He added that youths from the town had vowed that they would resist such practice henceforth.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to him, the people of Ife are demanding that Modakeke indigene who are farming on the such land should pay tribute.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, a politician from Ife debunked the claim, saying the land on which Modakeke people were farming belonged to Ile Ife and they should pay tribute on it.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also blamed the new crisis brewing among the two communities on Modakeke but he said that he hoped that the issues would be resolved quickly.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mr. Folasade Odoro, when contacted said that the command had deployed policemen in the area to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She added that normalcy had been restored to the area while calling on residents of the two towns to allow peace to reign.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “We are on top of the situation. Our men are there. We are monitoring situation there.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There was no killing. On Wednesay, they attacked Tesan Alede and Shaffa, in Hawul Local Government Areas.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They killed a retired police officer in Tasan Aledeh, gathered community members and told them to convert to Islam within 24 hours.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The insurgents had earlier attacked Debiro community in Biu where many buildings including some churches were burnt.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was learnt that a former Commander of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Maj. Gen. B.A Debiro, was among those displaced in the attack on Debiro which took place Saturday. The report could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A source, who confided in one of our correspondents, said the insurgents stormed the community in two hilux jeeps and 20 motorcyles with each of the bikes carrying three fighters.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />They were said to have moved straight to the resident of the District Head, Lawan Dauda Thlama, and ordered him to provide five young men for them to identify the homes of the over 2000 Christians in the community.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was learnt that village head acceded to the order of the insurgents under duress while the Christians who got wind of the incident fled into the bush for safety.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was stated that the insurgents embarked on the destruction of churches such as the EYN and the ECWA worship centres, the residence of the Pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church, and all the residences of the Christians for the whole night.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was stated that the traumatised people now had issues with feeding and accommodation and were crying to the Borno State Government for assistance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, the source said that two of the insurgents were arrested at Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State while three others were arrested at Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Efforts to get the comments of the Defence Headquarters spokesman, Maj.-Gen. I am also sure Rivers people are happy about that. The way Mr. Mbu was going, Rivers economy would have been completely destroyed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Fortunately for us, they took him away and brought you (Ogunsakin) and you restored calm. You tried to create a platform for all parties to have access to reach you. As you go, please, go with that same spirit. The police in Rivers State, should discharge their responsibility as it concerns the protection of lives and property.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Let me welcome the new commissioner of Police and say that if the Federal Government refuses, I will repeat what I said, when I was sworn in as the governor in 2007. I said if the Federal Government refused to provide legitimate source of livelihood for Nigerians in our state, Nigerians will provide for themselves illegitimate source of livelihood.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“That includes kidnapping, robbery, stealing by people who will hire or provide police or military uniforms. And that illegitimate source of livelihood becomes its own economy, which automatically frightens the legitimate economy,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Amaechi also advised the new commissioner of police (Bature) to ensure social justice rather than partisan politics, warning that the absence of social justice may breed resistance and breakdown of law and order in the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Now in the same manner, when it comes to security, as a former student leader, I understand that immediately the police become partisan in politics and do not provide security for everybody, other parties will be compelled to provide security for themselves.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I know this as a politician since 1987 when I joined politics. And, one thing about security is that, it is cash based. They will provide for themselves the means to which to protect themselves. The Nigeria Police is supposed to mingle and have the confidence of the Nigerian people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But, the moment it becomes the agent of the other party, then you are no longer the Nigerian Police. You automatically lose that title. You are coming into a situation where the right thing must be done according to social justice; the absence of it is what breeds crime and resistance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The only thing we ask you is social justice. If you ask any of the commissioners of police who served in Rivers State, I have never requested for favours because I don’t have the need for it. We believe in law and order. But, when you don’t keep law and order, what you are inviting and get is resistance.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“If you keep to social justice, believe me, you will be the friend of everybody. The Rivers State Government will continue to support you once that is kept. But if it is not kept, you can ask Mbu to confirm that when we found out that he was a card carrying member of PDP, we stopped funding the police and they were not too happy. INEC should be left to determine where to print its electoral materials to ensure the integrity of such materials.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />”Thirdly, asking the CBN Governor, an appointee of the President, to now oversee the ‘reform’ of the NSPMC, and the Governor’s promptitude in visiting INEC over the presidential directive, raise more questions. While the CBN is a part owner of the NSPMC, it is not INEC’s supervisory ministry and should not tamper with its duties,” it said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />APC said the bottom line is that INEC should be left alone to carry out its onerous duties without interference from any quarters whatsoever.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />”There should be a limit to the desperation of President Jonathan and his party to win the 2015 elections at all costs. But we are very, very mindful of the safety of the girls. We want to return them all alive to their parents. If they are killed in any rescue effort, then we have achieved nothing,” President Jonathan told the parents and community leaders at the meeting which was also attended by Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State and the Senate President, Senator David Mark.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President said that although he was yet to visit Chibok in the aftermath of the abductions, his heart was constantly with its traumatized parents and people, and his desire was to visit them when their daughters have been freed and they can receive him with smiling faces of joy, rather than with tears of anguish.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Our duty now is to take all relevant steps to recover our girls alive and our primary interest is getting them out as safely as possible. I will not want to say much, but we are doing everything humanly possible to get the girls out.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“This not the time for talking much. This is the time for action. We will get to the time that we will tell stories. We will get to the time that we will celebrate and I assure you that, by God’s grace, that time will come soon,” President Jonathan told them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Responding to appeals from the community leaders for more help in overcoming some of the challenges imposed on Chibok and neighbouring communities by the Boko Haram insurgency, the President said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Federal Medical Agencies will intensify their efforts to provide them with additional relief aid and assistance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also assured them that Chibok and other communities in the three North-Eastern States most affected by the Boko Haram insurgency will be the first beneficiaries of the Victims’ Support Fund, the Presidential Initiative for the North-East, the Safe Schools Initiative and other developmental programmes which the Federal Government is evolving to address the damage, losses, setbacks, economic and social dislocations occasioned by the Boko Haram insurgency.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We solicit your maximum cooperation. Let us work together. Evil can never overcome good.
