I also heard that Chibok is still under attack. I heard that the military and the Civilians JTF are battling them. And I pray that they win this fight so that my community will be safe again. Many villagers have escaped the area while I heard many houses have been touched. I also heard that some people were killed but for now I don’t know the number of people that had died,” Tsambido explained.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He however expressed optimism and hope that the situation would be settled since the military and the Civilian JTF are ready to battle the sect members, noting that “We pray that the military and the Civilian JTF gain an upper hand on the insurgency and win the battle. The victorious Civilian JTF members displayed the heads of their victims as the returned to Biu amid fanfare.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A member of the Civilian JTF, Umar Hassan who confirmed the incident revealed that, “we beheaded the insurgents after the shoot out which lasted for about two hours and took their heads to Biu to show the people that the Boko Haram insurgents are human and not beasts and so, people should not fear them but instead, join hands with us and security operatives to ensure that the sect members who are enemies of Islam and the people of Nigerians are defeated.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Umar further said that when his members heard that the insurgents went to attack Sabon Gari, where people were just returning to their homes after three months of exile as internally displaced persons in various camps across the state, they moved in quickly to foil their action pointing out that troops had however arrived the area before them, hence both groups joined hands to defeat them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“After the insurgents were repelled, they headed towards Mandafuma in Biu local government and took the route to Gur village in an attempt to escape, but again the military and our members ambushed them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They were engaged in fierce battle with the soldiers and 41 of them were killed, 1 am alive, no soldier was killed in the ambush. After they were killed we cut off their heads and took them. The more help they get, the less chance there is they get sick.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He urged the world to do more to help deal with the virus, which is thought to have killed more than 2,200 out of 4,200 people who have been infected in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal. Experts say the outbreak is out of control.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It's a global problem and it needs global level leadership so [Barack] Obama and [David] Cameron ... need to show some more leadership on this issue,” Mr Pooley said, stressing he was grateful to the Prime Minister for helping to bring him back to the UK for treatment.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Sierra Leone needs lots of international health-care workers working with big NGOs like MSF [Doctors Without Borders] and Red Cross. All of that needs to be increased.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr Pooley’s mother, Jackie, said it “would be his choice” whether he went back to Sierra Leone.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We would want him to go back, not as an individual but with an organisation of some kind so he's got the backing. Obviously in a way we don't want [him] to, but I can see I would feel very proud of him if he decided he was going to, because he knows what it is going to be like,” she said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr Pooley said when he first started work in the hospital in Kenema, Sierra Leone, the wards were “pretty grim -- corpses, blood, the place was really dirty, people just dying in quite unpleasant ways”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There were not enough materials, there was no running water, no sheets or towels to clean a patient with. They might be incontinent, they are often confused, so you can imagine, with diarrhoea and vomiting, patients get in horrible condition,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“When I first started there was not a thing that you could use to help them. You'd just have to improvise, find a way of cleaning them and try and find something to cover them with.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr Pooley said he then developed a sore throat, aches and started feeling “pretty rough”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I went to sleep and then later when it was dark I woke to [see] Ian Crozier, a wonderful doctor who is working with the World Health Organisation, out there. I woke to his voice and his voice was muffled, and when I saw he was wearing PPE [protective clothing] I knew it was bad news,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“He was saying to me the kind of stuff I said to patients myself loads and only ever half believed. He was saying to me 'you are young, you are strong, you are going to be fine' – and it's amazing how that can reassure you.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Telling mum and dad about having ebola was just horrible. It was definitely the worst thing of it all.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“My fear of the symptoms was perhaps worse than the fear of the death. Working in the hospital, seeing the way people die. Our correspondent learnt that they were rounded up on Sunday, June 22, at the Ile Zik area on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was further gathered that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off to the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, who directed men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, led by SP Abba Kyari, to go after them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Our correspondent learnt that the gang had earlier escaped arrest during a robbery operation involving a trailer of iron rods valued at N80m.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />From their confessions, it was gathered that other operations of the gang included robbing a trailer load of rice at Oju-Elegba area worth N4.5m and that of a tanker carrying engine oil worth N11m.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, they were arrested during the Ile Zik area operation, which was said to be their fourth operation, and involving about N8m.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The suspects confessed to the police that George, before the operations, had promised to provide them with police uniforms, which he did.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The 34-year-old George from Otupko, Benue State, who is also said to be the gang leader, confessed that he lied to other members of the gang that he was a policeman.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />George, whose nickname is Mopol, added that he had bought the Mobile Police uniforms from a market and given them to his gang members.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “This was not the first time we would use police uniforms for robbery. In 2013, I was arrested by the police and charged to court. I was remanded for some time, but my family came and I was released on bail. Later, the court discharged me for want of evidence.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“While in remand at the Kirikiri Prisons, I met Sam (Orgah). When I came out of prisons, a friend of mine called Benjamin invited me again for another job. I was asked to escort a truck of engine oil from Apapa to Mushin, because they still regarded me as a policeman. They paid me N5,000 when they offloaded.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />George, who is married with children and lived in Olorunshobare Street, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos confessed that he had also partaken in robbery operations on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />However, 33-year-old Orgah also from Otukpo, Benue State, in his own confession, said he had earlier been arrested for armed robbery in 2011, and had come out of prison in 2013. He added that he used to rob cars in the Epe area, and was making use of a locally-made gun purchased from one Suleiman.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />For Oliseh, who hails from Amai, Delta State, he met George only three weeks before their arrest when the latter invited him for the N8m robbery in Ile Zik area.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Thirty-three-year-old Friday, who is from Jessey, Delta State, and worked at a Shipping company in Apapa Wharf, said he met George three months ago at Iyana -Oba where they became friends.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I have never gone on an operation with Mopol before. He only invited me to come with him to collect money. I did not know it was robbery,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed that the gang members were arrested during a robbery operation where they had worn a T-shirt with a ‘Mopol’ inscription.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said, “They are not policemen. They were arrested during a robbery operation in a T-shirt with an inscription, ‘Mopol’. The cards found in his luggage are 68 Citi Interswitch Master cards and 39 Citi Interswitch Visa cards”, Hamza stated.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Following his arrest, Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The suspect, an indigene of Kwara State who lives in Surulere, Lagos, told investigators that he was taking the cards to a friend in Turkey. He has an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) certificate from Kwara State Polytechnic.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“My friend in Turkey called me that I should help to send the cards to him in Istanbul, Turkey. When I collected the cards in Lagos, I kept them in my bag but, during search, the officer saw the cards and took me in for interrogation.
