<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div id='singlentry' class='left-justified' readability='54'><br/><br /><p>21 suspected members of the Boko Haram sect arrested in Enugu State last Wednesday have been transferred to the Force Headqaurters, Abuja for further questioning by the State Police Command.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The National Task Force (NATFORCE) had last Wednesday arrested the suspects who were said to be travelling to Kano with several military uniforms concealed inside a luxurious bus, at Amala in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu state.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The suspects, it was learnt, who left Aba, Abia state were intercepted at the wee hours of Wednesday morning at a boarder community in Enugu state leading to the northern parts of the country.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The command spokesman, DSP Ebere Amaraizu while confirming their movement to Abuja however dismissed reports that they were Boko Haram members.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Those people have been transferred to Abuja for further screening. They are no longer with us. But the command wishes to state that those people are not Boko Haram, this cannot be possible. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p>At least 15,000 people have been displaced in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State following recent attacks on rural communities by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Reports said that some of the victims are taking refuge at a primary school, while other are at the Divisional Police Station in Gwantu, the headquarters of the local council.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Meanwhile, 110 corpses of those who were killed during the incident were given mass burial yesterday by the council authorities as relatives who were able to identify the corpses of their loved ones collected them for a decent burial.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Over 167 people were killed in the attacks which started on Monday night to Tuesday leading to the sacking of over 20 villages in the area.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>A councillor representing Gwantu ward, Hon. Shehu Ajetu, told Thisday in a telephone interview that the villagers are very scared of staying in their communities and are fleeing into the local government headquarters where there is security.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Ajetu added that more than 15,000 people had relocated to the refugee camps at the primary school and the divisional police station in Gwantu.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“What is happening is that our people in the villages are running away from their homes because they don’t know what would happen. So even people in villages who were not attacked were running away because of fear of the unknown.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Those who were attacked have no homes again because their houses were burnt. Everybody is running to the refugee camp and at the moment, we have over 15, 000 people at the primary school and the divisional police station.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“There are thousands of others who fled to Akwanga in Nasarawa State because their villages are closer to Akwanga. They are being camped in a primary school that is being constructed. We also have hundreds of others who fled to other places in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The situation is calm now, but we have very serious challenges of feeding and accommodating this large number of people.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The 24-hour curfew cannot be enforced in the villages because it is just not possible for security agencies to be in all the villages within the locality, I think that is the more reason why everybody is running to where they can be protected,” he said.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'>Oil-rich Nigeria said on Thursday that India has replaced the United States as its largest crude importer, accounting for more than a quarter of its daily output.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />"The US, which had traditionally taken the bulk of Nigeria's crude, has in recent months drastically reduced its demand, which now stands at about 250,000 barrels per day," the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said in a statement.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />"India, however, now purchases some 30 percent of Nigeria's daily crude production which currently hovers around 2.5 million barrels," it said, quoting senior official Tim Okon.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The state-run NNPC said after India, China and Malaysia were also ahead of the United States, and that Nigeria, which is Africa's largest oil producer, would supply to customers around the world.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />"Asia is important and in that respect we have regards for all markets; the important thing is to make sure that you are selling the products that you have and you do not ignore any market", said Okon.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Nigeria has been been facing dwindling crude oil sales to the United States as shale oil and gas production there has increased, reducing demand for imports.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />(AFP)<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p><a href="http://ift.tt/1hjYcJ0"><img alt="Power-outage" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-184991" height="300" src="http://ift.tt/1imshdt" width="267"/> </a> </p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Federal Government said over 30 million Nigerians are yet to be connected with the national electricity grid.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo who disclosed this while declaring open, the Nigerian Renewable Energy Private Equity seminar in Abuja, Wednesday, said most of the affected Nigerians are in the rural areas.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Speaking at the seminar organised to sensitise investors, fund managers, policy makers and other stakeholders on the need to support the development of renewable energy, the minister called for more private sector financing to improve electricity supply.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Amb. Godknows Igali,the minister noted that the training is meant to sensitise and mobilise stakeholders to initiate an equity fund through private sector participation to promote sustainable energy.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Citing the United Nations Report on access to power he said, “there is still a wide gap in power supply. Sadly for us here in Nigeria, we still have about 30 million people that do not have access to power at all.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“This is the reason the federal government is focusing on Renewable Energy (RE) particularly off-grid solar and small hydros that would not need to depend on the national grid,” Nebo said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Nebo disclosed further that government is now rounding up on financing process for the 3050mw Mambilla hydro dam and would soon be flagged off by President Goodluck Jonathan.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He said, “there are 264 hydro dams which have not been fully utilised, so in this first quarter, government did a study and is fixing the turbines and other components in 12 of them to increase their generation capacity.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>In his remarks, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said there is a need to supplement mainstream power generation through the harnessing of renewable energy.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Okonjo-Iweala who was represented by Hajia Lare Shuaibu, said that the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Plc (NBET) has received proposals and enquiries on developing the vast renewable energy in Nigeria. “Giving the national resources of sunlight, wind, biomass among others, we need to start thinking of how they can be harnessed for the power sector,” she added.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Chief Executive Officer, Henshaw Capital Partners, Barbara James said in his remarks that business financing through banking lending and capital market lending at a percentage of the GDP is still relatively low, about 20 percent unlike in other advanced countries like Brazil.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Barbara noted that the seminar is to prepare the grounds for an intended development of a Private Equity and Venture Capital where resources would be pooled to develop a sustainable renewable energy for the country.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>She stated that private equity is an ecosystem that involves investors, fund managers, entrepreneurs, and the policy makers adding that, “We work with these different groups in the ecosystem to raise their awareness, engage them in pre-investment and post investment activities in the sector.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>In his goodwill message, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Sentor Philip Aduda said despite the vast renewable energy sources, Nigeria still experience acute inadequate power supply.<br/><br /><br/><br />He maintained that the Renewable Energy section is a new frontier that needs to be developed to boost supply.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“This is a new frontier in the sector, so it needs political will and financiers for this. We must set up codes and standards to create solar power, solar PV among others and this is up to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to hasten it.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Meanwhile the Chairman, House Committee on Power, Hon. Patrick Ikhariale said, “I am happy that aside the conventional energy generation, we are now joining other country to talk of renewable energy. As legislators, we have to look at its legal impediments of developing renewable energy which we will continuously give our assurance.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“If we can fix the power problem, we must have fixed more than 60 to 70 percent of the problem we have in Nigeria.
