Some armed robbers operating with a tricycle in Warri on Friday abandoned their assault rifle and bullets as youths and police in the area closed in on them.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu said that the Divisional Police Officer, ‘B’ Division Warri, Mr. Imade Graham, while in his office heard gunshots around Okumagba Avenue, Warri.
“Consequently, he quickly mobilised patrol teams to the scene. The patrol team, assisted by some youths in the area chased the hoodlums into Okere-Urhobo Community.
“During the pursuit and exchange of fire, the hoodlums were forced by the superior fire power of the Police to abandon their operational weapons and escaped with bullet wounds.
“The weapons which were promptly recovered include one Assault rifle with Breech No. 070110089 and three Assault rifle Magazines with thirteen rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the hoodlums stormed the area on a tricycle and attempted to rob someone they trailed from a bank,” she said.
