<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><p><a href="http://ift.tt/1s2X8x6"><img alt="" class="alignnone size-full" data-recalc-dims="1" src="http://ift.tt/1D6Gky6" title="b1e5f54416270y1J5o7U.jpg"/> </a> </p><br /><p>A German Ebola expert has reportedly said that it is too late to contain the virus and that the disease will kill 5 million people in the affected countries before it “burns out.”</p><br /><p>Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg told Germany’s Deutsche Welle that:</p><br /><p>The right time to get this epidemic under control in these countries has been missed,” “That time was May and June.” “Now it will be much more difficult.”</p><br /><p>Schmidt-Chanasit, a virologist, supposedly said further that “efforts should now be focused on stopping the transmission of the virus to other countries.”</p><br /><p>The Centre For Research On Globalization said on its website that the virologist stated that hope is all but lost for the inhabitants of Sierra Leone and Liberia and that the virus will only “burn itself out” when it has infected the entire population and killed five million people.</p><br /><p>Schmidt-Chanasit also said the virus will “become endemic” and that the only solution now is to “help where it is still possible, in Nigeria and Senegal for example.”</p><br /><p>The Ebola outbreak of 2014 has been described as the worst ever by the World Health Organization and over 2000 people have died from the disease in West Africa</p><br /></div>

This led to the arrest of the Ekiti APC member.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>One of the other eight has turned out to be a PDP chief in Kogi State. His PDP campaign poster was obtained by <em>The Nation</em> yesterday.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Reacting yesterday to the new twist to the story, the police image maker said: “The idea of anybody trying to read political colouration into it is rather unfortunate. We were concerned about the robbery, and if the suspect had not opened up that he was a political thug, perhaps that would not have come up. Ajewole said it so openly that it would have been difficult for anybody to contest the fact. But if anyone has any additional information from anywhere, that is alright. So people should not drag us into politics.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The other person, even if he was a politician, the interrogation probably never took us to that direction. MURTALA NYAKO PRESENTING THE 2014 BUDGET ESTIMATES TO THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, YOLA</p><br /><br/> </div><br /><br/><br /><p>Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State maintained yesterday that he remained strong and resolute in face of the impeachment process initiated against him by the state House of Assembly.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The governor also denied reports making the rounds that he was contemplating throwing in the towel as a face-saving measure even as he said he does not need the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan on the matter.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Based on allegations of gross misconduct, including corruption and nepotism, some members of the House of Assembly are pushing for Nyako’s impeachment.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The governor, who stated this yesterday when he stormed the presidential villa in Abuja, twice in less than 24 hours, to attend the inauguration of the steering committee of the Safe Schools Initiative by the president. Nyako is a member of the steering committee.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Responding to questions by State House correspondents whether he had been making overtures to the president to intervene in the impeachment saga, Nyako said, “Not yet. It has not reached that crisis point”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He, however, did not rule out the possibility of calling for help from the president when the need arises.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We have supported him all this time; he has supported us and in situations like these when Mr. President’s support is required, we will seek it”, Nyako said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>When asked to react to reports that some former Heads of State had spoken to the president on his behalf, the governor said: “That will be excellent”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Asked whether he might likely resign, he said he was not considering that option yet, even as he expressed the confidence that he would survive the ongoing impeachment proceedings against him.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The governor noted that since the issue was before the court, it was expected that the House of Assembly members would not do anything illegal.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Well, it is in the court and the court said it was not well done. We are hoping that if they want to do it, they will do it following the normal process in whatever they want to do”, Nyako stated, just as he claimed that the state was calm and peaceful.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Asked to give insight into the root cause of the crisis, he said: “Adamawa is a very interesting place. If I tell you we have 87 ethnic groups and the two religions are fairly balanced, it means that being sensitive to each and everyone of us is very important.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“It is a place of intellectualism; everybody has his own point of view and you have a group of people who share a certain point of view. And until it changes, they will maintain that point of view. But we have been peaceful somehow and we will remain peaceful”, he pledged.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>On whether he nursed the plan to defect back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyako noted that: “Quite frankly, you know how I joined the PDP and partisan politics in the first place. It is not really my field. My field is known. You know what I was before. We are straightforward; have two distinctions: loyalty and disloyalty; two separate pieces.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“But one of the politicians told me that there are a lot of things in between loyalty and disloyalty which up till this moment I have not appreciated. So, for me, disloyalty with this type of attitude with Nigerian politics of today you are likely to step on toes of a few”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The governor, who was clad in a white <em>Caftan</em> and a black cap to match, drove into the villa at about 2:00pm in a black Toyota Camry with Gombe State registration number.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p><img alt="national-hospital-abuja" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-227610" height="300" src="http://ift.tt/1qYhjRq" width="400"/>A Bill seeking to change the name of the National Hospital for Women and Children, Abuja, to “the National Hospital, Abuja”, passed through its second reading on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Leading debate on the general principles of the bill, Rep. Ali Ahmad (APC, Kwara), said it was meant to reflect change in the hospital’s name to the National Hospital; which it has been so-called since May, 2010.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to him, the National Hospital for Women and Children was originally established to cater for only women and children.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The lawmaker noted that the change of name was necessary because the hospital’s services had extended to all Nigerians irrespective of gender.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“This amendment is imperative to reflect the realities on ground. The hospital is no longer for women and children alone; it is now for all Nigerians”, he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Recall that the hospital was formally established under Decree 36 of 1999 (Act 36 of 1999) and was commissioned by then Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar on 22 May, 1999.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The bill to change the name was supported by lawmakers across party divides including Friday Itulah (PDP, Edo). The lawmaker said it was the right step in the right direction.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He said: “This change of name is right. It is the parliament that has the responsibility to effect the change. It is only proper that we reflect what is happening by changing the name to National Hospital, Abuja”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The House also passed the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) 2014 bills through second reading yesterday.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The FCTA bill has N271.13 billion estimate, while the NDDC’s has an expenditure estimates of N322.6 billion.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Both bills were referred to the Committee on the FCT and the NDDC for further legislative input.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

Aregbesola had visited Oyinlola at his Okuku country home on Monday night where they held a closed-door meeting that lasted less than an hour.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Oyedokun, who made his views known in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Olalere Fagbola, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, said political competition should not be seen as enmity, adding that politicians could make friends across political divides.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The statement read, “I commend Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola for the open arms with which he received Governor Rauf Aregbesola to his home last Monday. The gesture is a civilised one and a clear demonstration of spirit of patriotism.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Contrary to insinuations being made in certain quarters, the action has further corrected the wrong impression of the party as an abode of political Philistines. The PDP is proud of the statesman posture by Oyinlola.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“It is regrettable that only in Nigeria are people prone to draw negative lines between political opponents. Nigerians should begin to imbibe the same display of patriotism by President Goodluck Jonathan who recently commended General Muhammdu Buhari for his statesman-like views on terrorism and insecurity”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Oyedokun, who is also the Chairman of the Elders Committee of the PDP in Osun State, warned members of the party to beware of people who are “deliberately misinterpreting party’s directives with a view to causing disaffection”.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>
