Brown said that a 19-year-old man of Jackson Heights, has been charged with assaulting, robbing and raping a female livery cab driver on Saturday.</p><br /><p>“The allegations in this case chronicle a<br/><br />frightening ordeal of mental, physical and sexual violence. Hopefully, the young woman who was brutally victimized, will rest easier in knowing<br/><br />that her alleged rapist has been brought to justice and will be vigorously prosecuted.</p><br /><p>However, even after the physical abuse has stopped, the psychological trauma caused by sexual assault can be severe and long lasting,” Brown said.</p><br /><p>Luis Barrija, 19, of 94 Street, was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree robbery and second-degree assault. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.</p><br /><p>According to the police investigation, the 32-year- old female cab driver had pulled up in front of 26-24 93 Street in Queens sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, when her passenger,<br/><br />Barrija, choked her and demanded her money.</p><br /><p>He stated: “I am in a gang that robs and rapes people. I am the leader.” The victim gave Barrija approximately $100 in cash. He then tried to pull her into the backseat of the cab while continuing to threaten her life.</p><br /><p>Barrija choked her with one hand, and told her that he had a knife and would kill her if she did not comply with his sexual demands.</p><br /><p>The suspect raped the woman before fleeing from the scene.</p><br /><p>The victim suffered bruising and redness on her neck, chest and wrists due to the force used by Barrija.</p><br /></div>

About 30 persons lost their lives to the female suicide bombers who were believed to be less than 20 years old.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A security source told our correspondent that the plan of the insurgents was to continue using the female suicide bombers to unleash terror on people of the state. The source added that when interrogated, the suspect disclosed that he brought the bombers from Sambisa forest in Borno State.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“He is still being held and interrogated by the JTF and he is cooperating with the force by divulging vital information about their new strategy of using teenage girls for suicide bombings. I don’t know the exact number of the girls because one of my colleagues who participated in the operation said 13 while the other one said 16,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A top security source confirmed the arrest but added, “You know we have carried out many recent successful operations recent. I will not like to say much on this latest operation.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Spokesperson of the JTF in Kano, Captain Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed an operation in Dala local government area.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There was an operation in Dala where one Ibrahim Ibrahim was arrested alongside some persons. The president who expressed his disappointment with the way and manner Sawyer brought Ebola to Nigeria assured citizens that government is ready to stop Ebola.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As a government, we promise that we will do everything humanly possible to contain the Ebola virus.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan informed the gathering that the federal government planned to rally the 36 states governors and their Commissioners of Health to rescue the nation from further spread of the disease.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“On Wednesday, I will meet with governor of the states, and they must come with their commissioners of Health along. We must make sure that every state is prepared, where they lack, the federal government will support them,”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The president said that his discussion with the head of WHO has given him more information about the virus assured the gathering that the virus will be stopped from causing more harm.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“My conversation with the WHO DG, Dr Margaret Chan was revealing, she said 60 per cent of the transmission was spread during burials. That is why in my announcement, I’ve been saying that people should be careful about burials.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Some people like burial ceremonies. This is not the time for burial ceremony, somebody is dead, he is dead, leave him there. As at today, 177 primary and secondary contacts of the index case have been placed under surveillance or isolation. 9 developed EVD, bringing the total number of cases in Nigeria to 10. Of these 10, 2 have died (the Liberian American and the Nigerian nurse) while 8 are alive and currently on treatment.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The minister along Minister of Environment, Mrs Laurentia Mallam, Interior Minister, Abba Moro, Special Duties Minister, Tanimu Turaki and Minister of Information, Labaran Maku stated that “Nigeria wishes to emphasize that, it essentially remained an Ebola Virus free country until this incidence of importation and unfortunate contamination. We will continue to work with all stakeholders, local and international partners to maximize on this and intensify efforts to contain and treat the existing cases.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Citing efforts to stop the spread of the virus in the West African sub-region, Chukwu said government role at the recent meeting in Accra, Ghana projected Nigeria’s “leading, pioneering and compassionate role during the summit with the first and only donation of 3.5Million USD humanitarian and capacity building aid to the three affected countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the West African Health Organization (WAHO), and the ECOWAS Ebola Fund.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Chukwu said the “Liberian Government has expressed its deepest sympathies and regrets that Mr. Sawyer had even embarked on this tragic journey, which has brought needless sufferings, death and has placed an unnecessary stress on our health system. In the same spirit, we share in solidarity, the grief of the governments and people of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone as we confront this challenge together.”<br/><br /><br/><br />The minister further urged Nigerians not to see Liberia and her citizens in bad light considering the harmonious relationship the two countries have had over the years.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The government of Nigeria, shall continue to discharge its responsibilities within the sub region as we collectively confront and stop this outbreak of Ebola.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He however, told journalists that aside from working with the US government on how to assist, government was also looking at other options in terms of drugs that could revive Ebola patients.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said Nigeria’s quest to get hold of drugs that will bring relief to Ebola patients is “still work-in-progress” adding that, healthcare workers entrusted with providing care to patients have been given Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as measure to prevent them from contracting the virus.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Chukwu who stated that the Ebola virus still remained restricted to Lagos State also reiterated the resolve of the federal government to find a solution to the lingering crisis between it and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), especially the need to call off the nationwide strike.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The minister was more optimistic that the crisis will be settled soon, but maintained that “the NMA strike is not affecting the treatment of Ebola patients.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>

I share the deep pain and anxiety of their parents and guardians.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I assure them once again that government will continue to do everything possible to bring our daughters home.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I have also authorised the security forces to use any means necessary under the law to ensure that this is done.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I assure you that Nigeria will be safe again, and that these thugs will be driven away.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“It will not happen overnight, but we will spare no effort to achieve this goal.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan, however, said that government would be open to dialogue and reconciliation with any one or group willing to genuinely renounce terror.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“For our citizens who have joined hands with Al Qaeda and international terrorists in the misguided belief that violence can possibly solve their problems, our doors remain open to them for dialogue and reconciliation, if they renounce terrorism and embrace peace.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“My government, while pursuing security measures, will explore all options, including readiness to accept unconditional renunciation of violence by insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Government will also ensure their de-radicalization, rehabilitation and re-integration into the broader society.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The president underscored the need for all Nigerians to remain united to win the war against terrorism.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Christians, Muslims, farmers, fishermen, herdsmen, teachers, lawyers, clergy or clerics, the rich, the poor and Nigerians from all sections of the country must work together.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The war against terror may be difficult, but the days of peace will come again. Terror is evil; nowhere in history has evil endured forever.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The menace of Boko Haram will surely come to an end. I believe that because of your prayers, your courage, hardwork, faith and sacrifice, we will ultimately prevail over the terrorists and all other evil forces.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The president commended the Armed Forces for the supreme price they had paid in confronting insecurity and urged Nigerians to always appreciate them rather than castigate them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We must show confidence in their ability. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><p><img alt="ndleas" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-197261" height="480" src="http://ift.tt/1paj1yX" width="640"/>The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has discovered 2.460kg of cocaine hidden inside female shoes and voltage regulators, popularly called ‘stabilizers’, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The seizures were made in a consignment of female shoes from Brazil aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight and a shipment of voltage regulators meant for export to Gabon on a DHL cargo flight.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Lagos Airport Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Hamza Umar, explained that the shipment of shoes was abandoned.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“We found an abandoned luggage containing ladies shoes that originated from Brazil. During examination, 1.860kg of cocaine was found inside the shoe soles. Our men at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) section of the airport also detected 600 grammes of cocaine hidden in a voltage regulator. A freight forwarder had been arrested in connection with the cocaine shipment to Gabon”, Hamza stated.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The suspect, Nyeaka Chidiebere Anslem, 37, who claims to hail from Imo State, said in his statement that the consignment was given to him by a client.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“I am a freight forwarder with over five years working experience. A client gave me a bag containing three voltage regulators and hair attachment to send to Gabon.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The NDLEA at SAHCOL while searching the luggage dismantled the voltage regulators and found five parcels of substance that tested positive for cocaine in one of the regulators”, Nyeaka said.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The suspect is married with five children.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>The Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, said the agency will continue to keep an eagle-eye over the Nigeria-Brazil route while other African routes are being re-classified in line with current risk levels.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“The NDLEA will continue to keep a close watch over Nigeria-Brazil route because of the high number of arrests and seizures made on the route.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>“Recent drug seizures on some African routes have equally placed them on a high risk platform. We are doing the right things. The blister today is not a problem any more for normal life. It’s not painful.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The problem is to play tennis. The only problem is the position of the blister, the place.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Federer, 32, had captured the headlines throughout the tournament with his eye-catching form, built around some excellent serving, but he was constantly under pressure against Nadal.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Spaniard missed two backhands on break points in game seven as both men struggled off that wing, and another went begging in game nine, but he dominated the tie-break.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Federer made a costly error with a volley into the net and, despite cutting a 5-1 deficit to 5-4, could not prevent Nadal closing it out.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Nadal ripped through the opening game of the second set with some huge forehands, followed by an unexpected double-handed backhand drop shot, but then took a medical timeout for attention to his palm.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“We made the tape a little bit smaller,” Nadal explained afterwards. “That helped me.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I don’t know how many times I can change the tape during the match, because to change the tape I need the trainer.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“If that happens again, I don’t know how the rules are, but it’s a little bit more risky.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It did not prove to be a helping hand for Federer, in fact quite the opposite as Nadal came storming back.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Only some big serving saw Federer save three more break points at 2-2, but he was finally undone two games later when a breathtaking angled backhand and a heavy forehand into the corner put Nadal 4-2 in front, and on his way to a two-set lead.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />For all the positive influence of new coach Stefan Edberg over the past fortnight, when Federer dumped a backhand volley into the net to drop serve early in the third, the outcome of the match had a very familiar feel.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />There was a flash of hope for the thousands of Federer fans on Rod Laver Arena when their man finally broke to hit straight back, and some serve-volleying helped him to a 3-2 lead, but Nadal was soon on the hunt again.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The relentless pressure told as Federer’s forehand flew long to give up his serve at 3-3, and Nadal swept to victory with his fourth break of the day thanks to a succession of brilliant forehands.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It gave him a 23rd win over Federer, who still has not beaten Nadal at a Grand Slam since the 2007 Wimbledon final, and never away from the All England Club.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“I think Rafa did a good job of keeping the pressure on me,” said Federer. “I might have gotten a little tired, maybe in the third set, but overall I’m very happy.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Rafa played well and he played solid, so I don’t have crazy regrets tonight other than maybe not having created more opportunities for myself. Mohammed Dole, said the troops, working on information, responded timely, killing 38 of the insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement further revealed that one soldier was killed while two others sustained injuries.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement read, “During their regular robust patrols of their Area of Responsibility (AOR), the troops of 195 Battalion in Damboa successfully repelled planned Boko Haram Terrorists’ attack on residents and military camp. In the early hours (0100 hours) of Thursday, 9 January 2014, the insurgents attempted to launch an attack on Damboa to cause havoc and mayhem, but due to the timely information and gallantry displayed by the troops, the attack was repelled and inflicted heavy casualty on the terrorists.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement also revealed that “some of the insurgents fled with various degrees of injuries.”<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Three (3) vehicles, one Sienna LE, (AE 844 DKW) laden with cylinders and Improvised Explosive Devices, one 911 truck (SA 575 BBU) loaded with 200 bags of food stuff and one Mitsubishi canter truck (XD 441 GG) were recovered,” the statement added.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It also disclosed that “large cache of assorted arms of high caliber weapons and ammunition comprising of General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), Light Machine Guns (LMG) and two AK 47 rifles were seized”.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The statement said a combined ground troops and Nigerian Air Force aircraft were tactically pursuing the fleeing terrorists in the general area of Damboa and surrounding villages.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Command appealed to the public to avail the troops with useful information to track the fleeing insurgents.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />via nigerianeye</div><br /></div>
