The embattled chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bamanga Tukur has rubished reporthe has resigned his position ahead of the National Working Committee meeting, where members of the party against his presidency are expected to pass a vote of no confidence.
He however made a surprise appearance at the party’s Board of Trustees meeting in Abuja, Wednesday, saying he has not resigned his position.
Alhaji Tukur who walked into the Banquet hall of the Presidential villa at about 7:50 said he was not a sort of person that would resign in secret.
The PDP chairman who walked in with former chairman of the party, Vincent Ogbulafor told state House Correspondents that the rumour of his resignation was not true.
“I have not resigned. I am not somebody that would resign and you would not know. I have not resigned,” he said curtly before walking into the hall where the meeting of the BOT was to hold.
It had been reported that President Goodluck Jonathan had asked Tukur to honourably turn in his resignation letter before the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for Thursday this week, with the reports saying Tukur had obliged to save his face, as he risks the embarrassment of being suspended from the party by members of the NWC if he remained president.
There were said to be plans by the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee to suspend the embattled Chairman.
