<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1GPCiLt" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="http://ift.tt/1GPCiLt" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The United Nations must learn lessons from the Ebola crisis and begin preparing now for the next outbreak of deadly disease, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Monday.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Returning from a visit to Ebola-hit countries, Ban also called for recovery efforts to be stepped up in West Africa to rebuild shattered economies, get children back in school and begin caring for Ebola orphans.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We must learn the lessons of Ebola, which go well beyond strengthening public health systems,” Ban told reporters at UN headquarters.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The international community needs better early warning and rapid response.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The UN chief said he will launch a serious effort to “explore what more we can do to stay ahead of the next outbreak of disease — a test that is sure to come.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ban traveled to Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, the epicenter of the year-long Ebola epidemic that has killed more than 6,900 people. He also traveled to Mali, which has had a recent outbreak and Ghana, headquarters of the UN Ebola Emergency Mission.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />His call to take stock of the Ebola response followed sharp criticism from non-governmental organisations that the United Nations, in particular the World Health Organization, were too slow to swing into action.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The outbreak began in December in Guinea but it took nine months for the United Nations to decide to set up an emergency mission and to press for international mobilization to beat back the virus.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Diplomats have pointed the finger at the WHO for failing to quickly raise the alarm, but there has also been some soul-searching over funding cuts at the UN agency that have forced it to reduce its scope of action.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ban said scaling up recovery efforts in West Africa was one of four urgent steps needed to address the Ebola crisis.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also cited the need to adapt the response by chasing the virus in remote areas of West Africa and looking at isolated chains of transmission.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

I could give you the names if you like but I have no fear that these were very confident and it is in fact Boko Haram senior commanders who have been naming them.”<br/><br /><br/><br />He said that the spoken words and publication in their ordinary meaning were ‎understood by reasonable members of the society who listened or watched ‎ the said <i>AriseNews</i> broadcast in Abuja to mean that he sponsored Boko Haram, a terrorist sect to wage war, insurrection or insurgency against Nigeria.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He also said that the publication implied that he did not retire but was sacked by the President and that he had committed treason or treason able felony.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Ihejirika said the public who listened to the broadcast believed that ‎he had conducted himself in a manner tantamount to breach of his oath of allegiance and service as a soldier and senior officer in the Nigerian Army.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In an affidavit he deposed to, Ihejirika said he had suffered grievous wrong and had been exposed to scandal, odium,ridicule, humiliation and that his character, credit and reputation brought into disrepute, both in Nigeria and abroad.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

A large chunk of what could have been their profit is spent on purchasing and fueling generators.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The health hazards of generator smoke is also there. A number of people have died as a result of inhaling generator fume. We came to office to also learn that most of the water dams in the state are in bad shape.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“They were utterly neglected by the previous administration and the dams also suffer from lack of electricity to power their machines,” the governor was quoted as saying,” the statement said.<br/><br /><br/><br />Fayose said his administration would get some dedicated power lines from neighbouring states like Osun and Kwara to complement what is on ground in the state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He recalled that he did a similar thing during his first tenure, but that it was not maintained.<br/><br /><br/><br />He charged BEDC to put more efforts, saying the government and the people would cooperate with it in revenue generation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The governor added that while the government would not be able to provide employment for all job seekers, it would create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Fayose warned against vandalisation of equipment by hoodlums and some government staff‎ at the dams saying that his government was considering proposal which would put an end to vandalisation of government installations.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

I am extremely sad that our country has degenerated this much. I want to appeal to the kidnappers to free their victim unharmed and unconditionally. We are also victims in this country. We are poorly paid. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br/><br /><br/><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1zptBX9" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://ift.tt/1zptBX9" width="640"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />For allegedly assaulting her sister and stealing her N10,000, a 29-year-old woman, Kelechi Okafor, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Kelechi, who resides at Ifelodun Street, Amukoko in Apapa, is being tried for a three-count offence of stealing, unlawful assault and breach of peace.<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offences at her Amukoko apartment on Nov. 13 which she shared with her sister.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The complainant said that she kept the sum of N 10,000 in her drawer, but to her surprise the money was no longer there when she checked.<br/><br /><br/><br />“Oluchi decided to ask her sister about the money since she knew when she kept the money in the drawer.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The complainant said that to her surprise, the accused started beating her and also tore her dress,’’ he said.<br/><br /><br/><br />The offences, he added, contravened Sections 166,171 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Section 171and 285 prescribe three years jail term for assault occasioning harm and stealing.<br/><br /><br/><br />The accused, however, entered a plea of `not guilty’.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Senior Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 19, 2015 for trial.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>
