The choice in this election is crystal clear, it is either good luck or bad luck.” We are not there yet but we will get there very soon.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“People say I am a Goodluck Jonathan fanatic and it is true. I stand for and work for what I believe. I have worked for two presidents and I speak because I believe in what I say. I do not wish to denigrate anybody. This Goodluck Jonathan is the very best that we have seen.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There is no offense to compare ourselves with Goodluck Jonathan. The man Goodluck Jonathan bears a lot of burden, he keeps quiet, he is focused and does not talk anyhow so that Nigeria will remain one. There are members of the opposition that are deaf. It is not by coincidence that every good thing is happening in Nigeria,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Chairman, Northern Elders Council (NEC), Tanko Yakassai, said the Northern region of Nigeria will overwhelmingly vote for President Goodluck Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election scheduled to hold on February, 14 2015.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Yakassai, who listed some of the giant strides of President Jonathan also commended the ruling PDP for giving the president a return ticket to fly the party’s in the presidential election.<br/><br /><br/><br />He also commended the president for retaining Vice- President Namadi Sambo despite intense pressures from many quarters that he should be dropped.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I am happy to know that President Goodluck Jonathan was endorsed by his party, the PDP, as its presidential candidate. I also want to congratulate his party, the PDP for introducing the method of right of first refusal to Nigeria and I hope other political parties will adopt this measure to prevent any form of rancour in political parties. This is the type of politics that we are looking for in this country, politics of ideas and programme,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Speaking on the Boko Haram issue and the government’s efforts to successfully tackle insurgency in the country, he said the claim in some quarters that Boko Haram was created by some elements to destabilise Jonathan’s administration or is being sponsored by the President to perpetuate himself in office is erroneous, adding that, Boko Haram has been in Nigeria since 2002.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“That the Boko Haram was created to frustrate Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and that his administration was sponsoring Boko Haram, both impressions are wrong. Boko Haram came to the Nigerian scene way back in 2002, this was three years after President Obasanjo was sworn in 1999.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />That was the time Boko Haram started. The federal government has nothing to do with Boko Haram and no government will encourage insurgency against itself. Anyone who is saying that Boko Haram is created to destabilize Jonathan or is being sponsored by Jonathan is erroneous and wrong,” said Yakassai.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On Sambo’s endorsement as running mate, he said, “We, the North, are so grateful that he decided to retain Architect Namadi Sambo as his running mate. In the last five years, we have not heard of any rancour or disagreement between the President and his Vice. I hope that the President will ensure that he executes the recommendations of the National Conference especially the rotation of power so that each geo-political zone will have the opportunity of producing the president of this country.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Chairman of the occasion and Second Republic Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the federation, Richard Akinjide (SAN) expressed optimism that President Goodluck Jonathan will emerge victorious in the 2015 presidential election.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We are assembled here today to launch President Goodluck Jonathan, who is definitely going to be the next president of Nigeria. I have toured the whole country, after a fair assessment,I can boldly say that our candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan will be the next president of the country. I am going to make a prediction and that prediction is definitely going to come to pass. That prediction is we will win.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the PDP, Chief Olabode George while speaking on the need for Nigerians to vote for Jonathan’s second terms, said,”this man had the nerves that there was need for us to discuss the Nigerian project, he was not afraid to to allow us to discuss the Nigerian project and proferring solutions to them. If for any reason, he deserves our vote.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“He has also promised to execute the recommendations of the conference. After she thought she had beaten it, the cancer returned a second time and the only option was to remove her thigh.</p><br /><p>However specialists asked if she was willing to try a rare procedure called a rotationplasty, which involves reattaching the foot and knee joint facing the other way.</p><br /><p>“They basically offered the option you know where they would eliminate the thigh and take the bottom of my leg and replace it with the top but they would have to turn it 180 degrees, the reason being so my ankle joint would act like my knee joint,” she said.</p><br /></div>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/YeOXXs" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://ift.tt/YeOXXs" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Bodies remain littered on the streets of a northern Nigerian town two days after it was seized by militant Islamists, a lawmaker has told the BBC.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Boko Haram fighters were patrolling the streets of Bama, preventing people from burying the dead, Ahmed Zanna said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />On Wednesday, the state government denied the town had fallen.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Officials said about 26,000 people had been displaced by fighting in Bama, a key town in the battle for control of Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno state.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Earlier this week, the Nigeria Security Network (NSN) think-tank said the group had made “lightning territorial gains” in recent months, raising fears that the country could disintegrate like Syria and Iraq, where the Islamic State (IS) rebel group has declared a caliphate.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Boko Haram has also said it has set up a caliphate in the areas it controls – it is not clear if the two groups are allied.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mr. Zanna, a senator in Borno, said the humanitarian situation in Bama was “terrible” and there had been a “lot of killings” in the town.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“So many bodies litter the streets, and people are not allowed to even go and bury the dead ones. The facilities are not there, President Jonathan inherited several problems in the infrastructure for electricity delivery in Nigeria. And because of these problems, it is not easy to achieve perfection overnight.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“But one significant thing is that President Jonathan came when Nigeria was barely generating 2,000 megawatts. Today we are generating 4,500 megawatts. I believe before he finishes his first tenure we will be generating over 5,000 megawatts.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Where else do you think this can happen that a man will inherit something, double the capacity in one tenure? So we should be very thankful for what is happening so far.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“And I can assure you that the trend you are seeing is because we are having synergy with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and gas is now gradually coming in and as more gas comes in there will be more generation. Grave Violations against Children in Northeastern Nigeria,” detailed grave violations by some parties to the conflict since December 2012 and provided recommendations on how to better protect children.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />One of Watchlist’s researchers, Janine Morna, said, “While the abduction of over 200 girls in Chibok, Borno State, has shed some light on how children are affected by the conflict in the North-East, most abuses are still poorly documented, understood, and addressed by key actors. The school is a makeshift building with three class rooms and chalk boards in each class. It is run by its young principal, Mr. Ahmadu Ezekiel who kindly welcomed us to sensitize, educate, inspire as well as to have fun with the children.<img alt="DSC02559" class="aligncenter wp-image-20232 size-large" data-recalc-dims="1" src="http://ift.tt/1j37FEN"/> </p><br /><p>The event theme was: “The Beauty of a Secure Education”</p><br /><p>Objectives of the Event:</p><br /><ol><br /><li>To encourage and motivate the children to keep seeking education despite the security challenges in Northern Nigeria.</li><br /><li>To find out first hand from the children and teachers why an estimate of 50 percent of the children in the community are not in school.</li><br /><li>To teach the children on the need to be security conscious.</li><br /><li>To inspire the population of children not in school on the need to seek education.</li><br /><li>To give them an opportunity to commemorate, celebrate and have fun as other privileged children do.</li><br /></ol><br /><p>At first most of the children couldn’t respond to the questions we asked them, even the ones about themselves because expression was an issue. When asked why his sibling didn’t come to school, a boy replied in Hausa language. For others it was timidity. After being pressured to tell us why they came to school, a boy offered to whisper <em>“Because money dey inside.”</em> None was ready to share who they wanted to be in future and when one finally said he wanted to be a doctor the rest followed suit. But with our encouragement they started speaking up. A girl wanted to be a teacher, another girl a lawyer and a boy said to the amusement of all that he wanted to be a politician. We encouraged them to work hard at school and talked to them about security issues.</p><br /><p><img alt="DSC02594" class="aligncenter wp-image-20233 size-large" data-recalc-dims="1" src="http://ift.tt/1j37FEP"/>We used an origami game to inspire creativity in them by enhancing their recognition of patterns and inspiring an appreciation of steps and stages involved in achieving a goal. After a brief lecture on shapes (as most had difficulty differentiating shapes) we divided the class into eight groups. Three groups came out with beautiful results, neat rectangular boxes of yellow cardboard paper. Inscribed on each cardboard box was the name and future ambition of one of the selected leader. Each completed box revealed its text after shading to their delight, with colored pencils we provided. We told them to ask their parents, guardians and teachers what it would take to become what they want to be, write it down and keep in their boxes.</p><br /><p>We distributed stationeries as gift items to all the students and guided the students to sign their support of the “We want to learn in #SAFESCHOOLS” using poster-color and their handprints. At this time other children who didn’t go to school had gathered around, eager to join in, to know what was happening. Some were just returning from the farm. We had exciting shots and there was a precious moment when one of the students was handed the digital camera to give us a snap shot. She fidgeted with the button for a while and suddenly, to her surprise and ultimate amusement, the light flashed and the image of us appeared on the small screen in her hands. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p><img alt="jonathan_2015_court2" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-163448" height="450" src="http://ift.tt/1fD6bON" width="450"/>The Federal High Court in Kaduna on Monday struck out a suit challenging the eligibility of President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2015 general election.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The suit, instituted by Shuaibu Lili and one other, had sought a declaration barring the president from contesting the 2015 presidential election.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Counsel to the plaintiffs, Mohammed Ibrahim, had argued that since Mr. Jonathan had been sworn twice into office as president, he has no constitutional right to contest for the post again.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>He cited Sections 145, 142 and 146 of the Constitution which limits the tenure of the president and governors to a maximum of eight years.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The plaintiffs had also sought for an order to restrain the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined as defendant, from fielding Mr. Jonathan as its presidential candidate in 2015.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>In her ruling Justice Evlyn Enya-Dike, said the plaintiffs had failed to convince the court in all the prayers they sought, and struck out the case.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>She said that Mr. Jonathan was yet to obtain or declared formally his intention to contest, adding that the suit was “at best hypothetical, preemptive, speculative and mere conjunctures”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Ms. Enya-Dike also said that Section 308 of the Constitution insulated the President from civil and criminal actions until he vacates office, adding that the plaintiffs also lacked locus-standi to institute the case.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The plaintiffs”, she said, “had failed to show that they would suffer any special damage more than any member of the public if the president contests in 2015”.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The judge, however, did not make any declaration on whether the suit was an abuse of court process. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p><img alt="SONY DSC" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-185805" height="457" src="http://ift.tt/1ecszSS" width="649"/>President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly queried Minister of the Interior, Comrade Abba Moro and Comptroller General of Immigrations, David Parradang, over the deaths of 19 job-seekers, who lost their lives during the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment exercise weekend.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>During the recruitment test in various centres across the country on Saturday, there was a stampede resulting from poor crowd management, which led to the deaths of eight applicants in Abuja, five in Port Harcourt, three in Minna and Benin City respectively. Several others were also injured in the ensuing commotion.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The tragic incidence has since being condemned by well-meaning Nigerians, who have called for the heads of Moro and Parradang, even as they demanded an investigation into the remote and immediate cause of the deaths of the applicants.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The duo were in the Presidential Villa for over two hours Monday, where they first met with the president’s Chief of Staff, Gen. Jones Arogbofa (rtd), before they were led into Mr. Jonathan’s office.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>At the end of the meeting around 2:24 P.M. the minister and Comptroller General refused to speak with State House correspondents on what transpired.</p><br /><br/><br />="left"><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/> </div><br /></div>

He woke to the bright Friday, Valentine day morning, strong and smart to see Bolanle his heartthrob for a pre-planned early day Valentine date. Unknown to him, Bolanle his girl who also live around Wilmar Crescent in Olodi Apapa, Lagos, was double dating. Eric according one of his friends borrowed money to buy Valentine gift to his girlfriend.<br/><br /><p>Eric went to pick Bolanle around 10am for a breakfast in a near by Buka (Restaurant) and later they proceeded to their love nest. On embarking near Godday Cinema, Bolanle’s second and richer boyfriend emerges with 3 other guys and accosted them. They interrogated Eric and he innocently confessed that Bolanle is his love which enraged Bolanle’s second boyfriend. He ordered his ‘guy’ to teach Eric a lesson of his life.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The picture is what remained of the lover boy, Eric, when he woke up in a Hospital near Tin can, Apapa, after he was thoroughly panel-beaten.
