Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said on Sunday that he had become a jobless man.
The ex-minister stated this in Lagos at the launch of a book, "Are we the Turning Point Generation?" authored by an entrepreneur, Chude Jideonwo.
When the compeer of the event, Ali Baba urged him to buy a copy of the book for N250,000, Abdullahi said '' I am now jobless and cannot buy 10 books at 250,000 each."
He, however, bought a copy at an undisclosed amount.
President Goodluck Jonathan removed Abdullahi in March this year and replaced him with Dr. Tamuno Danagogo.
In his speech at the event chaired by former World Bank Vice President, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Abdullahi chided the author and other social media activists for not holding his successor accountable as they did to him when he was a minister.
He said, "I am surprised that you have not attacked the man that succeeded me in office on Twitter and Facebook as you always did when I was minister. That means you either loved me, or found faults in me or that I participated too much on social media and you pounced on me. It's strange that you have not pounced on my successor," he said.
The ex-minister also urged youths to shun unnecessary bickering on social media but take action that would turn the society around for the better.
In the same vein, Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, urged more youths to participate actively in politics.
"You can contest elections to either be a House of Representatives member, a senator, a governor or the president. It is high time youths explore their potential and vie for political offices, not just writing books and having discourse on social media," she said.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, at the event also pleaded with the youths to shun extravagance and hold their leaders accountable.
