<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>President of the National Industrial Court (NIC), Justice Babatunde Adejumo yesterday advised President Goodluck Jonathan, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to explore an amicable settlement of the dispute over Sanusi’s suspension from office.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Justice Adejumo gave the advice at the resumed hearing of the suit filed by Sanusi challenging his suspension from office by President Jonathan prior to the expiration of his tenure.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>It will be recalled that Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja had declined jurisdiction over the case and transferred it to the NIC after the former governor sued the FG and the IGP, seeking to restrain the defendants from arresting and prosecuting him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Parties were expected to argue their applications for stay of proceedings yesterday only for plaintiff’s lawyer, Kola Awodein (SAN) to inform the court of his intention to consult his client before taking any further steps in the case.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Awodein noted that between the last date and yesterday, some developments have occurred relating to the plaintiff to necessitate his lawyers taking further instructions from him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He applied for time to enable him consult with his client.<br/><br /><br/><br />Lawyers to the defendants, including Mike Ozekhome (SAN) did not object to Awodein’s application.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He acknowledged being informed, before the court’s proceedings, of the plaintiff lawyer’s desire for time to consult with his client.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Before adjourning, Justice Adejumo said he would adjourn for parties to seek ways of ensuring an amicable settlement in the case.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He said unlike any other conventional courts, his court was mandated to encourage disputing parties to ensure amicable settlement.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“I will strongly commend, by virtue of the provision of this court’s establishment Act, that parties seek amicable way of resolving this dispute.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“In industrial and employment relations, the court is not concerned about the consequence of its pronouncement on parties alone, but on the entire society.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“In consulting with their clients, counsel should know what to say to contribute to the effort to ensure amicable settlement,” Justice Adejumo said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He consequently adjourned to July 4 for mention. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>An upper Sharia Court judge in Borno State, Justice Alkali Goni Mukhtar has been retired by the state Judicial Service Commission (JSC), after he was found guilty of aiding in the criminal sale of a land in his court.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>One Buji Mustapha Magumeri had filed a petition against the judge over what he called Mukhtar’s unbecoming conduct on June 2, 2010.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The petition, addressed to the office of the state Chief Judge, Justice Kashim Zanna, accused Justice Mukhtar of involving in illicit acts that short-changed the real owner of the land in dispute when it was brought to his court.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Justice Zanna had on the June 3, 2010, referred the case to the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC), whose duty is to handle such complaints.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>After an investigation that lasted about four years, the committee found the judge wanting and recommended his sack to the JSC.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Justice Mukhtar was said to have been invited by the commission to defend himself, but he rather pleaded for leniency.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A ruling, contained in a statement by the JSC, signed by its secretary, Baba Goni Adam, at the end of the commission’s sitting on Wednesday, axed the embattled judge.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The Borno State JSC considered the report of the JPCC which investigated a petition against Alkali Goni Mukhtar, an Upper Sharia Court judge.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The commissioner accepted the report that the judge used his office to engage in a land transaction, unbecoming of the office of a judge. For this misconduct, the JSC has compulsorily retired Alkali Goni Mukhtar with effect from the 11th day of June, 2014,” the statement read.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

Every year 1.8m new entrants come into the job market. This is in addition to 5.3million that have accumulated over time. So we need to work harder and faster to create more jobs for our youths.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We are focusing on housing because this sector can significantly increase the number of jobs in addition to growing the economy. This sector will create jobs for builders, carpenters, plumbers, managers, interior decorators and so many jobs.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“This event is not for long grammar.
