Uganda Coach Tells Girls Abortion Makes Them Run Faster

A Ugandan coach has been arrested over charges of rape by the police.

The man is accused of allegedly raping three teenage female national runners.

Uganda is aiming to dislodge traditional regional rivals Kenya and Ethiopia in long distance running.

The accusation was looked into by the police after Ugandan star and Commonwealth gold medallist Moses Kipsiro made public complaints from his female teammates against Peter Wemali, who until recently was the head coach of a police camp in eastern Uganda.

Wemail was arrested over the alleged rape and defilement of three female runners aged 15, 16 and 17 between 2013 and 2014, according to the Daily Monitor newspaper reported.

The local police commander, James Ruhweza from Uganda’s eastern Sipi district said that Wemail was a prime suspect in the ongoing case.

Wemali was last year accused of sexualy harrasing a minor in an athletics training camp.

Wemali was said to have advised them to get pregnant and then abort so they could run better.

Wemali was also then accused of witchcraft but was cleared of all wrongdoing.

The Police have also revealed that they are searching for a young girl who was also allegedly raped by Wemali and was forced to have an abortion.

The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) have been accused by some critics of always trying to cover the scandal.
