Read How Jonathan’s Kinsmen React To His Failure In Presidential Election

Following the announcement of the election results, the kinsmen of Goodluck Jonathan commended him for conducting a credible and acceptable presidential poll.

Endurance Osain, a relative of the president, said on April 1 that the peaceful conduct of the election on Saturday was praiseworthy.

Premium Times reports, that Osain was speaking on behalf of all president’s kinsmen in Otuoke. He noted in his statement that the election was credible despite the minor hitches associated with card readers used for the exercise. He also commended Jonathan for conducting an internationally acceptable free and fair poll by supporting the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Osain said that the people of Otuoke and Ogbia kingdom are happy with the way Jonathan conducted the election, and ready to welcome him home despite his loss to Muhammadu Buhari.

He also called on the people of Bayelsa not to see the results of the election as a failure adding that Jonathan acted as a true democrat that Nigerians would remember for a long time.

However, some ex-militants currently enjoying the amnesty programme slated to lapse in 2015 described Jonathan’s loss as a major setback to the region. They noted that president’s re-election would have ensured the sustenance of the amnesty programme.

“Our calculations was that a second term for Jonathan would have ensured that the amnesty is sustained but the results we saw dashed that hope, we did not expect him to loose.

“We need to do a reassessment of the options open to us and take a stand,” said Joe Tabiri, an ex-militant leader.

Meanwile, the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has assured Goodluck Jonathan that he has nothing to fear. In his acceptance speech after being declared the winner of the presidential election and presented with the certificate of return, he extended “a hand of friendship and conciliation to President Jonathan and his team.”
