<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1H57iZ9" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="http://ift.tt/1H57iZ9" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><b><br/> </b> <b><br/> </b> <b>Dr Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, Minister of Finance on Tuesday said that government was still committed to ensuring the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls one year after their abduction.</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Okonjo Iweala made the pledge at a meeting with representatives of the Chibok Community in Abuja on Tuesday, on the Safe School Initiative.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The minister was represented on the occasion by Mrs Anasthesia Nwaobia, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said that the meeting was part of efforts to let the community know that the rescue of the girls, reconstruction of schools and making Chibok safe remained top priority of the government.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Today is a day that marks the first anniversary of the abduction of our brave girls in Chibok; they were callously taken away from us and family with the aim of depriving them of having quality education.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Their absence will create a vacuum in space but they are in our minds,’’ she said and expressed the hope that the girls would be rescued.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Commenting on development on the Safe School initiative, the minister said that the project and search for the girls would continue notwithstanding the change in government.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />She said that the initiative was committed to ensuring that teachers and students were secure and properly educated in conducive environments.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“A lot of work has been done in the remodelling of the school to ensure that it is properly reconstructed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We have completed the technical aspect of the work and the construction plan is ready, in couple of weeks, we will move to site,’’ she said<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr Tsambido Abana, Chairman, Chibok Area Development Association, said it was unfortunate that in 365 days the girls had yet to be rescued.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that the community welcomed all government efforts to remodel and reconstruct the school but noted that the rescue of the girls was more important to the community.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are saying that what we are seeing has fallen short of the expectations of the community. The abduction of the girls kept the community devastated.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We really want to know what government is doing in this regard; we have been hearing so many stories, we don’t know which one to take.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Yes, the reconstruction of the schools but one has to be alive to go to school,’’ he said.<br/><br /><br/><br />Also, Mr Battah Ndirpaya, the National Secretary of the association, said that there was no training and school available to ‘out of school’ children in the Internally Displaced Persons’ camps.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that the community appreciated the effort of the minister but noted that more should be done to empower the community and build more schools.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On his part, Mr Mike Omeri, Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), said that the plight of the community reflected the feelings of all Nigerians.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that there was deep national commitment to efforts aimed at finding the girls and restoring hope for the community.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“This national commitment requires total support and understanding, we should avoid hearsay and speculative ambitions and be more focused.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“For me, it is not one year to celebrate; what is required is total commitment and government has not lost sense of responsibility,’’ he said<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that finding the girls was top government priority and added that no resource invested in doing it would be a waste.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br/><br /><br/><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1y4PA6z" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://ift.tt/1y4PA6z" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Residents of Balogun area of Osogbo were shocked when detectives from Osun State Police Command exhumed the decomposing remains of a 19-year-old girl, Bilikisu from a pit toilet at Abaja compound of the town.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was gathered that a middle-aged man simply identified as Soji allegedly dumped the corpse in the pit toilet after she was killed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Sources told our correspondent that Bilikisu was Soji’s girlfriend for over two years before her death.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Soji who is now at large was said to have removed Bilikisu’s breasts before dumping her remains in the pit toilet.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Residents of the area told our correspondent that they knew Bilikisu as Soji’s girlfriend and that the duo engaged in incessant fight often.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was learnt that they separated at a time and Bilikisu left Soji for several months.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Residents of the area said Soji and Bilikisu eventual resolved their last misunderstanding and Bilikusu returned to Soji’s house.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Few days after she returned to the house, she got missing, and Bilikisu’s parents while searching for their daughter visited Soji’s house and discovered that the man had absconded from the house.<br/><br /><br/><br />The matter was said to have been reported to the police, who immediately swung to action, and raised a search party which eventually discovered that Bilikisu was dead and that she had been dumped in the pit toilet.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was further gathered that the police detectives from Criminal Investigation Department during their search opened up the concrete slab on the pit and discovered the remains of Bilikisu.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Police Public Relation Officer for Osun State Police Command, Folashade Odoro could not be reached at the time of filing this reports but a police source confirmed that the matter is under investigation and that detectives are on Soji’s trail.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

I am 70 and I need to tidy up my memoirs and if you want to do that, you need a lot of time away from all of the hassles. But it does not mean I will no longer be a Nigerian. I have no personal grudge against Buhari or all the other people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are in two different parties with different ideologies and if he is the President, I have no objection and I wish him the best of luck. The break will give me time. Rather than running up and down to Abuja, I will be there (abroad) writing my memoirs and doing other things for myself.
