This is most unfortunate given the number of people that lost their lives in their bid to offer prayers to their Almighty in the usual Friday worship at the mosque.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“On behalf of the entire Christians community under the auspices of CAN, I wish to commiserate with the families of the victims especially those who lost their lives in the attack. This attack on the people of Kano is an attack on all Nigerians and must be addressed as such; this is the time for all to rise up and act, may God help us all as we make this strong efforts at curbing terrorism from our land.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to him, news of the death of one soul by any means, whether bomb blast, accident, illness of any form of attack was enough to sadden any human being adding, “but to learn almost on a daily basis about the death of hundreds of the lives of fellow compatriot is tormenting.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Oritsejafor appealed to all Nigerians especially residents of the areas mostly prone to the attacks not to give in or succumb to the antics of the insurgents, because “this is the time to remain fearless in the face of terror.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The CAN President said, “We cannot continue to allow the terrorists to continue to intimidate us in our land because we have no other place to call our own, we must cooperate with relevant authorities in addition to being extra vigilant, to defeat this terror; they are human beings and can be defeated, but we have to be united. Nigerians must be united both in prayers and in other practical steps, to defeat terror.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I want to use this medium to reemphasise the need for all faithfuls, especially during their hours of worship to be watchful to forestall any further attack on their places of worship, this is a clarion call. It is equipped with a 20 mm M197 3-barreled Gatling cannon in the A/A49E-7 turret (750 rounds ammo capacity).<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But America stated that it had provided and approved sales of military equipment to Nigerian armed forces.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The US State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, stated this in Washington on Wednesday while responding to questions from journalists on the allegations made by the Nigerian ambassador to US, Prof. Adebowale Adefuye.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Adefuye had told members of the Council on Foreign Relations on Monday that the US refused to sell lethal arms to Nigeria, adding that America was not doing enough to assist in combating the Boko Haram insurgency in North-Eastern part of the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The ambassador said the US was letting down an old ally in its hour of need, and that Nigerians and the FG feel abandoned.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “The U.S. government has up till today refused to grant Nigeria’s request to purchase lethal equipment that would have brought down the terrorists within a short time on the basis of the allegations that Nigeria’s defence forces have been violating human rights of Boko Haram suspects when captured or arrested.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We find it difficult to understand how and why, in spite of the U.S. presence in Nigeria, with their sophisticated military technology, Boko Haram should be expanding and becoming more deadly.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Adefuye said that Washington had refused Nigeria’s requests to buy heavy weaponry because of allegations the defense forces have violated the human rights of Boko Haram suspects.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said allegations of human rights abuses by the military were “rumors, hearsays and exaggerated accounts put about by rivals of President Goodluck Jonathan and rights groups.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But Psaki in reaction to Adefuye’s allegations, claimed there had been “a great deal” of US aid to Nigeria.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said there were ongoing concerns about the Nigerian military’s protection of civilians when conducting military operations, adding that these had been discussed with the Nigerian authorities.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

We are going to maintain peace throughout the protest.<br/><br /><br/><br />“We just want to show to all Ekiti people that we stand by the result of the last election and our mandate.<br/><br /><br/><br />“If the House of Assembly wants us to come and dialogue with them, we are ready,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Patrick appealed to the lawmakers “in the interest of all Ekiti people to stay clear of any move to impeach the governor.”<br/><br /><br/><br />He said what the state desired now was peace, adding that all stakeholders should join hands with the governor to ensure peace.<br/><br /><br/><br />The treasurer of the union, said “nobody should tamper with the mandate of the people be you, E-11 or anybody that may want to truncate that election.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that the protest would continue until the lawmakers embrace peace and agree to work with the governor to move Ekiti forward.<br/><br /><br/><br />The assembly had on Thursday at a press briefing denied collecting money to remove the governor.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. The aggregate case load of Ebola Virus Disease could exceed 20,000 over the course of this emergency. This roadmap assumes that in many areas of intense transmission, the actual number of cases may be two-four fold higher than that cases that are currently reported.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The deadly outbreak that began in Guinea in March and has spread to neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone as well as to Nigeria requires a massive and coordinated international response.”<br/><br /><br/><br />The United Nations agency called on health authorities in affected capital cities to intensify surveillance so as to stop the exponential transmission of the disease.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Response activities must be adapted in areas of very intense transmission and particular attention must be given to stopping transmission in capital cities and major ports, thereby facilitating the larger response and relief effort.”<br/><br /><br/><br />Meanwhile, UN health agencies are working on a roadmap which would be inaugurated in September to stop the transmission of the disease in affected countries within six to nine months.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The road map works towards the establishment of more treatment centres, provision of more personal protective equipment, disinfectants and body bags for health workers in affected countries.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

He was fully conscious and gave us his clinical history and told us he is a Senior Diplomat from Liberia. Laboratory investigations confirmed malaria whilst other test for HIV, Hepatitis B&C were negative. He was admitted and treatment commenced.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, due to the fact that he was not responding to treatment but rather was developing haemorrhagic symptoms we further questioned him. WE REFUSED FOR HIM TO BE LET OUT OF THE HOSPITAL IN SPITE OF INTENSE PRESSURE, AS WE WERE TOLD THAT HE WAS A SENIOR ECOWAS OFFICIAL AND HAD AN IMPORTANT ROLE TO PLAY AT THE ECOWAS CONVENTION IN CALABAR, CROSS RIVER STATE.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />4. The initial test results from LUTH laboratory indicated a signal of possible EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE, but required confirmation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />5. We then took the further step of reaching out to Senior Officials in the office of the Secretary of Health of the United States of America who promptly assisted us with contacts at the centres for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organisation Regional Laboratory Centre in Senegal.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />6. Working jointly with the State, Federal Agencies and International Agencies, we were able to obtain confirmation of EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE (ZAIRE STRAIN), (W.H.O. Regional Center Lab-Senegal/Redeemes lab/LUTH Laboratory)<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />7. The gentleman subsequently died on Friday at a 6.50 (25th July, 2014)<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />8. All agencies were promptly notified and in consultation with W.H.O, Regional EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE Centre in Conakry, Guinea and Best Practices, the following was commenced:<br/><br /><br/><br />a. Orderly temporarily shut down of the hospital with immediate evacuation of in house patients<br/><br /><br/><br />b. The appropriate professional removal of the body and its incineration under W.H.O. guidelines, witnessed by all appropriate agencies.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />9. Having concluded the above, it is now appropriate to give this press release in the interest of our patient, staff, the general public and the nation at large.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />10. In keeping with W.H.O, guidelines, hospital is shut down briefly as full decontamination exercise is currently in progress W.H.O. Guidelines<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In conclusion, working with the STATE, FEDERAL AND INTERNATIONAL AGENCIES, we were able to identify and confirm the diagnosis of the EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE. <script type="text/javascript"> <script size='468x60' src='http://srvpub.com/adServe/banners?tid=22528_31474_5' type='text/javascript'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> google_ad_client = "ca-pub-6630608044863529"; google_ad_slot = "4870332095"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; </script> <script src='//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js' type='text/javascript'> </script> <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br/><br /><br/><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1v9va9p" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="350" src="http://ift.tt/1v9va9p" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Lagos State Chapter, has urged Nigerians to always include fruits and vegetables in their diets to boost their immune system to fight Ebola Virus.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Dr Abimbola Ajayi, the Chairperson of the society, made the appeal at the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week and inauguration of the Lagos State chapter on Friday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ajayi said that the virus attacked the immune system which provided defence to the human body.<br/><br /><br/><br />“Since there is no known cure presently for the disease, the goal of nutrition care therefore, is to protect and boost the immunity among other care provided for affected persons.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“People must ensure that they take foods that are high antioxidants, majorly foods rich in vitamins and minerals in their daily meals.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Take yellow fruits, red fruits and vegetables to boost immunity and fight Ebola Virus in the country,’’ she said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ajayi also decried the low breastfeeding practices and the use of inappropriate complementary foods.<br/><br /><br/><br />According to her, the breastfeeding rate in Nigeria is 17 per cent and it is unacceptable.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The low breastfeeding rate in our country has contributed to the high rate of malnourished, under-weight, stunted and wasted children as well as high rate of under-five mortality.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Exclusive breastfeeding reduces 13 per cent of all under-five deaths, thereby helping us to achieve Millennium Development Goal one and four.<br/><br /><br/><br />“Researches have also proven that exclusive breastfeeding increases the chances of a child`s survival, physical and brain development,’’ she said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Also speaking, Prof. Ngozi Nnam, the National President of the Society, said that exclusive breastfeeding would make a child grow into a healthy adult.<br/><br /><br/><br />Nnam, who was represented by Dr Bartholomew Brai, the Chairman, Scientific and Technical Committee of NSN, said there was the need for collective efforts to encourage and promote exclusive breast feeding.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We need the support of governments, relations, families and the community to promote exclusivebreast feeding to achieve high breastfeeding rate.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Breast milk is the ideal food for newborns and infants and we need to raise awareness on the importance of right nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life.’’ (NAN)<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

The militants released three of them who were Muslims and beheaded a Christian.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Local police said the body of the victim was found in the forest on Friday.
