<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1uV6ceB" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="163" src="http://ift.tt/1uV6ceB" width="320"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />One more suspect has been arrested in connection with the abduction of Florentina, mother of Senator Emmanuel Paulker, police authorities have said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The arrest has increased the number of suspects arrested in connection with the crime to five.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The elderly woman was abducted last Wednesday by unknown gunmen at her residence in Opolo-Epie, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Hilary Opara, said the suspect was arrested on Friday. He added that with the gale of arrests, he was optimistic that the 90-year-old woman would soon regain freedom.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The police had earlier arrested four suspects. One was arrested on the day of abduction, while three were arrested last Wednesday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was learnt that some of the suspects had confessed to the crime and were helping security agencies to track the whereabouts of the woman.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The State Security Adviser, Lt. Col. Benard Kenebai (retd.), had in a statement in Yenagoa confirmed that the urgent response of the security agencies led to the arrest of the suspects.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Kenebai, on behalf of the state government, assured security agencies of the required support in their efforts to free the woman and apprehend other suspects.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“One of the prime suspects was arrested within minutes of the distress call and three others were arrested less than six hours later. They have all made very useful statements to the Police and efforts are on to ensure the prompt and successful release of the victim,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

We had already ruled out the possibilities of floods this year partly because of the late arrival of the rains.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But we were shocked when the rains came down heavy on Thursday. After a short interval, it continued till Saturday, leading to flooding in the city,’’ Ngodda said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Malama Falmata Maina, a resident of Simari, said she had to evacuate her two children to a nearby school after the flood took over her house on Saturday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We thought that the rain will stop after falling on Thursday and Friday. But it started again today in the morning and in a short while the whole area was flooded,” Maina said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />she said that some of her neighbors assisted her in packing her belongings out of the house after the area was flooded.<br/><br /><br/><br />Alhaji Mohamed Ibrahim, an official of the Borno State Environment Protection Agency, blamed the flooding on blocked drains.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ibrahim said the agency had evacuated refuse in drainage channels in anticipation of the flood.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He lamented, however, that the people continued to throw refuse into the channels soon after the evaluation.<br/><br /><br/><br />“We embarked on drainage evaluation early in the year to avoid blockage. Unfortunately, the people started dumping refuse into the channels soon after the exercise,” he said.\<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He advised the residents to stop dumping refuse into drainage channels to prevent future flooding. David Rodriguez.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The source said that the US authorities could send in troops and equipment from the US Drone Base in Niger, a neighbouring country, the Gulf of Guinea, and other bases in Africa.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The source said that the Africom Command established to deal with such issues on behalf of the US would deploy the personnel, additional equipment required for the sensitive operation could come from the homeland.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The President waited for so long; now he wants results; you know that there are problems within us; this is a difficult operation; you need equipment.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“You think that the Americans are coming in next week? <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p><a href="http://ift.tt/1jbnsCV" rel="attachment wp-att-168876"><img alt="lawjustice" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-168876" height="270" src="http://ift.tt/KbWY8q" width="300"/> </a> </p><br /><br/><br /><p>Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Lokoja, Kogi State stunned all present at the court wwhen he granted bail to the former Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area of the state, Enesi Jimoh, who had earlier been convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment without an option of fine by him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Jimoh who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC was found guilty by Justice Ekwo on November 13, 2013 of converting N7 million belonging to the Council for personal use.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He was arraigned by the EFCC alongside one Samuel Abiodun Ojo, a Commissioner for Agriculture in March 31, 2010, who was however discharged by the court after a no case submission filed by his counsel in June, 2012.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Upon his conviction, the former council boss, through his counsel Olu Agunbiade, filed an appeal seeking a review of his conviction.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Agunbiade then wrote to the prison authorities in Koton-Karfe demanding the health status of the accused person. On the strength of that letter, the prison authorities took the convict to a specialist hospital where he was allegedly diagnosed with lung cancer.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Agunbiade also presented to the court a letter from the prison authorities, stating that the hospital did not have facilities to treat lung cancer. On the strength of these letters, the counsel prayed the court to grant his client bail on health grounds.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>But counsel to EFCC, Wahab Shittu vehemently opposed the application on the grounds that it would be tantamount to throwing the prison gate open to convicted persons who would want to use health issues to escape serving jail terms. Wahab also told the court that the presumption of innocence was no longer available to the convict having been convicted and sentenced.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>While dismissing the application as incompetent, Shittu assured that the state would give adequate medical attention to the convict even if it means sending him abroad for treatment.</p><br /><br/><br /><align><ins class='adsbygoogle' data-ad-client='ca-pub-0909255462614293' data-ad-slot='7578597399'> </ins> </align><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>
