria will arrive. Nigerians must be positive in their thinking about the country; nothing will happen outside the will of God.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Samson, in his speech, said he was convinced that God was in charge of Nigeria, hence the general elections would be devoid of bloodbath.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He urged Nigerians to have the fear of God irrespective of political affiliation, tribe and religious belief, pointing out that people without the fear of God would not have peace of mind.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Odeleke said God had perfected what concerned the country, adding that the general elections would be peaceful.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “As regards the general elections, they are going to be peaceful, there will be no bloodshed. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) was absent.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Independent National Electoral Commission had shifted the polls earlier scheduled for February 28 and March 11.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President, during his last presidential media chat, said that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, never informed him of his decision to postpone the polls after he (Jega) received a letter from the National Security Adviser calling for six weeks postponement of the elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan, on Sunday, thanked Nigerians for showing interest in the electoral process and assured that there would be no cause to postpone the elections again.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President said, “Let me use this unique opportunity to thank Nigerians today for showing much interest in the electoral process and to re-assure Nigerians that elections will hold as scheduled by INEC . The presidential election and the National Assembly election on the 28th of this month, and the governorship and the state assembly election on 11th of next month.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The debate, which held in two batches, saw other presidential candidates promising alternative approaches to tackling corruption, the economy as well the problems in the oil, power, security and education sectors.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The four other candidates who debated with Jonathan in the second batch were those of the United Peoples Party, Chief Chekwas Okorie; United Democratic Party, Godson Okoye; Kowa Party, Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya; and the National Conscience Party, Martin Onovo.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Those who participated in the first batch included Tunde Anifowose-Kelani of the Action Alliance; Ganiyu Galadima of Allied Congress Party of Nigeria; Rafiu Salau of the Alliance for Democracy; Mani Ahmad of African Democratic Congress and Ayeni Adebayo of African Peoples Alliance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Others are Sam Eke of Citizens Popular Party and Ambrose Owuru of Hope Democratic Party.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan urged Nigerians to vote for him for the second term on account of his administration’s success in agriculture, power and infrastructural development.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that if he was re-elected, “Like we take GSM for granted, Nigerians will start taking power for granted.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Onovo of the NCP, who posited that corruption was at the root of every Nigerian problem, also promised that if elected, his administration “will increase the minimum wage by reducing the maximum wage.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said his administration would follow the laid down strategy of the party in its fight against corruption. The aerial bombardment started at the weekend and now the ground troops are moving in…”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Bama and Gwoza are believed to be the two surviving operational bases of the Boko Haram in the country since the commencement of the latest military offensive against the sect.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Our correspondent could not get the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Although the governors did not canvass for the use of Temporary Voter Cards, they maintained that people who do not have Permanent Voter Cards should be allowed to vote.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Akpabio said Nigerians should be grateful to the PDP for ensuring that the country had the longest span(16 years) of democracy.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “The continued quest of the PDP-led Federal Government for free, fair and credible elections is witnessed in President Goodluck Jonathan’s robust support through adequate and sustained funding as well as the free hand given to INEC to operate.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But surprisingly, in our own opinion, INEC appears ill-prepared for the 2015 elections. For example, at the time the polls were shifted due to security concerns, over 23 million registered voters had yet to collect their PVCs and you know there are some countries with populations of about just three million.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Twenty-three million would amount to disenfranchising more than five West African countries in their own elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It will be recalled that even the INEC chairman(Prof. Attahiru Jega) admitted on the floor of the Senate that over one million PVCs had yet to be printed in far away China.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“According to the INEC chairman, the postponement was a blessing in disguise. How then can Nigerians reconcile the purported readiness of INEC for the February 14 election with the testing of card readers more than a month after the postponement? More than three weeks after the elections have been shifted, they are then testing the card readers that would have been used. Given the failure rate of the card readers during the recent mock exercise, it is apparent that many Nigerians will be disenfranchised even when they are registered to vote.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We re-assert that on no account should any registered voter be disenfranchised for non-possession of PVC even when the person has a TVC when it is not due to one’s own personal fault; even when the card reader has rejected or refused to recognise the thumbprint or the battery is dead and there is no electricity in that area to charge it.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We don’t want anyone disenfranchised and we are pleading also that elections should not be shifted again because the impression is that we were not ready for elections even though we know that we would have won the elections if they had been allowed to hold.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Also, Imoke said prior to 2011, Jega was seen as a man of integrity and that was why he was appointed by Jonathan.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He, however, said recent happenings in INEC were beginning to prove otherwise.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Imoke said no one should be disenfranchised on account of the PVC or card reader.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “The facts are before us. The testing of card reader and its failure have not been addressed. PVCs remain unprinted as we speak. INEC has no right whatsoever to disenfranchise any Nigerian.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I will appreciate it if the media can focus on this issue. I will not want to go to a polling unit and be told that as a result of no fault of mine, my card was rejected. My picture is on my PVC, it looks like me and it is me but because the card reader cannot recognise my fingerprint, I will not be allowed to vote?<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“So for us, it is important that we understand democratic values and appreciate that the values of democracy rest squarely on equity and the right of every Nigerian to participate in the process of selecting their leaders.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jang, who is the chairman of a faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, said he had not been able to collect his PVC.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that it was ironic that INEC was insisting on the use of card readers when its chairman had said last year that the card readers would be tested before being used for major elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />While reading a message alongside Akpabio, he said, “I received a text message from someone this(Tuesday) morning and it reads, ‘During a meeting with a team from the United States last year, Jega had said card readers would not be used for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections because they were too crucial to be used for experiments.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“INEC said the card readers would be tested in by-elections but now INEC is insisting on using card readers for elections.
