A philanthropist, Chris Baywood-Ibe, President/CEO of Baywood Continental Limited, has blessed his state handsomely with an 8.5 kilometre road, modern classroom block and church auditorium in Enugu State.
The new projects unveiled by President Goodluck Jonathan was celebrated in the state, with a service at the Cathedral Church of St Mark Anglican Communion, presided over by Dr. Amos Madu, Archbishop Province of Enugu and Bishop of Oji-River Diocese.
In his sermon, Bishop of the Awgu/Aninri diocese, Dr. Emmanuel Ugwu advised the congregation to emulate the example of Baywood-Ibe, as it is more blessed to give than to receive. He thanked the donor for single-handedly building the 8.5km road, which had long been abandoned by successive administrations in the state.
The diocese used the occasion to honour the multi-millionaire philanthropist and his wife with the titles of Father of eminence and Mother of eminence respectively. The Awgu traditional rulers’ council also thanked the donor and present him with an award to show the appreciation of the community.
President Jonathan was represented by the Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mr. Ezekiel Adeniji. While unveiling the road, Adeniji said as a professional he had first taken the pains to inspect the road to assess its quality.
The FERMA boss affirmed that the road was of a high standard with culverts for drainage control. He thanked Baywood-Ibe for his kind gesture.
Dignitaries present at the event were former Minister of Petroleum Odein Ajumogobia; DG Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Ikem Odumodu; Senator Annie Okonkwo; Air Vice-Marshall Christian Chukwu; Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe; and PDP Chairman Rivers State, Mr. Felix Obuah.
