They are recruiting thugs that will be throwing stones at General Buhari, just to give the impression that he is not loved by the people of the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But we shall resist it. We have also petitioned the commissioner of police in the state on this.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We expect the security agencies to do what they are paid to do.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Also, the Coordinator of the Buhari Legacy Foundation, Chief Kolawole James, said the foundation was committed to complementing the efforts of the APC in the state to ensure that Buhari emerged the country’s president during the next month’s election.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He noted that Buhari remained a credible candidate, dedicated to bringing the desired change to Nigeria and the people of Ondo State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Responding, the state chapter of the PDP refuted the allegation, saying the party represented civility and decency.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Banji Okunomo, said, “The PDP is a very decent party. Olajide Laleye.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Laleye’s redeployment was said to be routine and part of regular redeployment and postings of officers by the leadership of the Army.<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A security source said shortly after the monthly meeting of the Forum of Security and Response Agencies in Abuja at the Rock View Hotel, Abuja, that the director of army public relations had been deployed to Benin as the Commander in charge of the 4th Brigade of the Nigerian Army.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Laleye would neither confirm nor deny his new posting on Wednesday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />When our correspondent contacted the Army spokesman on the telephone, he said that the Army would come out with a formal position on postings within the service later.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The Army would make a formal reaction on redeployments within the service later,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The postings were said to have also affected the General Officer Commanding the 7th Division, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Ibrahim.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ibrahim has been moved to the Army headquarters to ‘occupy a high position’ while Maj. Gen. E Adeosun is appointed to take over as GOC of the 7th Division.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Until his appointment, Adeosun had been in charge of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Abia State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was further reported that the GOC in charge of the 2nd Division, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Abejirin, had been retired from the service “after years of meritorious service.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The forum has representatives from the military and intelligence and response agencies in the country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Laleye, on Monday, had said, “The Nigerian Army has carried out postings as a result of promotions and retirements. Postings are done periodically in the Army as a result of promotions and retirements…”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Meanwhile, the Forum of Spokespersons for Security and Response Agencies has warned politicians against making inciting and reckless utterances as the nation moves nearer to the 2015 elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Forum also called on religious and community leaders to sensitise their subjects against involvement in political thuggery and violence.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The FOSSRA’s comment was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its monthly meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The communiqué was signed by the Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1xuYenq" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="http://ift.tt/1xuYenq" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A former Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has said that the Federal Government led by President Goodluck Jonathan is clueless and that the country needed an urgent rescue from what he described as “imminent brink of irredeemable destruction.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The cleric therefore called on all Nigerians to wake up from their slumber and face the reality by electing into the position of leadership only persons “who know what to do.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He added that efforts must be made to educate the average Nigerian to choose their leader based on capability and not on the basis of ethnic or religious affiliations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Okogie spoke in Lagos at the 11th edition of the Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture/Symposium, where he was the chairman of the occasion.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He condemned the present administration for the prevalent insecurity in the country and the nation’s economic woes.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Okogie said, “There is extra urgency to rescue Nigeria. This is the time when every right thinking Nigerian must pray to hate the present situation strong enough so as to desire the fortitude to act right.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“This time does not allow for indifference. All must rise to save Nigeria from the brink of irredeemable destruction. This is the time we must play politics of the best, for the best position, in order to guarantee the best for our nation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Let only those with the fear of God and love of their neighbours rule Nigeria; only those who know what to do should sit at the helm of affairs. Enough of mediocrity, enough of failures, enough of nepotism, and enough of ethnicity.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Okogie, while describing the late Fawehinmi, a human rights lawyer, as courageous, principled, and selfless and a detribalised statesman, said he was sure that Fawehinmi was now restless in his grave given the present state of the nation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “It is said that Gani Fawehinmi died a sad man. For a man who was fearless in speaking his mind without caring whose ox is gored, he was jailed many times and detained many more times for no personal crime but for his struggle to ensure justice, fairness and good governance in the country, dying without seeing signs that the new dispensation he struggled for will be achieved is a devastating blow.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Now in death, the knowledge that Nigeria has deteriorated so badly since his passing away must be giving Gani sleeplessness.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Okogie said were Fawehinmi to be alive, he would have been worried over the general decay in the political and economic spheres of the nation “which is riddled with lies, deception, incompetence, mediocrity, hopelessness, lawlessness and lack of vision.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The cleric said he was certain that Fawehinmi in his characteristic manner would have dragged the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to court for “his disgraceful conduct, arrogant and flagrant slap on our democracy by his unconstitutional role in the National Assembly saga recently.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to Okogie, Fawehinmi would have also been at the forefront of the struggle for the release of the abducted Chibok girls.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said Fawehinmi would have been infuriated that Nigerians were placing ethnic and religious considerations ahead of capability in choosing their leaders.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In his own submission, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Femi Falana, mocked the political class and all the presidential aspirants who queued up in Abuja on Wednesday to sign the peace pact under the supervision of a former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Falana said, “Mr. Kofi Annan, a former Secretary General of the United Nations, came to Abuja to insult all of us, particularly our political leaders. Ugochi is of the commission’s Anambra State office.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to two Decision Extracts, dated January 8, 2015 and signed by the Director (Commission’s Secretariat), Ishiaku Gali, the dismissal and termination of appointments of the three officers followed the commission’s meeting of Thursday, January 8, 2015.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command on Thursday intercepted a truck loaded with electoral materials in Gboko, Gboko Local Government Area of the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The command’s spokesman, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, John Bako, confirmed the interception to one of our correspondents on the telephone.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He however said, “The people were intercepted by our men this morning (Thursday) and taken to custody and after a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the electoral materials were for the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The BESIEC official had the permission letter from one of the directors of the Commission to go round the state and gather electoral materials from the last local government election.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The police PPRO noted that if not for the intervention of the Police, the situation would have degenerated into a crisis along party line.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />When asked why they were not going around with police escorts, Bako said, “Well, they were advised to do so next time.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was gathered that several people besieged the place and would have taken laws into their hands had the Police not acted swiftly.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was alleged that the electoral materials belonged to one of the major political parties meant to facilitate rigging in the 2015 general elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A prominent Tiv elder, Chief Iorapuu Amile, regretted the development wondering why BESIEC would be going around in the name of gathering electoral materials that were used two years ago for local government elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Amile charged the Police to be more proactive, as being neutral would be the only way to avoid anarchy during and after the 2015 general elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

Ignatius Kaigama, under the Dialogue, Reconciliation and Peace Centre, a peace advocacy initiative established by the archdiocese.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Apart from the PDP and the APC leaders, the pact was also signed by the leaders of Igbo community, Eze Igbo, Prof. J.E.C. Obilom; Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Sheikh Balarabe Dawud; Archbishop Kaigama; INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Godwin Kwanga; leaders of Berom, Hausa, Afizere and Fulani communities; representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria, JNI, JIBWIS, and other interest groups and non-governmental organisations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Part of the peace deal read, “We do solemnly swear and promise that we will not do anything to compromise the peace we are enjoying now in Plateau State and urge that politics of bitterness and hostile confrontation be replaced by politics of maturity through dialogue, peaceful campaigns and encounters. I saw maybe around 100 killed at that time in Baga. I ran to the bush. As we were running, they were shooting and killing,” a man in his 50s was quoted as saying.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Another woman added, “I don’t know how many, but there were bodies everywhere we looked.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The testimony chimes with claims from local officials that huge numbers were killed and that of witnesses spoken to by AFP, who described seeing decomposing bodies littering the streets.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />One man, who escaped from Baga after hiding for three days, said he was “stepping on bodies” for five kilometres (three miles) as he fled through the bush.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Nigeria’s military, which often downplays death tolls, said this week that 150 people died, dismissing as “sensational” claims that 2,000 may have lost their lives.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Human Rights Watch said the exact death toll was unknown. Ask, If they had bought guns in 1985, will he be fighting war with 1985 guns?<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is a good thing to take a man by his words. Awolowo prepared himself to speak in public because he knew the value of the spoken word and more importantly knew electoral promises were a matter of very serious honour, and to break them was a matter of great dishonour and breach of trust.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Indeed, nothing honours or dishonours a man like the value of his words.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Fashola also faulted activist of free education in Nigeria, saying they were not well informed about what it meant to give free education at all levels.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He explained that free education could only be guaranteed at the primary and secondary level, adding that many people had failed to differentiate between education and specialisation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />According to Fashola, education ends at secondary level, other activities at tertiary level can be described as specialisation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said, “What is the definition of education that must be free and which the state is duty bound to provide, and which the citizen is duty bound to take? These questions are important; those who chant Awolowo’s name in the quest for free education at all levels, have probably not done the cost of educating one child at primary level, let alone secondary and tertiary level levels which some people are clamouring for.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“And if these omissions by the protagonists are enough, they cannot provide any data about the number of beneficiaries, yet they say Awolowo would simply have done it. Why must you have a show on the day the Federal Government has declared elections? It is Valentine’s Day, but we need to respect the authorities and our country.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Reacting to the information, one Trevonatoe said Basketmouth would not dare host a concert on Election Day if he were a citizen of the USA. But he advised the comedian to “get wise” and show some respect to his country.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />But, reacting to calls to Basketmouth to postpone the concert and stay put in Nigeria till the end of the general elections, Ashagangagali appealed to other respondents to consider the trouble that the comedian had to go through to organise the event.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He wrote, “Basketmouth started planning his Valentine’s Day event since last year, I trust, as a professional. Who would have thought that the Federal Government would choose that day to host an election and at a very short notice?
