A group, Ekiti Youth Emancipation Movement, has accused the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti and Osun states, Ayodele Fayose and Iyiola Omisore respectively of plotting to import Niger-Delta militants as poll monitors.

In a statement, on Tuesday, in Ado Ekiti, the group’s President, Taiwo Olatunji, alleged that the two politicians had already succeeded in registering spurious groups as monitors in the June 21, 2014, governorship election in Ekiti State.

It said, “These poll monitors, we gathered, had already been registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission. These Fayose and Omisore thugs masked as poll monitors would then be deployed to all polling units with cloned voters’ cards on election day with the mandate to destroy ballot boxes and papers wherever the All Progressives Congress is leading in the polls. The PDP is feverishly worried that Fayemi will record a sweeping victory in the election hence its plan to cause a stalemate.”

However, the Director of Media and Publicity, Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan, described the allegation as untrue.

He said, “Omisore has no reason to come to Ekiti on the day of election to do anything. And we want to make it clear that we don’t have interaction with the Niger Delta people, so, this is a lie.”
