<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1FC3ptP" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="http://ift.tt/1FC3ptP" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><b><br/> </b> <b>The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that the All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, should seek forgiveness and not votes from the people of the Yoruba land and even those in Edo and Delta States.</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Buhari’s coup of 1983 destroyed the Southwest and the old Bendel State (now Edo and Delta) as it put an end to the developmental programmes of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) government in the Southwest States of Lagos, Oyo, Ogun and Ondo, as well as Bendel State,” Mr. Fayose said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Mr. Fayose said Mr. Buhari meted out inhuman treatment to Yoruba leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Adekunle Ajasin, Bisi Onabanjo, Bola Ige, Lateef Jakande and the immediate past APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande, all of whom championed development and good governance in the Southwest States.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The governor described Mr. Buhari’s cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 as the greatest disservice to the Yoruba people in particular, and Nigerians in general.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“If Buhari had not cancelled the metroline project out of vendetta, transportation problems in Lagos would have been solved permanently.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The metroline project would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. But Buhari cancelled it and even went ahead to pay compensation to the French company that handled it. Buhari’s action cost Lagosians over $78 million then,” Mr. Fayose said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Speaking further, the governor said; “In Yorubaland, we were enjoying free education and free health before Buhari came. Then, all that was needed to go to primary and secondary schools was school uniform. Drugs were free.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Apart from free education and free health, the Southwest witnessed rapid development. Lagos State University, Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University), Ondo State Polytechnic (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic), and several other institutions were established.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As at 1979, Lagos State had no secretariat. Jakande’s government built the Alausa Secretariat within four years. Ajasin’s government built Alagbaka Secretariat in Akure within four years. Even the Lekki-Epe road on which they are now collecting tolls was constructed by Jakande.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“For all that they did for us in Yorubaland, what did Buhari do to Jakande, Ajasin, Bola Ige and Bisi Onabanjo? He jailed them and Bisi Onabanjo came out of prison with health issues that eventually claimed his life.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“What did Buhari do to reward Awolowo, whose party gave us free education and free health? Awolowo’s international passport was seized and he was prevented from travelling abroad for medical treatment. Black people have melanin, but in the case of albinos, they suffer from a total lack of melanin.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Family members in the country now sell off their children to those who believe that body parts of these special people will bring a person wealth or luck.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The report states that people are ready to pay up to between $3,000 and $4,000 for a limb, or as much as $75,000 (about £50,000) for the full human body.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The report said: “since people began collecting records of the attacks, there have been 74 killings and 59 survivors of attacks. Even the dead are not safe: 16 graves have been robbed. And these are only the recorded cases.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The most recent case saw four-year-old Pendo Emmanuelle Nundi abducted from her home in December. Her father and uncle were both arrested in connection with her disappearance, but – despite rewards offered of £1,130 and promises of swift action from the police – she has not been found.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A victim, Mwigulu Matonange, was said to be 10 when he was attacked by two men as he walked home from school with a friend.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />They chopped off his left arm, before disappearing back into the jungle with their ‘prize’, Daily Mail said, quoting the boy as saying: “I was held down like a goat about to be slaughtered,” he told IPP Media after the February 2014 attack.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Another case was a 38-year-old woman with albinism who was attacked with machetes by her own husband and four other men while she was sleeping in February 2013, while her eight-year-old daughter watched. Her husband took her arm away.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Those living with albinism in Tanzania fear the lure of making a couple of hundred dollars – three times the minimum wage earned in the country – is placing them in danger, even from their own families,” the report said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Josephat Torner, who campaigns for albino rights in the country says he had also received death threats from unknown people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He told <i>Daily Mail</i>: “now we can see the parents who are involved in planning the attacks. What kind of war are we fighting if parents and family do this? Who can we trust?<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“You do not know who is your enemy. People with the albinism are being hunted and killed for our body parts.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is because people want to become rich. We are still living in danger. It is because people have different ideas.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Some people, they are thinking they should get our body parts and sell to different places.<br/><br /><br/><br />“The question is, why? Why now? And who is behind the killings?’Exactly who remains unknown.<br/><br /><br/><br />“The big fishes are behind the issue. It has been really a big discussion. If I say big fish, or big people, it is those who have enough resources, enough money. People sell the body parts for high prices. So it is not really small fish behind it. It could be politicians. It could be those people.<br/><br /><br/><br />“This year we are going to have an election. Since last year, we have been seeing attacks and killings. Already, there has been a noticeable increase.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Recently, the report said, 15-year-old Pendo Sengerema was attacked as she ate dinner at home with her family. APC said it understands that the traditional rulers will be made to move from there to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for the President’s rally so as to give the impression that they are supporting his re-election bid.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The party said the purported directive is not only condemnable and immoral but also wicked, deceitful and unacceptable. Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said in a statement issued Tuesday night in Port Harcourt.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He described the plot as mischief of the highest order, pointing out that in all the states where President Jonathan has so far campaigned; there was no where in which traditional rulers were made to wait and receive him at the airport or to attend such rallies.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“During his rally in Kano, Mr. President visited the Emir of Kano; in Anambra he visited the Obi of Onitsha; while in Ekiti, Ondo and other states no traditional ruler was compelled to come out to wait or receive Mr. President at the airport; instead, it was Mr. President that paid homage to these traditional rulers in their palaces.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The party wondered why revered traditional rulers would be dragged into murky waters of politics and exposed to public ridicule while treating their colleagues in other states with the desired respect.<br/><br /><br/><br />Ikanya wondered why PDP in Rivers state descended to this low depth and debased traditional institutions out of desperation to shore up its doomed fortunes in the February general elections.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It is a pity that Mr. President could allow his party in Rivers State to debase our traditional institution in this manner while he accords respect to traditional rulers in other states by paying them courtesy calls at their palaces. Why not accord ours the same respect, dignity and honour given to others? To worsen the situation, the plot of PDP to force these traditional rulers against their will to follow Mr. President to the rally venue is to make the world think that they are all PDP card-carrying members. What insolence! What injustice! What a desecration of the traditional institution!”<br/><br /><br/><br />The party said, however, that it is not surprised over the development as Wike, the man behind it, has no regard for traditional rulers in the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He put President Jonathan and PDP on notice that “no sound Rivers State person will vote or support the candidature of President Jonathan or any PDP candidate due to the injustices we have suffered in the hands of the PDP-led Presidency of Dr. Jonathan.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Rivers APC said it was as a result of PDP’s rejection by Rivers people that the party could not muster enough people from the state to fill half of the stadium during President Jonathan’s Wednesday rally and has hired supporters from neighbouring Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Enugu states to give the impression that the party still exists in Rivers.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The party urged Rivers people to conduct themselves peacefully and endure all provocation that PDP may unleash on them during Jonathan’s visit and get prepared to punish them accordingly with their votes come February 14 and 22.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><b><br/> </b><br/><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1CcXsSH" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="http://ift.tt/1CcXsSH" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><b><br/> </b> <b>The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has begun an indefinite strike over non-payment of teachers’ salaries in the state.</b><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The teachers, who began the strike on Monday, said they would not go back to classes until the state government fulfilled the agreement it reached with them in concrete terms.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The circular, which was signed by the Union’s Secretary, Dr. Mike Ike-Ene, authorising the industrial action, was made available to newsmen in Uyo on Monday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Marked NUT/AKSW/SWEC.13/Vol./70, the circular indicated that the union proceeded on the strike following the breach of agreement earlier reached between the Akwa Ibom State Government and the union.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The teachers of Akwa Ibom State have resolved that failure to address all the issues already negotiated and agreement reached in concrete terms will not make the teachers to report for work,” statement added.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The circular, however, decried the non-payment of promotion arrears since 2009 to date to members in primary schools by the state government.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“All appeals by the union to make State Universal Basic Education to clear the backlog of the arrears of promotion owed primary school teachers in the state have proved abortive.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Teachers in the primary schools system have not been paid their leave grants since 2012,” the union alleged.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The union in the circular also alleged that pensions and gratuities due to the primary school teachers in the state and their 2014 December salaries had not been paid.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

He said 80 houses were destroyed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />"We are dealing with barbaric people, lawless people," Bakary said. "Nothing can prevent them from assassinating."<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The raid came a day after neighbouring Chad deployed troops to combat Boko Haram in Cameroon and Nigeria, as part of a regional bid to combat the group.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Cameroon came under attack last Monday when it said its troops repelled a raid by Boko Haram on a northern military base.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The group has been recruiting fighters in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, and recently issued a video threatening Paul Biya, Cameroon's president.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Brutal raids, massacres, suicide bomb attacks and kidnappings blamed on Boko Haram - which seeks to establish an Islamic state in northern Nigeria - have claimed at least 13,000 lives since 2009 and driven an estimated 1.5 million people from their homes.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In Nigeria on Sunday, a suicide bomber killed five people and injured 35 others in the northeast town of Potiskum.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The latest violence come as Chadian troops are seeking to recapture the strategic town of Baga on the shores of Lake Chad, which straddles the borders of Chad, Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon and which fell to Boko Haram early this month.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The assault on Baga could be Boko Haram's deadliest yet. Satellite pictures released by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch showed widespread destruction with around 3,700 buildings in Baga and nearby Doro Gowon damaged or destroyed.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Amnesty says as many as 2,000 civilians may have been massacred, but Nigeria's army objected to the "sensational" claims and said that the death toll in Baga was about 150.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>
