The killers, who were about six, came with his photograph, traced him to his bedroom where they tied him to a cushion chair, shot at him and axed his head afterwards.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Before they killed him, they put a call through to someone, who probably sent them, to confirm whether my husband was actually the one they went for and the person answered in the affirmative after which they slaughtered him.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Okon-Effiong hung the blame of her husband’s death on some family members whom she said had alleged that he alongside some elders were responsible for the death of one of their relatives, Benjamin Etim, through witchcraft.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Before her husband’s death, she said one Madam Ikwo, aged 79, was already kidnapped same day and her whereabouts was still unknown, adding that those who were accusing other elders of the family of masterminding Etim’s death were using Bakassi militants to terrorise the people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Corroborating her mother’s statement, the second son of the deceased, Odionka Okon-Effiong, said the dismembered body of his father was deposited that night at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Calabar by the Police team from Atakpa Division who arrived the scene of the crime after the killers had escaped.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was gathered that the remains of the traditional ruler has since been buried in line with the tradition of the Efut people, which does not allow a dead body of departed traditional leaders to lay unburied for more than 72 hours.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, Mr. Hogan Bassey, confirmed the death of the traditional ruler.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He, however, added that the matter was still under investigations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

I work as a native doctor too in Owode Egba area of Abeokuta. I treat women who are barren, people who have epilepsy, blood pressure and other ailments.<br/><br /><br/><br />“When Djassau came to my house last year, he consulted fellow herbalists that he needed more powers for his work. When leaving, he told me he would be bringing an idol for me from Benin Republic which would be used for the powers. Certainly, it has not achieved its potential in its first 100 years.<br/><br /><br/><br />“Every Nigerian has an opinion of how far we have traveled as a nation. For me, the issue is not to say who is right or wrong, but what is right or wrong.”<br/><br /><br/><br />He identified the issue of ideologies as one that readily came to mind, saying “the typical example is the conflict of ideologies between liberal democracy and sharia law.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The former head of state reasoned that since about 72,000 lawyers had passed through the Nigerian Law Schools, it would be safe to assume that there would be as many interpretations of why lawyers were in Owerri for the conference.<br/><br /><br/><br />“I am happy to know that the NBA has over the years, remained faithful to is mission of advancing cause and causes of justice in our society.”<br/><br /><br/><br />Gen. Gowon noted that any nation or institution that attained a century could not be considered a light weight, neither could it be treated with disrespect, regardless of whether or not the paucity of achievements outweighed the challenges of nation building or vice versa.<br/><br /><br/><br />In his keynote address, Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, commended the leadership of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, for sustaining “the old and noble tradition of holding its annual general conference, rather than submitting cheaply to the prevailing fear of the Ebola pandemic”.<br/><br /><br/><br />He said: “The theme of the conference, Nigeria: 100 years after, is apt and commendable. I believe that 100 years , post amalgamation, is yet another critical period for stock taking as we look forward to commencing another millennium of nationhood.”<br/><br /><br/><br />While describing this day and age as “not the best of times for our dear country, the Speaker equally expressed regret that the nation was passing through grave insecurity arising from the insurgency from the North East, spate of kidnapping and ritual killings, as well as varying levels of violence and wanton destruction of life and property in parts of the nation.<br/><br /><br/><br />He commended the Federal Government for what he termed “the efficient and proactive handling of the Ebola outbreak”, and the armed forces for working assiduously to overcome the current security challenges facing the nation.<br/><br /><br/><br />It was his considered opinion that the citizenry are looking forward to general elections that are free, fair, credible and peaceful.<br/><br /><br/><br />He lamented that much as the nation talks about growing the economy, the rural populace was still bedeviled with abject poverty and want, adding that something was fundamentally wrong with the system.\<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>
