He added that with the gale of arrests, he was optimistic that the senator’s mother would soon regain freedom.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The police had earlier arrested four suspects. The latest was the statement yesterday accredited to the Deputy Director of Department of State Security, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, who described the #BringBackOurGirls campaign as a franchise.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“She made the comment in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists at the press briefing of the National Information Centre (NIC).</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“This is a dangerous and unprecedented attack because as is well known in security circles, the term ‘franchise’ is used to refer to inter-related terrorist cells. She is reported to have said that if indeed our movement was a protest group, it would not need to force members to register and wear tags.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Mrs. Ogar also affirmed ‘security forces know about all the activities of the group. We know that they have a bank account’,” the statement quoted the DSS spokeswoman as saying.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The statement quoted her further “We know that they visit prominent individuals to solicit funds; we know that they have split themselves into groups; we know that they want to simulate a protest march in Abuja to make it look like they went to Chibok”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>However, the protesters maintained that “There is a clear attempt to smear our work with a link of our work with Chibok and Sambisa forest. We are shocked that all we get from our security agencies is harassment, vilification, innuendoes and threats. Felix Omobude, who spoke on behalf of the body, said the church has been a major casualty of the horrendous terrorist attacks in Nigeria.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The PFN boss said, “We have lost at least 750 churches in the north to attacks by terrorists. Our worry of late is that churches that are making efforts to rebuild are facing difficulty in that part of the country to secure necessary permits.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We do not want to believe that there is deliberate effort to discriminate against the church, even though churches in the North have, over the years, experienced difficulty with obtaining necessary approvals for their buildings”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Omobude solicited for express approval of the applications by churches to rebuild their places of worship and schools for the sake of fairness and equity.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He also stressed the need for government to compensate the families of those killed by Boko Haram as many of them were currently passing through tough times.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Speaking on the 2015 elections, the clergyman urged political leaders to restrain themselves and shift their focus beyond the selfish interest of winning elections to assume mantle of leadership of the country.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The PFN president also condemned the abduction of female students in Chibok by Islamist terrorists and demanded their immediate release.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We call on the federal and state governments to increase their level of cooperation as it is a battle that can only be won when we are all united. We salute the courage of the Nigerian Army and enjoin them to rededicate themselves to this cause and expedite action in ensuring the safe return of the girls.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We challenge them to continue to stand as one, maintain unity of purpose and ensure that proper chain of command is maintained at all times. Second is for the army, in collaboration with our international allies, to secure their release and for the insurgents to voluntarily release the girls.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“If he actually said so, that means he has superior equipment to those of the government and its allies.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Besides, as a respectable statesman and a former President, I think he has unfettered access to the President to discuss this. I don’t think the pages of newspapers are the appropriate avenue to make the claims that he has access to the insurgents. I sincerely don’t understand this”, he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Omeri said surveillance and patrols by land and air of troops are still ongoing in the entire mission area of the North East and other parts of the federation to curtail the activities of terrorists and armed groups.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“There have been occasional encounters necessitating continous cordon and search in many locations”, he said</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“In the same vein, consultations and contacts are still on-going with partners who have offered to support Nigeria’s endeavours to resolve the issues on the abduction of the Chibok girls as well as terrorism generally.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Against this backdrop, the Nigerian military is in discussion with its counterpart from Sri Lanka in addition to other countries”, the NOA DG said.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

These are some of the key findings from the Governance Snap Poll conducted in week of April 28, 2014.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“These results represent the fourth in the 2014 monthly series of governance polls conducted by NOIPolls to gauge the opinions and perceptions of Nigerians regarding the approval rating of the President, the performance of the President on key elements of his transformation agenda, and the state of power supply in the country.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Analyzing the President’s performance from the geo-political zone standpoint reveals that the South-East zone 69 percent: 13 percent+56 percent has the highest proportion of respondents that approve of the President’s job performance; the North-West zone 52 percent: 42 percent+10 percent accounts for the largest percentage of respondents that disapprove of the president’s job performance while the South-South zone 18 percent has the highest proportion of Nigerians who are neutral.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Monthly trend analysis of the President’s approval rating reveals fluctuations in the President’s approval rating over the four-month period. Results from January reveal a downward trend and current results show a 4-point decline in the proportion that approved of the President’s performance. All personnel on duty were safely evacuated, authorities said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The Kaduna airport has been temporary closed down following a minor fire incident at the control tower, which has since been brought under control with no casualties,” said Datti.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Meanwhile, a mobile control tower has been ordered to be deployed from Abuja so that the airport would be able to reopen Monday evening.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A staff of the airport said the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault. He is also believed to have more than a passing interest in who succeeds his protégé, incumbent Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos, whose tenure comes to an end in May 2015.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Akin-Johnson noted that in spite of the ideals of the APC as a mega party, Tinubu had refused to drop the habit of imposition of candidates.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to him, “There is no doubt about the fact that Tinubu has settled for Mr. Akin Ambode as his governorship candidate in 2015. Why no one is opposed to the person of Ambode aspiring to the office of the governor, we take exception to his imposition. If anything, he must be a product of a credible process in the emerging new Lagos.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The sentiment of playing the religion and zonal card as if the two factors have consciously been part of the Lagos political system will be counter-productive. In fact, Tinubu’s enemies cannot wait to see him fail since he has chosen to arrogate to himself the power of life and death as if there was no Lagos before him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The idea of zoning is well understood. The incident happened Monday night, according to the two papers, adding that the Nigerian culprit has been arrested.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Oshifo, 34, died while his friend Kelvin, 32, received grievous injuries in his hand and abdomen at Neb Sarai in south Delhi on Monday night, police said. The two got into a scuffle with another Nigerian, Henry, while consuming alcohol, a police officer said. Henry attacked them with a knife.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The two bleeding Nigerians got away from the house but fainted a little distance away. Others at the birthday fled in panic. The two Nigerians were taken to a hospital where Oshifo was declared dead and Kelvin was admitted. The attacker, Henry, was arrested on Tuesday morning.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Hindu quoting the police said the stabbed Nigerians were found, blood soaked on the main road in the Krishna Park area of Khanpur around 2 a.m. .</div><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>They had blood oozing from their bodies because of stab wounds and were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where Oshifo succumbed to his injuries. Kelvin is admitted to AIIMS trauma centre in a serious condition.</div><br /><br/><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'><br/> </div><br /><br/><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>Explaining the sequence of events, a police officer said: “Kelvin told us that he and Oshifo were attending a party at a friend’s apartment in the Krishna Park area, where an argument turned into a violent confrontation.
