He said he explained that he never would have ordered such expensive wine, and repeated that when he asked about the price, the waitress said “thirty-seven fifty,” not “three-thousand, seven-hundred-and-fifty.”</p><br /><p>The waitress disagreed, and a manager was called over. He offered to give separate bills, so the dinner bill, which wasn’t being disputed, could be paid.</p><br /><p>Next, Lentini said he was told the best price the restaurant could offer was $2,200.</p><br /><p>Lentini said he couldn’t afford that, but to be able to leave, he and two other diners agreed to split the $2,200 bill.</p><br /></div>

The scale of capital flight lost to medical tourism is enormous, not justifiable, and needs to be speedily addressed for the survival and development of our local health practitioners and industry,” he said at a presidential summit on Universal Health Coverage in Abuja.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President, who was represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, said that whereas the country had made progress but that the nation was not where it ought to be in health care coverage.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said while the country’s health insurance programme had been mostly successful with federal employees and private health insurance for the organised private sector, it was unacceptable that there were still several pilot schemes that had yet to cumulatively result in adequate level of cover for the people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the country needed to keep abreast of other countries in its development bracket in social health insurance.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />While saying that health insurance must become a part of the social culture, the President said Nigerians needed to be encouraged to imbibe the benefits of affordable and regular contributions to achieving guaranteed and sustainable long term health services.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said the theme of the summit, “Universal Health Coverage: The Vehicle for Sustainable Growth and Development” captured the emphasis which his administration’s transformation agenda placed on health care for all in Nigeria.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The President said the government was determined to elevate UHC to a national movement with substantial participation by local and international stakeholders, supported by the government and the private sector at all levels.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Jonathan said, “Government is not unaware of the numerous challenges limiting the attainment of Universal Health Coverage in our country, and the importance of political commitment in surmounting these challenges.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“The World Bank’s case study of 11 countries that have made significant progress in UHC, affirmed that political leadership and commitment is the key driving force for achieving UHC.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“Our gathering here is to reaffirm our commitment as political leaders both at federal and state levels that we will do all within our powers to provide Universal Health Coverage for our people.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“As a member of the United Nations, Nigeria subscribes to the 68th General Assembly resolution calling on member-nations to accelerate efforts toward achieving Universal Health Coverage. The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Festus Keyamo, assured the court that he would call all his witnesses and complete the prosecution’s case within the four days.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />In the amended charges, Fani-Kayode was accused of accepting various sums of money totalling N100 million between July 7, 2006 and May 11, 2007 without passing through a financial institution.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The transaction was said to have violated the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act which sets the limit of cash transaction at N500,000.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The accused was said to be, within the period when the offences were allegedly committed, serving as the Minister of Culture and Tourism and afterwards the Minister of Aviation.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He was accused of violating the law by further depositing the cash payments in his investment account with the First Inland Bank, Plc, Apapa Branch (now First City Monument Bank Plc) for 90 days.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Part of the money was also said to have been deposited in the account of his wife, Regina, and daughter, Remilekun. The accounts were said to be with the same branch of First Inland Bank Plc (now FCMB).<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The EFCC named various individuals, including the accused person’s wife and daughter, his “close associate”, Mark Ndifreke and Ojo Agbor as those who executed the transaction on behalf of Fani-Kayode.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Others who allegedly carried out the transaction on behalf of the accused were members of his administrative staff, Florence Salau, Daniel Atogo and Supo Agbaje.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />All the named individuals were said to be at large.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The offences were said to have contravened Section 15(1)(d) and punishable under section 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He was first arraigned before Justice Ramat Mohammed on December 23, 2008. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1kfWw8z" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="181" src="http://ift.tt/1kfWw8z" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />A 100-level student in the Department of Transport Management at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Mba Ikechukwu, has been killed by cultists.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />His body was mutilated.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />It was learnt that the cultists stormed Mba’s hostel on Tuesday evening and shot into the air many times.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Sources said they went into Mba’s room, where they shot him and removed his arms.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Mba’s body was deposited in the mortuary by the police.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The university’s management met with security agencies on Wednesday on how to apprehend Mba’s killers and tighten security in hostels.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />LAUTECH is an off-campus institution.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Security has been beefed up in hostels.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Student held a peaceful rally on campus to mourn Mba and sensitise one another on the ills of cultism.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Academic activities are going on smoothly at the institution.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Tunde Olabiyisi, debunked rumours that the institution had been closed for two days (yesterday and today) to douse tension.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said: “You can see for yourself that the campus is peaceful and students are receiving lectures. There is no disruption whatsoever. Everywhere is peaceful. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><div xmlns='http://ift.tt/lH0Osb'><br /><div class='separator' style='clear: both; text-align: center;'><a href="http://ift.tt/1kfWvl5" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="http://ift.tt/1kfWvl5" width="400"/> </a> </div><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), on Friday released results of the Feb. 25 elections into local government councils with the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), winning 14 of the chairmanship positions declared.<br/><br /><br/><br /><a id="more" name="more"> </a><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Fifteen local governments participated in the exercise after two – Jos North and Wase, were excluded over security concerns.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />PLASIEC Chairman, Mr Peter Dalyop, who declared the results in Jos, said that the chairmanship results from Langtang North Local Government were inconclusive.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“There will be a re-run election in Jat Ward in Langtang North on March 3, 2014, to determine the winner of the Chairmanship seat,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />He said that the local government had 18 wards, but that results from only 17 wards were collated, which made it impossible for PLASIEC to accept them.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />“After the conduct of the re-run, the winner will receive the certificate of return along with the others,” he said.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Details of the results indicated that the PDP won in Barkin-Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Mikang, Jos South, Riyom, Pankshin and Kanke.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Others local governments included Jos East, Kanam, Langtang South, Quan-Pan, Riyom and Shendam.<br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br /><br/><br />Dalyop, however, said that names of victorious councillors would soon be announced after the collation had been concluded. I personally believe Nigerian government gave them (Chinese, lebanese and some other foreigners) an upper hand and something must be done to curtail this madness.<br/><br /><p>According to Punch report, The State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Ogun State, has detained two Chinese nationals, Mike Jackson and Tony Jackson, for allegedly brutalising Adeleke Owolabi, an employee of their company, Jivan Plastic Company.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that Owolabi, a graduate of Mass Communications from Olabisi Onabanjo University, was beaten black and blue by the suspects on his first day at work after a disagreement with Mike.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Owolabi had said the police refused to arrest the Chinese men due to their status as foreigners.<br/><br /><br/><br />However, it was learnt that after PUNCH Metro’s publication, the police immediately stormed the PVC manufacturing company in Sagamu and whisked the suspects away. It was learnt that the suspects apologised to Owolabi, who was also at the SCID to write a statement.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Owolabi said, “Yes, the Chinese men have been detained at the SCID and I am satisfied with the action of the police so far. I am happy that the media are helping to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet. “I am not after money but I just don’t want a situation whereby Nigerians are treated badly by foreigners in their own land.”<br/><br /><br/><br />It was learnt that the suspects would remain in police custody until the completion of investigation.</p><br /><br/><br /><p>Owolabi had said, “I was bringing out PVC materials out of a bag and Mike said I was not handling the materials properly.
