The United States Government has expressed deep concern over the welfare of the female students abducted recently from their schools in Borno state and also the killing of over 60 residents of the state by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, urging the Federal Government to bring the perpetrators of the act to justice.
In a statement issued by its Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, the US Government expressed dissatisfaction at the killing of civilians and the abduction of young females from schools.
“The U.S. condemns in the strongest terms the brutal attack on the town of Konduga, Borno State, on Feb. 11.
“The U.S. offers its sincere sympathy to the families of scores of murdered civilians and abducted students.
“We are deeply concerned for the welfare of the young women currently being held against their will.
“We, therefore, urge the government of Nigeria to investigate this attack, ensure all persons abducted are safely returned to their families, and bring the perpetrators to justice, as soon as possible,” it said.
The statement added that the US was committed to supporting northern Nigeria in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
