When the police traced and arrested Okechukwu, who took the team to where he kept the girls on Saturday, July 5, 2014, it was discovered that the suspects had been involved in the business for a long time.” Continue…</div><br /><p><a id="more" name="more"> </a> </p><br /></blockquote><br /><blockquote class='tr_bq'><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>“The girls were brought from different local government areas, and further investigation revealed that after delivering, he will settle (pay) the girls N100,000 per baby girl and N150,000 for a baby boy before selling the babies,” the DPO said.</div><br /></blockquote><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>Mohammed said that investigation was ongoing to get to the root of the matter, adding that child trafficking remains an offence in the country.</div><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'> </div><br /><div style='text-align: justify;'>However, Okechukwu, who spoke with newsmen, denied operating a baby factory. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div id='attachment_174896' class='wp-caption alignleft' readability='9'><img alt="EDO STATE GOVERNOR ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE DISPLAYING HIS ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) MEMBERSHIP CARD AFTER REGISTERING AT IYAMHO, ETSAKO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA." class="size-full wp-image-174896" height="330" src="http://ift.tt/1bbgKx9" width="620"/><br/><br /><p class='wp-caption-text'>EDO STATE GOVERNOR ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE DISPLAYING HIS ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) MEMBERSHIP CARD AFTER REGISTERING AT IYAMHO, ETSAKO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.</p><br /><br/> </div><br /><br/><br /><p>Some leaders of the Edo Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, on Thursday called on Governor Adams Oshiomhole to relinquish control of the party structure, to pave way for internal democracy.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The leaders, along with some party faithfuls from across the 18 Local Government Councils in the state, made this call after a meeting in Benin.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The leaders accused the governor of using some of his political appointees to intimidate party faithfuls.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>They said the party desires a system that respects the sanctity of internal democracy.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The convener of the meeting and former state chairman of the party, Chief Tony Omoaghe, read the communiqué.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>It read in part: “We need a system that is devoid of deliberate sponsorship of rancour and factionalisation within the party.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The communiqué said since assuming office, the governor has subdued the practice of internal and participatory democracy across the state.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“It is on record that he single-handedly handpicked party candidates for last year’s Local Government Council elections in the state.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The Ward and Local Government congresses were a monumental fiasco under the watch of the governor who, once again, single-handedly handled the process.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Weeks before the exercise, he mobilised his political appointees to go about with the claim that they are mandated to draw up a list of party executives for the congresses.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“When this tactic failed, they decided to manipulate the process through all manner of subterfuge, including sponsoring violence.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“As I speak, results are still being falsified at the Government House, where the state party secretariat has been moved to facilitate the governor’s design,” Omoaghe said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The members also berated Oshiomhole for hijacking the party structure to serve “selfish and narrow political interests.”</p><br /><br/><br /><p>In their four-point prayer, along with relinquishing of party control, the members also prayed the governor to immediately cancel what they described as “sham” registration of party members.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>They also called for the cancellation of the ward and local government congresses in the state.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>They demanded an apology to the leadership of the party, particularly the former governor of the state, Chief John Oyegun.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>They said the apology became necessary in the face of insults meted out on them by the governor.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Meanwhile, the governor has described as “unfounded” the allegations raised by the leaders in their communiqué.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Kazeem Afegbua, the governor said that he had at various times addressed some of the issues being raised.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>According to him, “as a party, it is expected that you cannot pacify and fulfil all the demands and aspirations of each and every one of the members of the party.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Where there are genuine cases of infractions, I know that the governor, given his magnanimous disposition, will definitely take steps to encourage the party structure to address those issues”, he said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Other signatories to the communiqué included the former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ize Iyamu and a former state Vice Chairman of the party, Alhaji Usman Shagadi, amongst others. As you all know, without the role played by your great son of blessed memory, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in my political career, I would probably still be in Yenagoa as Governor of Bayelsa State.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Without him, I probably wouldn’t have been President of Nigeria today. He was a very good boss. He was honest, forthright, and patriotic. He had a great vision for Nigeria and set out to do things in a different and original manner. We all take consolation in the fact that he gave his best during the short period that he served our country.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“If he were here today, I have no doubts that he would be impressed with the visible transformation that is taking place throughout the length and breadth of this state. Governor Shema and his able team deserve commendation not only for initiating new projects, but also for ensuring the completion of all the projects initiated by our late beloved President Umaru Yar’Adua who by providence was his, and also my own predecessor in office”, He added</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Commending his host, the governor of Katsina state, Jonathan said: “Since our arrival this morning, we have gone round parts of the state to inspect and commission projects; and the projects that I have seen, are quite inspiring and highly commendable. They confirm what well-meaning indigenes of the State have often told me about the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of the people.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Let me use this unique opportunity to specially commend Governor Ibrahim Shema, for the outstanding work that he is doing. He has shown with his commitment, that what matters most in governance are the people, not politics. A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said the girl was full of life in the morning of the fateful day.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>She said: “I am terribly surprised because I saw that girl playing with other children when I was going to the<br/><br /><br/><br />market in the morning. I wonder what will make a girl of eight to commit suicide.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Another thing that surprise me is that the two legs of the victim were touching the ground, which is not normal when one commits suicide; the legs should be up.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>I urge the police and relevant security agencies to investigate that alleged suicide.
